My younger sister learned to drive before me - I held out until right before I got my first job. I realized that getting my license was the first step in becoming my parents' errand boy... good on Jack!
I didn't learn to drive until I had to go to college, but my grandma didn't want me to leave without my license. I wasn't going to be my parents errand girl. I saw how they treated my brother.
Lmao, ain't that the truth. When they don't wanna go anywhere they have me do it. Even when I don't feel well from my lupus they still send me. Lol. I have to return things for them etc. She'll come all the way home with very little gas and has my dad go get it for her. We are not our parents maids.
One time I was reading a funny text to my dad and it said “lmao”. But I read it like “laugh my ass…..” I had avoided cursing in front of my parents ever since I repeated the f word at the age of 4 in front of them. One tiny screw up and now my reputation as the good one has been abolished. My dad actually just laughed though. 😂
I would understand not riding in NY because we have 24/7 transportation everywhere but not wanting to drive in LA? I guess he’s fine being stuck at home… then again he’s a rich kid so it probably doesn’t matter lol
You must live in upstate new york then, which I was not talking about at all. In NEW YORK CITY, our MTA buses and subway can take us anywhere within the 5 boroughs 24/7. Right now because of covid they’re closed overnight but this was the case before covid and I’m sure it’ll be the case after it.
@@pokerflush1000 I live in NYC and have barely used my driver's license. No need with mta & uber. Plus parking is a nightmare if u don't have a parking space. 😢
Exactly, you can have a car but there really is no point, is just a waste of money plus there’s barely any parking and when you find it, price goes thru the roof. No thank you.
I’m laughing at these comments pointing out Jack cursing. The show is called Black-ISH for a reason!😂And he ain’t completely lost his mind because he said it to the parent who is mixed LOL. And for the record no I have never spoken that way to my mom because I would’ve been dead and gone.⚰️Heck I’ll be 25 in 3 months and I still can’t & wouldn’t talk that way to my mother.
Kids cursing around their parents seems weird to me, I wish I would have even thought of cursing, my mom would have been on me like a hawk. It's a respect thing for me. I try not to curse in front of my parents still and I'm 44
Yeah man, I wish I was the same, unfortunately, with my parents generation, it’s really hard not to swear in front of them when they are just so absolutely frustrating. It’s hard to be perfectly respectful to people who you know are wrong soooo often but don’t listen. Sometimes the younger generations can only cope with so much nonsense.
I'm in the Atlanta area and drive as little as possible. Most stores are near me so I either take an Uber or the bus. It's less stressful and I never have to worry about driving when I'm sleepy or irritated.
That is the problem with car dependent suburbs, you depend so much on cars, you can't even go walking to a store to get a snack, tho in the long term, i think it is kind of expensive to order everything, or even going to work if you are paying an Uber daily
I didn’t learn how to drive till I was in my 20s. I walked or ride the bus to places I go to. But then I had kids so I guess I had to and plus I hate to drive still do to this day
Parents get to curse at kids so y’all please don’t be up in arms about things 😂 Parents want to be able to do anything without consequences cause they “Pay Bills” like ma’am sit down. Respect is earned not given lol
Jacks smart as soon as you learn to do anything you become a chore person for you’re parents i’m to young to drive but as soon as I was old enough to start walking to school and the store by myself guess who gets sent there when we need stuff 😂
As someone who got their license later in life in places like LA where public transit sucks, you need to learn. It's also tiring cuz you become more codependent on your family and friends for giving you rides and you dont really have true freedom cuz you have to arrange your schedule more around other's time.
I was in the same boat as Jack too bout not waiting to drive up to now I still dnt have a license I get nervous but I wasn’t into getting 1 when I was 16 nd still now at 37 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
I understand there are exceptions (like if you have anxiety issues, visual impairment, etc.), but in general, driving is a basic life skill you should have, even if you don't plan to use it often. Like being able to cook yourself a meal, swim, ride a bike, change a tire.
I don’t think learning to drive is something that should be forced onto a person as driving is dangerous. Nervous drivers are some of the most likely to cause accidents. And while it’s a life skill for some, sure, that’s a pretty recent idea and many still don’t know how to drive today. Plus, public transportation makes the need for it obsolete. Personally, i don’t drive. I’m self aware enough to know that with my distracted personality, I’m more likely to cause an accident. My parents attempted to force me but decided I was right after I almost caused four accidents while learning. I would’ve mastered it at one point but those accidents weren’t because I didn’t understand something but because I got distracted by a stray thought. It’s much better like this.
@@Melanie-jy2nw Like I said, there are exceptions. But it's definitely a useful skill to have. And not every place has great mass transit. Where I went to college, for example, buses came by once a day, and not even every day. I couldn't afford to take cabs everywhere, which meant I had to bum rides off of people to get to the bank or supermarket. Having a car would have made all the difference in allowing me to feel independent. Even here in NYC, where mass transit isn't bad, having a car still allows me to cut a two-hour trip down to half an hour. My mother is no longer able to get around on her own, and me being able to drive allows me to take her where she needs to go. Plus, there are lots of jobs that require you to drive--UPS driver, bus driver, delivery person, limo driver, movers, etc. And in case of emergency, it's good to know how to operate a car. I'm not saying driving should be forced on anyone who would be bad at it for whatever reason or who would be scared to do it. But it is an undeniably good skill to have.
