Really love the interplay of atmosphere, dissonance, and loudness on this track. Definitely one of my top favorite Katatonia songs. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
Always get Dark Souls vibes from this song and the album it's from. Always used to listen to it whilst I played and it really fit the painted world of Ariamis.... Ahh good times.
@@w4rlock348 idk what the Maynard thing is but yeah the vocals are similar in singing style to Tool as well. Still the only song i like by them atm lol

Hey, if you're reading this, you're lucky - you are reading what I typed while listening to this for the first time. I think it sucks ass but as always I will probably come here more times until I will love this song. That happens every time.
Simón Actually, the band described themselves as gothic metal. They sound similar to the Cure at times, so that's just one way of describing them. IDK if it's experimental enough to really be called progressive. Melancholy alternative metal is another set of labels you could use
You're right, they've become a full-fledged progressive metal band by The Fall of Hearts, and yes the Great Cold Distance began their prog direction. Their melancholic atmospheres and occult-obsessed lyrics are still present, so they still have a gothic vibe. I think it's fair to say they've been alt metal since Discouraged Ones, because it's an alternative to standard "heavy" metal - it's similar to much introspective 90s alternative music. The point is, a band can be many types of bands at the same time, and the elements can be stronger and weaker on every album!
This is the first song I ever heard by them. Was hooked from then on.
same for me, and 'my twin'.. gotta love Pandora for showing me Katatonia
Listen to criminals for them too
@BLOODMAGIC RECORDS 💞 damn straight
Same. Pretty new to this band.
Me too.
How is no one speaking about the drumming in this masterpiece! What a fantastic song.
That scream, holy shit! Bone chilling.
I want to be able to do that :(
Not only the scream but those heavy riffs are kicking a lot of fucking ass!!!
Mario Van Dyk same guitarist of bloodbath
Its Blakkheim, of course he can scream his ass off.
Guys, I’ve loved this band for about 2 years, but one member of Ghost is from here! How Rad 🤘
In a league of its own.
They always knew how to create a dark mood
Dark mood which makes me happier than any other kind of music
Really love the interplay of atmosphere, dissonance, and loudness on this track. Definitely one of my top favorite Katatonia songs. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
I'm so sad I just learned about these absolute beastly musicians :(
Always get Dark Souls vibes from this song and the album it's from. Always used to listen to it whilst I played and it really fit the painted world of Ariamis.... Ahh good times.
sounds edgy as fyck m8
Edgy as fuck indeed xD At least I didn't say "I cut myself to this album" or something like that.
so great that it splits my heart in two
do you?
You've paid up for that joke, right?
One of the best rock bands on the planet.
They played this live on the tour, saw them with Moonspell and Agalloch, Katatonia is mighty
Argh! Can't stop headbanging to this >.< ... No matter where I am.
It's like a Tool/Opeth baby
I'm so proud to be Swedish :)
I'm so ashamed not to be swedish XD
I'm bloody Australian and the majority of my favourite music is from Sweden, Norway and Canada!
ruined by immigration.
sadly...
So ashamed to be American. Really. I have a Swedish skull flag on my car.
I always thought it was “I sold my son across the borderline / I’ve found some things you never adjust to”
Sold my soul, across the borderline, I found something i never adjust to
You can clearly hear the Tool influence here. And honestly, this song is quite amazing.
The guitar at 0:49 / 2:14 is pretty The Grudge-sounding.
Chill metal!
So far the song i like best by them.
Makes me think of a heavier Tool song almost
So true drums and guitar at certain parts sound like fourty six and two and third eye also he does the Maynard thing with the octaves when he sings
@@w4rlock348 idk what the Maynard thing is but yeah the vocals are similar in singing style to Tool as well.
Still the only song i like by them atm lol
@@w4rlock348 that about the octaves is true! I think the same everytime I hear it
This song will always be a special one for me.
Simply their best song
Love them...
Listening to this on youtube even though i already have this on my ipod and my phone
amazing

Deftones?
This is gothic metal. Not doom.
Enough with the restrictive labels. This is melodic and brutal metal with electronic touches if you want to actually describe the music.
Meshuggapeth yup. whatever it is, it's fucking awesome
Simón Actually, the band described themselves as gothic metal. They sound similar to the Cure at times, so that's just one way of describing them.

Melancholy alternative metal is another set of labels you could use
It's because of their dark, gloomy vibe. I remember Phil Anselmo talking about how much he likes the cure. Then there's Deftones too
You're right, they've become a full-fledged progressive metal band by The Fall of Hearts, and yes the Great Cold Distance began their prog direction.
Their melancholic atmospheres and occult-obsessed lyrics are still present, so they still have a gothic vibe.
