    I toured Oakland Center back in 2000. Very educational.

    Now that was an interesting episode which gave me a little insight to what goes on in the controller's heads.

    That really eased the pressure of thinking about talking to ATC. Thank you

    Student pilot in uncontrolled, rural East Texas, so yes, ATC is very intimidating! Thanks for the episode, loving this show!

    Shades or no shades, Y'all ATC are a great team! Thanks for the great insights into "best practices"

      I really appreciate the compliment! Do you like our strategy to release the Hangar series every other week with a flying video in between? Or do you just watch the Hangar series?

    Great video. I had my training in Class B but I will share that I believe every pilot should attend a tower/tracon get together when possible. You will be amazed and definitely feel more comfortable when talking to ATC. Honestly it should be a requirement in my opinion. They will share with you that they are only trying to help not hurt!

    Line up and wait is not super common where I'm from and I was super confused the one time it had been requested of me. My wife and father in law would likely look like a deer in headlights if they get that instruction. They have minimal time at controlled airports though.

    Years ago I was all in for the renaming of ATC to be "air traffic coordinator" rather than "air traffic controller". Pilots, do not forget that ATC has a job because pilots fly airplanes, not the other way around.

      Matt Wells is The Flying Controller and you can check out his channel- but as employees of the FAA, don’t expect any “controller” content on these channels.

    I visited FW Center back in 1999. Very intriguing place. Knew one of the original programmers. Lets say he was paid well and subsequently funded a major part of Motorsports Ranch with those earnings.

    @ 2:07 Why you get so many students?: plain and simple, if you look on a map for lets say western germany around Dusseldorf area, you got a 10 or even 15 airports within 20 nm , in the US, for example around Chichago its much more, much more diverse, and more importantly, you got certain terrain scenarios around large areas, so large area of the rocky mountains, large flatlands around Miami/ Florida, desert in Nevada, heat areas around Texas, we got it pritty small in europe, and all these areas do have a lot of space and airports nearby. In one video about Lufthansa flight school, they even talked about weather stability in the Miami area for example, although I'm not sure, wether that's still applicable

    Not sure line up and wait is that the same as hold short.?

    • @cssoftware1110
      @cssoftware1110 4 роки тому

      Line up and wait meant to roll out onto the centerline of the runway and wait for further instructions.

    They have no flight instructors Y’all know this. Their minimums are far below ours for ATP. That’s why us pilots can expatriate and make so much more money compared to state side.

    It's cheaper (fuel, aircraft cost, etc) and there are less airspace restrictions for the Foreign students.

    • @TakingOff
      @TakingOff  6 років тому

      Interesting... didn't think about that.

    • @LimeyTX
      @LimeyTX 5 років тому

      Not only is it far cheaper, but many areas of the US have superb weather. I remember one January in England when I was learning (many decades ago) that the airplanes were never even out of the hangar all month. Now where I live, in Fort Worth, you might have the odd IFR day but not for weeks at a time. So a flight school in PHX, for example, can pretty much guarantee you a Private license in a short time if you have the cash already.

    Good info, but to say, “we’re just regular guys; we’re not the cops,” suggests you don’t have that same belief that police officers are just regular guys (and gals). It suggests you have an underlying disrespect for police officers because you believe we’re NOT regular people, that we’re just a bunch of A-holes.
    You should understand that a lot of police officers who are aviators, probably take exception to your comment.
    THOUSANDS of us fly, whether professionally for our respective departments, for military Guard or Reserve units, operating side businesses in aviation, or for the pleasure of it.
    Way to exclude us from your conversation.
    Also, you should want to represent yourselves as professionals in a forum such as this. After all, you’re talking on behalf of all ATCs and the FAA, whether officially endorsed or not. Therefore, you should present yourself as such. The shades, coupled with the tee shirt, suggest otherwise. Imagine if a cop were to wear a similar tee shirt in such a forum; you’d think he was a jerk...or rather a bigger jerk.
    Safe flying everybody, even to those flying who protect and serve.

    • @TheFlyingController
      @TheFlyingController 5 років тому +1

      Where is this coming from? Put the sentence back in context and read it very slowly. We have all the respect and then some for Military and Police officers. I was Air Force myself. I doubt alot of police officers who are aviators take exception, I think you are just a tad butt-hurt. But that's ok. This whole conversation was filmed for anyone who can relate to it. In the past few years and with new student pilots, take a poll and you will find that alot of them think that WE (Controllers) are out to get them, which is not the case. This common misconception comes from everyone thinking cops are out to get them while they are driving, which is also NOT the case. Take a breather, then think.
      You don't like the shades? Don't care...Dont like the shirt? Don't care. This is who I am. If a cop would wear what I was wearing, I personally would feel more comfortable around him/her. There is an intimidation aspect I think you may have failed to think about when it comes to the intent of this video. Again, it's that we are people just like anyone else and the imaginary fear factor that people create in their heads about us is un-necessary. "We (ATC) are not out to get you" is one of the main things we demonstrate, on and off camera. Good day.
