Wow bunch of haters in the comments below. Great technology and advancements in sailing over the past years, glad this channel is capturing it. Keep up the good work. Add more drone shots :)
Some amazing footage, but this could easily stretch to 30 minutes with longer shots and a bit deeper narration / interviews rather than the short soundbites. Good, but just needs more to be great!
"The T-foil rudders on the outer hulls are an ingenious and complex solution and designed by the Gitana team. They feature elevators to adjust trim and are operated by hydraulic system monitored by electronic software" naval architect Guillaume Verdier. Or simply team Gitana devised hydraulics powered from batteries supplied by a diesel and wind generators.
Such a major development, so spec-cat-cular, thank goodness for Utube, or ... well we can see why the people of the USA are not being shown anything like this - it might make US want Progress! In the direction of clean energy.
Great show as always, but why is there never any segments from Monaco/The Riviera? There are tons of events in and around Monaco. Sure, St Tropez is coming up, but you should follow the Yacht Club de Monaco. Lots of exciting stuff happening.
are you looking for the position?, always somebody critic the works of others without knowing what rules of time and space have to be follow. Sorry but I think is a very nice piece and like it.
Too fast cuts. When people watch UA-cam they are not in a hurry, you know... It's nice to get to the point quickly, sure, but once you are there there is no need to torture the viewers like that. Pity...
Really cool stuff. At those speeds however they can definitely and quite possibly are hitting and killing whales. Something the sailing racing world is well aware of but not talking to loudly about. It's not just shipping, it's not just fishing boats, it's racing sailboats too, and I think it's about time they get recognized as being a danger to Whales. Other than that... really cool stuff :)
....I mean, has a whale been hit by a sail boat at some time sure....to say it is even a problem? Why bring up sail boat strikes when by numbers its power boats that are over 99.9% of them? Even a 50 kn hydrofoil sailboat does less harm than a kid in 9 foot 6 hp metal prop john boat going fishing for the day...just an fyi love the thought just run with it else where, Such as manatee habitat and home drains adding chemicals. Keep the good fight and lets get a beer or rum sometime, cheers!
Just as a comfort sail boats even seeing a whale are one in 10,000 looking for them (actively using chaos theory) and 1 in a cool million for touching a whale( including hands and 80% of encounters)....hitting while moving under motor in a sailboat... 1 in 1 billion...under sail power 1 in 2 billion. A whale being killed by a sailboat....is just after the odds of winning a publishing house grand prize @ 2.3 billion'ish. So you have a better chance at the lottery than hitting a whale in a sail boat.
Correction: you have a greater chance of winning the biggest lottery while under sail (1+trillion chances to not hit per one hit ) at any speed. Humans aren't as bad as you think ;)
I am so tired of cats. Sure, when they foil they’re fast, but honestly, so what? What’s interesting about a sailboat race? Tactics and strategy. A catamaran is so slow to tack that the game-plan on the windward leg is fewest tacks as possible. If you watch a match of closely contested monohulls you’ll see a far more interesting race, even if they’re not going as fast. These days, with asymetrical spinnakers the downwind leg has the potential to be just as interesting, but only if gybing does not cost dearly. In my opinion, foiling is/will be interesting only when boats can maintain the foil when tacking and gybing. Otherwise the penalty is just too great to allow for interesting tactics. The 52 Super Series has great races. I look forward to the 2021 America’s Cup boats. Forget cats!
I watch both and I think you're talking about class not brass. Monohulls will always look graceful be it a race or anchoring but to this day they will never be as fast...look at the record holders in circumnavigation. I sail a mono for that graceful movement but if you want speed give it up and take that bang.
Who on earth approved the voice over for Sail GP. Facile, idiotic, obviously written by an advertising/PR hack with no knowledge of sailing or interest in anything other than his pay check. With all that money behind it, just pathetic. Anyone remember the 'National' F1 type motor racing ? No - not surprising! This will last a year at most, than fade away. If you want to watch a racing series - TP52 is the real thing.
Water & wind & beauty..I'm crying..

Just found the channel and am now a subscriber!

4:38 How are the foil manoeuvring mechanisms powered?

Oo, Enoshima, that's an hour on the train for me.
I could care less about the trolls, nice boats and fab views.

The fins look awfully fragile in the water at 40kn.

Ron Jagraf/x quite harsh but I have to agree.
is that Betsy Devos brother?
It is not NOV.. yet...
5 times less but 5 times longer snaps would be better.
Sailing solo is relatively easy... racing solo is a totally different effort.

This report is all flashing images, one can't see anything substantial. Dislike.
Thanks, that's all I needed to know. I'm out of here.
You brits you have to do something the french are doing well!

Arlin Geyer. Cats are cool and do funny stuff. A personnel opinion is just that. Thank you for your bias, interesting point of view.

Great show...
This is the 1% of the 1%. Hope that they aren't the evil types...
Without the 1%, there wouldn't be any sailing. It's all thanks to the skippers and the sponsors.

Yes, the Sailiing GP sounds like a great idea, but F1 is team sports, not national. Hmm.
13:28 "turbo charged" lol
David Leigh. Most people are only interested in a pay check not matter their work in life. How many people work for free. not many.
