I feel that Arena Football is TOTALLY underrated! I love the game! I wish it would become the standard off-NFL season game. Great video as always Ninh!
***** Hey Nick, welcome back! I agree with you ... Arena Football is better than what most people give it credit for. It's actually pretty fun to watch and it plays a damn-sight quicker than the NFL. I still believe that the NFL comes up with a development league that plays in summer, but Arena Football is a viable substitute.
Thanks for stopping by! :)
+Nick Sharrer Where I live we have a minor league variant called indoor football which is essentially the same game without the rebound nets. They just hang a goal post from the ceiling. There's a team called the Maryland Eagles which play at an ice rink covered with turf in Wheaton, MD. The rebound nets were patented by the Arena Football League. Washington will get an expansion team next year, that will play at the Verizon Center and they just hired their head coach. They used to have a team in the early days of the league called the Commandos.
rockvilleraven Yeah the Washington Valor. They couldve just brought back the old Commandos but im ok with it
It could become a development development league like the nab has the g league
As a huge football fan I can watch any form of it and it's a shame that arena is not more popular it's a very fun exititing game and it's very fan friendly. The league though always have terms doling even one that have been around for a while like the Voodoo.
+bulldogsbob Agreed. It's a pretty cool version of football and I'm so surprised that it's not taken off the way it probably should?
A huge reason is all the terms that have folded even good teams like the sabercats. A cool hung I think you should mention is that is a ball goes out of bounds and a fan catches it the fan gets to keep the ball.
Not always. Some teams won't let you keep the ball.
DaTwistedOne1
All the arena games I went to they did.
It's different so it's cool to see different things done and how it's played
I use to play in the Arena Football League and I have to say you did a good job explaining the rules
Thanks again Manny!
Manuel Diaz, Jr. was it fun?I wanna make some kind of football league when I’m older.
What's the pay?
Why you lying
How do you join an arena league?
Not a bad rundown. There was one thing that you did get wrong which I am unsure if someone pointed out (based on the AFL rulebook).
Of the three lineman, one of the tackles is designated a tight end. It is not a specific location so either of the tackles can designate themselves as the tight end for the play by raising his hand prior to the snap of the ball to signal to the referees that he is the tight end and eligible to catch a pass.
In your image, the tight end you referred to is one of the three wide receivers (see my rough outline below).
Of the three wide receivers, one is designated a "man in motion" and is the only player on the offensive team that can make a forward or lateral motion behind the line of scrimmage prior to the snap.
WR T C TE WR
QB WR
FB
I've always prefered the arena rules over the American traditional rules. Sucks that 3 teams left the league this season (vegas and NO folding and Spokane going to the IFL). But we usually end up bouncing back one way or another.
+Beewalkerr Yeah it sucks that the AFL has so little teams these days. It's a shame because it's a great sport to watch. I'd happily own an AFL team! Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
The IFL is still really stable compared to the AFL
Vegas didn't fold, they moved to Cleveland (which is damn near the same thing really)
CONSOLETRUTH2 I was referring to the Vegas Outlaws, which was a different franchise from the Gladiators.
Lies again? Goal Arena Smart Bundesliga
Watching this on the day the AFL died. 11/26/19. It was a fun time while it lasted...
Yes, they have been dying for a while. It had to end sometime.
The Orupturetan dame really ? Rip
@@NinhLyUK There are still other leagues, like the NAL and IFL. They're much more regional, however.
Excellent video. Concise yet well detailed. I watch and understand football, I just wasn't familiar with the specifics of AF. Solid work. 🏈
Thanks man, I appreciate the comment!
I've been to an arena football game and it is awesome!
+Wil the Warrior I bet it is. I would love to go to a game one of these days ... hopefully before all the teams relocate again! :)
I love the Arena Football League. Great video man!
PieEater Thanks man. It's a shame that a lot more people don't know more about the AFL - it's a great sport to watch! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Don’t usually comment. I watched til the end and heard you say it takes a long time to make one of these videos, so I felt I’d give thumbs up and comment to let you know what a good job you’ve done.
Thanks Jose - glad you like this video.
It's a labour of love sometimes, but I'm happy that these things help and entertain people.
Subscribe and check out my channel for more videos like this :)
So much more fun to watch than outdoor football. Shame it isn't as popular.
@Ninh Ly you forgot about a ruge or douse it’s where if you kick a kickoff through the uprights it’s worth 2 points
Have I ever told you how awesome your videos are, keep up the good work
+Newyorkrangersfan0623 LETS GO RANGERS I'll try man, it's getting hard to make videos with my day job, but I'll try. :)
I thought I had arena football down, but I had no idea that drop kicks were worth more!
TheNeers71 Yeah, drop kicks are worth more. I think they tried to encourage kickers to do that more, but it's not happened in years in the AFL. Thanks man, be sure to share this video :)
I could be wrong but I don't think I heard anything about touchbacks which in arena football bring the offense out to the 5 yard line.
I liked this video, ha my High School plays 8 man football, and I was curious as to a few of the rule changes and field schematics.
Awesome! Thanks man!
Didn't know this was a thing but it looks and sounds like a great alternative to the NFL
Yes, it's pretty cool to watch. Shame that the AFL business model is crap and there's only 5 teams left in the league. The end is nigh.
Great vid man, I haven’t seen your channel but make more of these please!
Hey man.
Have you considered making an difference video between men's arena and LFL?
In terms of rules, I men rather then just gender.
Maybe, if I get enough footage. But I think we all know why we watch the LFL! Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Errrr... I also watch because it's football. Not just eye candy. Also maybe the closest we get to competitive and watchable US women's football.
The rules of Flag Football and the rules of Polo? Just some suggestions. Good work on these awesome videos!
Elliott Cox Polo yes, Flag football no - it's not really a professional sport. Thanks for the comments on this video, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Do you think Arena Football could be successful in the UK? It wouldn’t be competing with Football (Soccer) and Rugby as an outdoor sport and could potentially be more action-packed than the British Basketball League which hasn’t really taken off. I think there definitely is an audience for American Football in the UK, I just think it’s about delivering it in a certain way.
Would love to see that
I've loved watching Arena Football since '01 when I started to get season tickets to the San Jose SaberCats. Loved going to the games every year and actually looked forward to the season. It's a shame San Jose has decided to fold.
+Rob Leano A lot of teams fold in the AFL for some reason. It's a shame because I think it's a great sport! Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
+Ninh Ly San Jose was one of the most successful teams in the league, and won the last Arena Bowl. They folded because the owners didn't like the way the heads of the league were running things. They thought the heads were demanding too much money with little promise of results for the league.
Nice Sir 💖
Thanks Zahoor!
I love this channel❤️❤️
Cool, thanks man.
Be sure to share this video so that other people know about it.
Interesting, so it is basically a NFL version of futsal. How popular is this variation outside of the U.S I wonder?
Not very. The AFL itself is dying a horrible death.
West Texas Desert Hawks 💙❤️🤍
Ayee I can't wait to play it
Thanks for the comments Ahmad, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Awesome video again!
JKABOOM 17 Thanks ... again! As you can tell, I'm starting to run out of legitimate sports to make videos about :)
I'm pretty sure you'll think of new content and I will be here to support you for it :)
JKABOOM 17 I appreciate the support. Thanks ! :)
AFL has some serious potential as I also enjoy its 'flair' but it's too much of a copy&paste of the NFL (e.g. penalties, flags etc) and it needs some drastic rule modifications because at the moment it resembles handball with an endzone.
1. reduce number of downs, e.g. 6 downs on each possession (as in rugby league) or 3 for 10 yds (like the CFL)
2. incomplete passes in to the endzone result in a touchback (originally an NFL rule) because virtually all passes beyond midfield go there, hence my handball comparison
3. reduce points for a TD to 5 and increase the points for the extra-kick to 2 (as in rugby union), this and #1 will also render goal-kicking more attractive and scores wouldn't always be a multiple of 7 plus 6
4. abolition of that rebound nonsense because it's illogical, rather allow for more kicking
+stonerlemonblues Thanks for stopping by man. Some good ideas there, I particularly like the 3 downs rule for arena football. Having said that, it's pretty cool to watch 'as is' at the moment. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Could you do a college football video ?
I've done a video of American Football, which covers College football in general.
ua-cam.com/video/Ddwp1HyEFRE/v-deo.html
Hope that helps?
Good vid but left out what touch backs are and what the penaltys are
+Anthony Strickler Left out a lot of things man, there's no way that I can explain all the rules in less than 6 minutes. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
It would be funny if you made a video on Starcraft, it's considered a sport in S. Korea.
Cian Nelson Dude, that's just a computer game! And whilst South Korea considers it a sport - I don't think the rest of the world shares that opinion.
Ninh Ly Do it on April's Fool Day! Great idea indeed
Valentin Poliakov Ha ... not a bad idea. An April Fools Prank ...!
That is "eSports". I wondn't call it an actual sport.
+Daniel K I play video games a lot but I know there is people who study the games to learn the ins and outs of them and will woop any joe shmoe they play. there is still a skill set needed to compete at that level.
Tell me the rules of Russian hockey(Bandy) ?
Glechik897 Bandy is on my list of videos to make, but it's going to be a while to get to that video because I have a lot more to make before that. Be sure to share this video and subscribe so that you can see all my videos as they come out! :)
Is the ground made of turf or what? I've been trying to decide but can't tell
They lay some kind of artificial turf down over as rink floor, very similar to what they do for indoor lacrosse. Not comfortable to land on apparently.
Yes it’s not comfortable at all! I had two shoulder surgeries from landing on the turf wrong..I can say this out of all of my years playing outdoor ball, playing in the arena league was the most physically demanding jobs. I was a fullback and let me tell you shit got real in them trenches
I miss your videos ninh:(
+CODNOOB223 Yeah sorry I've not made one in a while. Been undergoing two house renovations, a change in career and have just been too busy to make videos. Fortunately, I'm starting up again soon, so keep an eye out for my new videos coming up in the next few weeks :)
Great job.
I love Arena football, it's basically Football but the game is quicker and more frenetic
Yes, I agree. Too bad the AFL is dying a horrible death.
Thank you!
Can you make a video about indoor soccer and roller derby?
+MrE903 Indoor soccer ... probably not. Roller Derby - yes if I get a huge demand for it. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
+Ninh Ly i share and have been subbed for a while, love the videos!
+MrE903 Cool, thanks! Sorry if I've asked before, it's become a tag line for me!
Please do more vids man!
How does out of bounds work
If the ball goes out of bounds or a player is tackled and he makes contact with a wall, it's considered out of bounds and the next down starts.
Go Preds
Too bad they don't exist anymore. Go Soul.
Are there any touch backs on kickoffs or turnovers?
big mac line backer! lol
Nice one! McDonald's should trademark that one. Thanks for the comments, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
+Ninh Ly do u not make vids no more
Demetri Ahmed i think he might have just ran out of sports to explain.
GummyDummy Nope, I just have an extremely demanding day job that eats up most of my time now. I'm looking to change jobs so that I have more time to spend making more vids.
Demetri Ahmed I just have an extremely demanding day job that eats up most of my time now. I'm looking to change jobs so that I have more time to spend making more vids.
What is the surface of the field? It looks a bit like clay
naleboke And what if a kickoff bounces off the rebound board thing? Can the kicking team recover it for a TD? + What are the rules for inbound catches and out of bounds?
naleboke The surface is just indoor turf, it's not clay. And when any kick bounces on the rebound nets, it's live and in theory if they're quick enough, the kick-off team can recover the ball for a touchdown. Out of bounds is the same as normal American football and inbound catches count. Hope that helps? Be sure to share this video and subscribe if you haven't already :)
Thanks so much for the quick response with other youtubers a reply could of never happend! Also, I see mats instead of empty space on the sidelines, if someone catches the ball in mid-air then lands on the mats, without their feet touching the ground, is the catch complete or incomplete?
naleboke So long as the ball is caught legitimately when the receiver is in bounds initially, it doesn't matter if he leaves the area afterwards, this counts as a catch!
Thanks for the comments!
Cool! Thanks!
My ps2 game is same rules
I should hope so, it's the same game.
What will you do when you run out of sports?
Lucas Leturia I'm starting to run out of sports that I want to do already and am looking to go in a new direction for my future videos. I've still got a few sports ones left to do, so it won't change for the next few weeks. Thanks for stopping by!
Ninh Ly LOL There are a lot of sports you can do next!
Daniel K There is, but the key words were "that I want to do". Who knows what the next one might be?
Ninh Ly UA-cam proposed to me as a follow-up to this video an incident involving fan interference in arena football (which apparently is a very common occurence). How about a video outlining how different sports deal with interference from people who are not supposed to be on the playing field? Perhaps start by saying that Australian Rules football is the only sport in which a coach is allowed on the field during play, provided that he stays away from the ball?
Benoit Blanchard Not a bad idea!
I may consider that one certainly, but as stated to my many other UA-camrs: there's a lot of videos I'd like to make first and time is at a premium for me (I work two jobs).
Thanks for your input, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
does tampa have a team for arena football
They used to hold the Tampa Bay Storm at Amalie Arena. They're now defunct.
talk about quiditch!!!
+Jason Marinin Probably not Quidditch man. Maybe if hundreds of you request it? But currently no demand right now. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
why only 3 linemen?
no punting you say?
Yup
RIP AFL
Indeed.
The arena football league filed for bankruptcy a week ago. Truly a sad thing to see go away.
Yes. They've been dying a horrible death for a while now.
Isn't afl Australian football league
It's that too. But in the US - AFL means Arena Football League.
When do seasons start and end?
Start in April and it continues throughout July and then August is the playoffs
Depends on league but my favorite starts late February and goes to early July
The souls are the best team
Hell yeah they are! I watched them win the Cup and I have one of their jerseys in my wardrobe. Awesome stuff!
Ninh Ly I go to every home game and I was at the last championship
Awesome stuff ... shame about the state of the AFL - only 5 teams. Yikes.
So, it's just NFL but indoors??
panoC97 Basically, yes, but some rules (fewer players, no punts, the rebound net) are meant to account for the fact the playing field is significantly smaller than a standard NFL field. It has been pointed out that punting is not allowed, but IMO punting would be pointless since you're almost always within field goal range.
panoC97 You can look at it that way, but as Benoit pointed out: there are significant differences like fewer players, the rebound net and no punting that change the ethos of the game. It's a lot more higher scoring and a lot more wide open action. and different tactics need to be employed in order to win games. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Wouldn't say that since the NFL has indoor fields. I think the name Arena is much better
Arena football League just ceased operations. RIP :(
Really? I didn't know that.
go storm
Go Soul! Thanks for stopping by. Be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
So shorter then a CFL feild
Much shorter.
It’s just a condensed version of football
Pretty much, yes.
I hate arena football I feel claustrophobic when I watch them in that little field
It's not so bad, you get used to it. And they do too. Depends if you like high scoring games or not.
you forgot that if u jump over the wall and catch the ball it is ruled complete
+Jason Samsel There's lots of rules I didn't mention. Can't explain every rule in less than 7 minutes! But yes, I was aware of this rule. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
If in soccer, there is futsal, in gridiron, there is arena football
Yes.
I used to play roblox and saw this small field and no punts and I said “man these people are terrible at copying the NFL”
Hmmm, technically not trying to copy them. But I get what you mean.
I didn’t know what the AFL is
You just earned a sub
Cool, thanks bro.
All indoor football leagues should join as one indoor football league and become a new NFL development league. Plus can you do a video on indoor soccer and paintball please.
Unfortunately, indoor football has different strategies due to the field size and would not be suitable for an NFL D-League. Besides, the NFL is already developing an outdoor D-League as we speak.
Ohhh I hope fresno has a team because I come from Fresno California
I know they've got several cities lined up for it. It's in the early stages.
Edgar Hernandez indoor leagues and especially AFL won't do it
the problem with that is just because you're in the AFL doesn't mean you weren't good enough to play in the NFL some people just fit better in the AFL. Making the AFL a developmental league would be a direct insult to the skill of these athletes. Keep in mind they're professional too.
they need a videogame to challege madden, this is tied as being a good idea
Lisa Pfalzgraf Yes, Arena Football would be cool to put on a video game! Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
they used to have Arena Football and Arena Football : Road To Glory on Playstation 2 but the game never hit the market, not many copies were sold and I don't EA trusted the project. (sorry for my english, I'm french)
Thomas S yeah it did hit the market but i cant seem to find out how many copies ea sold
Blitz
Lisa Pfalzgraf They did make a game. far as i know. They only made one game. I owned the game an loved it. It was for just the regular XBOX
I love going to arena football games because there is just so much energy and unlike the NFL’s massive stadiums in arena football no matter where you sit you can see every thing and you feel so close to the action
Yeah, Arena Football has that advantage. Too bad there's only 5 teams left in the league.
I live in the us and have never heard of this, seems cool
+Riley Johnson It is cool! Shame it doesn't get more coverage in the US and the rest of the world. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Lol me too
+Riley Johnson ESPN and ESPN 2 will broadcast these games in a few months actually.
American Dad has a couple episodes about it
RIP AFL
1986-2019
Indeed.
Ninh Ly what happened?
@@tacoblude8208 They got hella broke
Arena Football is underrated !
Totally! Shame the league only has like, 5 teams now or something.
Ninh Ly Yeah hopefully the AFL can bounce back! Good news is some AFL teams have jumped to the IFL, that's a fun league and they stream games on UA-cam!
I didn't know they streamed on UA-cam, that's awesome.
how many leagues are in the US ? cuz Iheard about the AFL, IFL, NAL and is it this so unpopular ?
There's a few, yeah. But i don't think it's the fact that there's so many different leagues that's the problem.
I dunno why it's unpopular, I think it's a great sport - I'd go and watch it if it was available near me?!
I like arena football. It's action-packed and high scoring. I'm bummed that the Arena Football League folded, and now I don't have an indoor football team to cheer for, but the Indoor Football League, which I just discovered, streams its games on its UA-cam channel, so that's like a treasure chest.
Shame it died.
Arena football got shut down 😭😭😭
They've been dying for years, it was high time that they folded.
i was at that game
Awesome! Dan Raudabaugh is a beast!
Thanks a ton. I'm about to start playing indoor football and this video was immensely useful. Hope to see more in the future
Thanks for the comments Apollo, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Ninh can you make a video explaining if a NFL Development League will ever work?
Ryan H. Excellent idea! There's an ongoing debate as to if/when the NFL will have a whole development league directly beneath the NFL itself. I can certainly jot down the idea, but it might take me a while to make the video - as I've got a load of other videos to make first. Thanks for the cool idea, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
+Ninh Ly thanks
YAY THE SPORT PHILLY IS GOOD IN (well now the eagles are good take that cowboys fans)
Yeah the Soul are awesome. The Eagles are doing great this season.
Yeah, it’s actually happening. Through all the pain and suffering
Still have never been to an Eagles game before smh :(
That makes two of us. I'll see a game at the Linc one day.
This game is so underrated
Agreed! Shame about the AFL's marketing and logistics. Only 5 teams left in the league. Ouch!
RIP to the AFL.
IFL still exists though thankfully but sadly isn't as widely exposed as the AFL was.
So it’s just football but inside a little 50 yard field.
Kind of, yeah.
As of 2019 the AFL (Arena Football League) has folded. I believe the Indoor Football League is the highest level of indoor football in the US and I believe 3rd in football after the NFL & CFL In N. America.
It would be interesting too see the NFL too add the drop kick
They already do, but it's rarely used.
The last successful drop kick was Doug Flutie playing for the Patriots (if I'm not mistaken).
You did miss one rule about Arena Football. A ball carrier is allowed to use the walls/boards along the sidelines as rebound walls as long as they are not pushed into the wall. If they are pushed into the wall, they are considered to be out of bounds and are down, all other instances of hitting the walls do not constitute being out of bounds.
Arena Football is so much fun to watch, though it has fallen off a lot lately. Games are usually very high scoring and because of how fast paced everything is it lends itself well to entertainment.
There's lots of rules I didn't explain bro. It's virtually impossible to explain the rule book in less than 6 minutes.
Having said that, Arena Football is really fun. Too bad they've (as you correctly pointed out) fallen off a cliff as of late.
sucks that the league went from 12 teams to 5, then 4, then 6, and then folded
Yup, that sounds about right.
Arena Football League is shutdown but not the indoor Football League because it still going also they have to canceled their game thanks to the coronavirus.
They should make a Canadian Indoor Football League based on 3 downs and multiple players in motion.
make it a 55 yard field too haha
@@argentinevol6720 Good idea!
@@argentinevol6720 also make it a 10 yrd end zone so 1/2 the CFL's 20yr end zone. or 7.5yrds deap. Actually, I don't think most arenas could fit that size field without getting rid of a lot of seats.
And 9 players instead of 8!
Ninh, have you heard of a sport called Calcio Storico? I stumbled across it the other day and watched this year's championships or whatever and kind of liked it and got the general gist of it. I don't know if you're still adding sports to your list of videos to make but I thought I might just throw this one out there. And also Polo is another sport I'd love to see you do a video on. Keep up the good work.
Henry 52 Yes I have ... it's bat-sh*t crazy! There are no rules - you just have to get the ball to the other side of the field BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY! This includes punching, kicking, grappling etc. Why it's called Calcio Storico (Historic Football) is beyond me, as kicking the ball is rare. Thanks for stopping by, be sure to share this video and subscribe :)
Ninh Ly It's called Calcio Storico because is considered an early form of football, in fact, football is called calcio in Italy due to a resemblance with the calcio fiorentino, the original game
Javier Alvarez I'm fully aware of that, I was disputing why it was called 'football' when it clearly should be called 'beat-the-sh*t-outta-some-dude-ball'. It's slightly more accurate!
I think you could create a great new sport out of the rules of this Historic Sport.
GO BAZOOKA SHARKS!
Go Springfield Stun!
As soon as drop goal was mentioned a sigh of relief by rugby league fan
Try making a video on six man football...
That's probably the most obscure of all the gridiron sports. I think even Flag football is more popular.
You should do a lingerie football video next lol
Ummm ... it's pretty much American Football played indoors with prettier players. Much prettier players.
I live in Arizona and I've gone to a bunch of Rattlers games. It's pretty fun and kinda fast pace which helps the attention span sometimes if games are going slow in the NFL and plus with the Rattlers being pretty good and winning championships so it's really fun haha
Yeah, I believe so. The fast paced nature of the game is cool to watch, for sure.
Arena football was on American dad, so I looked it up and it actually sounded really boring :/ looks like my dreams of seeing a football player be sprayed by an extremely powerful hose in the middle of the game are over :(
Yeah I don't think players getting hosed are part of any football league out there :P
Do the rules of wrestling (Greco Roman or freestyle or both)
I have scripts for those already, but haven't been able to make videos yet. Thanks.
Yes.
At least Philadelphia has the best arena football team
Sad to see the NFL will be going this route too
RIP Arena Football.
Indeed.
The most helpful videos I've ever watched! Thanks a bunch (I've made sure to subscribe, like and share!)
+Alfie Kershaw Thanks Alfie! I'm glad you found these videos helpful!
Who’s here after they announced their return?
Me.
