Hello from a 21 years old French ! I’ve watched a lots of your videos and you are amazing. You see and teach English with origins and science facts, I really like this ! It’s been a while I was confused about Phrasal Verbs and your videos with biscuits was extremely good and it helps me a lot. Thank you for what you’ve done and keep going in that way !

Great so interesting cause I myself learnt English mostly by listening in my sleep listen to radio and songs but I lack experience in talking I grew up this way now I'm old and feel so lazy to speak as I'm not so socialist I enjoy my solitude it become in my conscious mind I don't very need to speak and that's a big mistake of mine cause when I need to comment I suffer so much to express what I want to say get nervous and delete my comment I know the problem all because I don't meet English speaking people and get used of that habit any way I proud of myself that I learned my self English and I can understand all all I hear perfectly while all people surround me hardly know how to write their names.

In other words, we can say that it doesn't change anything, hahahahaha
I mean we need to do more if we want to progress our learning, we need more language exposure (mainly reading and listening) otherwise it will be more distant from us than we can realise it. Christian, thank's for all you've made for the language learning. You bring the scientific researches like so simple way. I love your simple, calm and smiling way to explain complicated things.

It's also a question whether, even if you could monitor your sleep phases and play the input accordingly, it would really be beneficial in the long run. You need your sleep and all its phases to recover. That recovery is also essential to process the things you learned during the day. If you now play input every night during one of the phases, it could mean additional stress and your recovery is less efficient. So you may learn sone extra input, but processing from input that you had during the day might be less effective.
I like using the phases while falling asleep and waking up though. The mind seems more susceptible for suggestions.

In two days, I learned 12 new words/phrases: Chase, Hold, Will be over, You're about, Walked me, Go down, Hold on, I'm going through, Figure out, Put it out, Deal with and Within.
I pretend to learn maybe 6 new words/phrases today.
    On the way to fluence!

Well, you won't believe it but my son refused to study German (it was a school subject) so I would record vocabulary, verbs and sentences for him and turn them on at night. I knew what he knew before I did this the first time and there were a lot of new words for his test the next day. Well, he not only got the words he knew correct on the test but also a lot of the ones he hadn't known. I was amazed. It wasn't a miracle but it did work. Proof of this also lay in the fact that his sister was studying Spanish instead but they were sharing their bedroom. She would often come down in the morning asking what some German word meant and I often didn't tell them when I was going to turn it on because my son disagreed with the method. I just turned it on after they were already asleep and got up around 5.30 am to switch it off again before they woke up and complained to me. In any case, I don't recommend it to my language students but I will try it out on myself now I've decided to try learning Hungarian (with EarPods so my husband doesn't complain)!!

I've read that hearing and smell are disabled during sleep. Maybe in a book "We Are Our Brains" by Dick Swaab.
So, you don't feel any smell when you're sleeping. Experienced it many times myself. And during some phases of sleeping only dangerous sounds can pass through your brain and wake you up. At least in some sleeping phases. Also experienced it many times when slept during a bus ride. Sometimes when I woke up sounds became loud with a few seconds delay.

Here is an interesting fact that I didn't know what it is until I watched this video. When my brain go back to stage 2 from stage 3, at that moment only I hear English clearly and recognize all words. It seems that when I'm fully awake, there is something in my brain that works as a barrier and hinders my ability and makes me unable to recognize words clearly. Very interesting! Does this happen to anyone?
