Kyle Kinane is one of the first stand-ups I really loved, I remember I would burn his albums on CDs for my first car!! (i'm 35 now, so that was some 15 years ago, AND I live in Eastern Europe, so that really means something, haha) He was one of the first stand-ups where I actually realized this is an "art-form" and there's technicalities and so much levels to it, and even though I am pretty deep into it now and love so many more stand-ups, his stuff is still so much stronger that most other ones (OTHER THAN Normand and Sam, ofc) Love you, Kyle! Thanks Mark and Sam for having him on!
October of 2001 in Chicago, I started taking improv classes and also scouting out open mics. At the Cubby Bear open mic, I bellied up to the bar next to Kyle as he seemed chill and my speed. He gave me the low down and answered all my questions about the scene. He was the funniest of all that went up that night. The next week I went up for the first time and bombed hard. I returned to my seat trembling and sweaty. His feedback in the kindest way possible was "I think you went a little too much with the improv sketch thing". He was right. I never tried standup again. Kyle witnessed and mentored my entire lifetime stand-up career of 2 minutes.

Kyle's an all-time favorite of mine. I never miss him at Wiseguys in SLC, where Shocks & Struts was filmed. His joke structures and storytelling vocabulary always crack me up. Trampoline in a Ditch is gem as well. Whiskey Icarus. His This Can't be Happening stuff . . . All of it. This ep was a damn delight.

RE: repeating jokes/bits (~ 20:00 ) In about 1999, I saw Ron White at a 300 seat club. The guy was visibly hammered - like, hardly able to stand, clearly not "this-is-my-stage-persona". He was actually doing ok for a bit genuinely funny - until he began repeating the bits. The second time he did one particular joke, I thought, "That's a weird and frankly inelegant callback". The third time, I thought, "Ohhh, he's really THAT drunk". The fourth time, he lost his place mid way through the setup, dropped his drink, stumbled into the ubiquitous brick wall which all clubs have, and slurred the punchline of a different joke he had already told. Not long after, the Blue Collar tour blew up.
@@dinibo That's an odd attitude, since Rogan is the most influential person in stand-up comedy today. I've noticed that the people (especially comedians) who profess dislike for Rogan tend to be insufferable shitheads, but most rules have exceptions...
@@cantilever I understand Rogan is a very powerful man but my impression of Kyle is that he isn't a man who is taken in by a cult of personality. He obviously has different political and ethical views than the Rogan Stans. I like Rogan, there is a place for people like him, but not every comedian has to kiss his ring to be successful and thank God for that.
