I've been helping out the developer in pre-Alpha testing and I can tell you something.
BUY IT!!! Pre-order!!! Support this guy!!!
You wouldn't believe how dedicated he is to get it done. Just the difference between this version of Alpha and and the previous pre-Alpha version from a month ago I have been testing is huge. Especially with graphics and taking care of bugs and glitches. He also listens to feedback from the players regarding gameplay, unlike many big developer companies.
If he manages to finish it this will be one of the best city builders in the last decade, or even more.
About the gameplay, wealth level is money the family has. They use that to buy food, clothing, firewood, pay rent etc. They earn it by working. They don't just take stuff from the storage like in other similar games. They have to buy them and that makes your money, besides trade. And the construction system is the most awesome thing to watch. I found myself playing it on normal speed just watching buildings getting built. You never get bored of that.
I wonder if that economy system is really there to stay. Dwarf Fortress used to do that but it was removed because it didn't really serve its purpose.
What I know from the gameplay design he revealed so far this will stay. If people run out of money or don't have jobs they will move out. Kinda like an upgrade to an old system used in Impressions Games legends like Zeus, Caesar, Pharaoh etc.

I kinda need the WAR element in my games, simple building game is meh...
I tried Frostpunk, and it got booring FAST!
This has some strong potential, looking forward to seeing it develop.
And some of the details are amazing. No sprites popping up from the ground here....they build each piling, then the frame, flooring, etc. Impressive.
OMG. I just about came in my pants when I saw the grass wear away with foot traffic. Haven't seen that since The Settlers 3. I love how nothing is abstracted in this game. You have to do everything by hand. It's a methodical city-builder's dream.

Desire paths.
oxen are castrated bulls. sunflowers give 2 sunflower oil. shoes sell for 35. women do not use carts. trade store has to have manager to trade. farms managers can set fields up for several seasons. make sure and have water close by and hay for cow sheds before you get the cows. make sure and get more iron by trading before you run out of nails. just some hints on how to play this game. really looks good.

By common sense a clay pit should go near the water ... And not upstream because it taints the water ...
Ah yes games like this and Banished really bring up the urge that you should (could) make a game yourself... and then the laziness and distraction comes knocking on the door.
Seeing this game reminded me of the game 0 A.D.
If you don't already have a long list of vids to make you should check it out. it's "a free, open-source game of ancient warfare". Basically an RTS City Building game. =)
This game looks gorgeous. It's been on my radar for a while but I'm not sure if there's enough gameplay yet to be worth buying it.

Obviously that looks awesome. Does anyone who followed the developement til 2014 has any info how fast new things get added? I am always doubtful of single dev guys that do very promising and complex game on the side.

I would like to see this continue. However, may I suggest doing cuts a bit more (like in your Kenshi episodes)? This episode had a lot of occasions where you were watching the people running around like little ants in their ant farm, which wasn't the best.
Wow this looks like it could be really good especially if it's open to modding which the page on steam says it will be. :D

Yep, $20 gets you lifetime access including a Steam key when that becomes a thing. No paid DLC planned apparently.
This game had been on my radar for awhile now. Shame that they are predrawn maps. I tend to like procedural maps better.
The mechanics and buildings look very interesting and fun, but the graphics need richer colors and better trees and all around some polishing.
JaniceHope it's in alpha, the trees look like trees and the colours in no way strike me as incorrect. The colours match the reality of the game. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. Have a look at Transport Fever for an example of how colour palette and trees have not hindered a great game.
An alpha, no shit Sherlock. Who'd have thought? And guess what else? Good Graphics make a great game even better. And those trees look like they need some work and variation. You're entitled to your opinion that this alpha is already perfect in that regard... I however think you're wrong.
Also you know next to nothing yet about the reality of the game... it's not finished yet. Remember?
Addendum: Funny, I just went to the HP of the game... and guess what?Among a lot of other things this was on their posted to do list/roadmap:
better tree models
improved graphics
customizable building colors, ornamentation
--- can't wait for them to do that and everything else on that list.
You say the game gives you enough food for your first year ... but I would never trust that. I would never play a Colony game without prioritizing some kind of Food income (at least a hunter's lodge ... with leather or furs as a side-product ... or one farm for grain to feed chickens ... or at least some fishing). Lumber obviously requires a processing building in this game, but after that, one food building you can work while all the houses are being built. And build a couple extra houses for more people to move in.
Daniel Budney There really is not much time to get a fishing industry running before the first winter, seeing as you need to get a forestry, 9 houses and a smithy built in a span of 9 months, all done by just 9 men. But maybe you would be better off losing a fee families just to secure the future of the remaining 6 or so families.
