I have a Japanese maple air layer that looked similar to yours -- leaves wilting and color turning. It has a few roots developing but not enough to remove it from the mother plant. So I pruned it back by maybe 3/4. The remaining leaves have perked up. Fingers crossed that it will be okay -- yours, as well as mine.
Your unidentified bush in the back, I think, is a mock orange, Philadelphus coronarius. I think that vine you were talking about taking right back is a nightshade, but it seems like you might have said it was a benign version of nightshade previously?
@@RogersGardenandBonsai Mock Orange is another plant that it is easy to prune the flower off of. Needs to be pruned right after the flowering. Hopefully you can leave it unpruned this year and it will flower next year. Especially now that it is getting more light.
Not sure but the unknown bush you think may be mock orange could be, or could be a type of viburnum? There are lots of different varieties. Have a Google of blossom types.
Glad you are having help from Hannah this weekend. She often has great ideas. Garden is certainly coming along.
Thanks.

We reduced the height but left the rest unpruned.

I also think it's Mock Orange but it will need to bloom to be sure.
