That was just respect, you can see that little grin from roy because he'd be doing the same thing! Probably the 2 best captains of the premier league era
I don't think it is. Arsenal were, at this stage 12 points clear (as you can hear Roy comment) and the win after the tunnel incident in 2005 helped Man Utd overtake Arsenal into second place behind Chelsea. No, this is probably the season prior; 03/04, were Arsenal ran away unbeaten with the league winning by 90 points. This game here was the return match after the "Battle of Old Trafford" with Arsenal being untouchable at this point. So no real competition to ignite any tensions... YET! Also, I'd imagine the officials were warning players not to get into the same fight after suspensions and fines were dished out on both sides. However, United waited until the following season 04/05 (the match dubbed "Pizzagate" or the "Battle of the Buffet") to enact revenge over the Van Nistlerooy incident by literally kicking Arsenal off the pitch. The extra incentive was to also prevent Arsenal from going 50 games unbeaten... then came the "tunnel" incident on the return game at Highbury. By then though, Mourinho's Chelsea side had entered the fray. Arsenal never recovered again after that, and Chelsea and United began a new premier league rivalry.
Roy Keane always says that the United players at that time never chatted with opponents before a match. Seems like he made an exception for Vieira. 😅
