Therefore, those people seek out things and activities that feel familiar to self-console and make peace with it. Some of those people turn into monsters, and those monsters tend to harm others or reenact the crime(s). You know, do to someone else what was done to them. That's the worst case scenario. But back to his relationship with adult content. People with problems are the most susceptible to addiction. That's how it works. He *clearly* explained to us that his addiction was driven by a desire for isolation and a need for control. Why does this matter? Because isolation creates a safe space, and the hunger for control stemmed from his lack of it when he was eight. He had no control of the situation or even his own decisions during that incident. By sequestering himself to his room and seeking out this content, he could make his own decision to engage without input from anyone else. The story of his actions tell us exactly what the problem is and how he attempted to deal with it. Unfortunately, he got it wrong, and his way of treating himself ultimately isn't effective in general. Until he discovers and fully addresses the *actual* problem, he's just going to form an addiction to something else as a new coping mechanism, or he's going to fall into destructive behaviors. Protecting our sons is equally as important as protecting our daughters, and if my father could've been present to intervene all the times it happened to me, he *would have* intervened. But the first time happened by surprise at a time when cell phones weren't at all common, and then he was in a grave all the other times it happened.
