    thank you sir i wanted to say this helped me a ton. my uncle died and his final wish was for me to play careless whisper for him. I only had a couple of minutes i wrote all the notes down and played it for him. I really owe you my eternal gratitude sir.

    So I learned this intro from your video, went away and practiced and practiced till I not only knew it off my heart, but could play it reasonably well at full speed.
    Then I went to find the sheet music so I could also play the melody of the verses which was the point I realised, you've got an alto. I've got a tenor. I've learned it in the wrong bloody key! 🤦🏾‍♂️😂

    Splendid stuff Simon!
    Any chance of a tutorial on the sax solo for Spandau Ballet's TRUE (alto if possible, although I know it was originally performed on tenor). It realy would be very much appreciated indeed.
    Am a complete beginner (been playing just 3 months), and I do have a real alto sax, but have moved to a Roland Aerophone AE-10 so that I can practice - even well into the early hours - without causing ear-bleeding to those poor souls around me ;-) and yet still maintain the authentic sax fingerings!
    Either way, thanks very much for this, Simon.
    Am gonna take a look at your online course with a view to enrolling. Seems a very reasonable monthly fee. In the meantime, keep up the good work, sir - very inspiring!

      @@saxschool Thanks very much, Simon, for the invite... but I suspect that the Jam Sessions are somewhat "above my pay grade" at my current level of ability (although I haven't had time to check them out properly yet).
      As I said, I have only been playing close to 4 months now and although I am enthusiastically attempting to tackle pieces like CARELESS WHISPER, BAKER STREET, SMOOTH OPERATOR (and dabbling with a couple of others plus exercises/scales etc) I do not consider myself at all at any level to be "jamming" just yet... But... I will check out the sessions in the members area for sure for future reference and it is certainly something to aim for as I would love to join you and have a go when the time is right (maybe if you have a simple "stab" of a note-or-three section for me in a piece I could perhaps have a go (but would you want a Roland Aerophone AE-10 player in the mix anyway amongst you REAL sax players? ;-)
      By the way, my first impressions of the "Members Area" overall is most positive, so I shall probably sign up at the end of the month's trial run as it sems very reasonable and with a wealth of lessons and learning available to grow and develop (I notice you have a course on Udemy also. Is this the same as your "Members' Area"? Is there any advantage of choosing one over the other?).
      Anyway, I have subscribed on here also and so shall be keeping up to speed with your tuition. I just love my newly discovered instrument. The sax is something I have always loved the sound of and have yearned to play, and I am delighted to have finally taken the plunge. Very addictive. Very enjoyable... and very theraputic!
      P.S. Please do crack on with TRUE asap - I'm chomping at the bit to learn it! ;-)

    Just curious, why that particular F# fingering? I've only been playing about a year and I'm only familiar with F# with the third finger on the right hand, not the second finger. Is it to do with intonation? Or perhaps just because it means you don't have to lift your middle finger during that scale run?

    • @saxschool
      @saxschool  2 роки тому

      For the sax it’s the middle of the 3 fingers. The flute fingering is the 3rd finger

      Sorry no! It will sound good on it’s own but not playing to a backing track.

    Hey this is a great tutorial! I'm a total beginner and this is the first song I'm learning. What does thumb on mean? Obviously it's not referring to the black "button"?

    • @saxschool
      @saxschool  3 роки тому

      Hi. Your thumb should always be resting on the black rest, I mean add you thumb onto the octave key. Sorry it wasn’t clear
