  • With fewer than 100 individuals left on earth, the Sumatran rhino is teetering on the brink of extinction. But a newly signed agreement could provide light at the end of the tunnel. Our crews head into the humid rainforests of Indonesia's Way Kambas National Park to meet a team of hardworking conservationists tasked with saving the critically endangered species, and to find out firsthand whether the new declaration can bring this iconic animal back from the brink.

They should focus on protecting biotops so they have somewhere to put the rhinos.

Do they just kill them for the meat, or is there something valuable about them?

Hi there, much like other species of rhino, they are poached for their horn which is used in traditional medicine.

    • @walksaselk40

mattotd I have a feeling the people doing it do it for a living and its their only income, its the people who buy from them who are the wrong.

The exotic animal hunting started since the European countries invaded the Southeast Asian countries. And they hunted them for fun or just to collect their nose horn.

If i was the president of Sumatra, i will hire more forest rangers and pay them lots of money for each illegal logger or Poacher's head on a plate. Heck i even have the power ordering my forest rangers to capture some for me alive and enjoy myself a little execution shooting gallery for my favorite past time :)

I will disagree with their vet on taking the very, very few that are in zoos and sending them back to Sumatra. I don't know about the other location, but the animals in the Cincinnati Zoo are successfully breeding and raising young. If it ain't broke don't fix it, and there's a very good chance that moving that female out of her accustomed surroundings where she is raising babies will stop her breeding, possibly permanently. He doesn't even know if he can get them to breed at his facility at all; has had no experience with it, no success. That Cincinnati female might be the only breeding female in the world right now, so don't change her circumstances.
