This was recorded during sound check at the Roseland Theater, Portland, Oregon on June 9th 1993 for those of you wondering.

Man, this really sounds like something out of Images and Words (almost like a more festive Surrounded, perhaps?). Amazing that this sort of energy and feel can be captured even all these years later with a clever twist to it. Amazing work!
Edit: It would appear I have mistaken this for a new song rather than a rerelease, but either way it holds up rather well.

It sounds like that because this is just a rerelease of a song they did 30 years ago.
It has the same two-chord progression as the intro of Surrounded (G to C, repeated) and a somewhat similar timbre of the keyboard, so that's a big part of why you think that, lol.

Sang this in church this morning. A blessed Christmas to all the DT family.
I saw them do this in a little club in November of ‘92 on the first American leg of the Images and Words tour. Standing no more than five feet from John, this was one of the Supreme musical experiences of my life.

Labrie's voice was so powerful
I thought at first that the vocals sounded like Awake b/c of the reverb. then he hit some of those high trills and I was like "there's no way". Then he hit the classic high notes and I was like "yeah this is old".

Dream Theater superbly interpret this Christmas song. The rock paw emerges even if softened. Singer James Labrie lets his melodious and powerful voice vibrate, gracefully accompanied by the great musicians of the band.

This song was actually recorded for the fans back in 1996, with Mike Portnoy on drums and Derek Sherinian on keyboards.
It's recorded in -93 and that's Kevin Moore on keys.
