  • Our indoor Jersey Royals are growing well and we’re passing our tracked crawler to re work the ridges. This helps control the weeds and will hopefully reduce greening of the tubers when we come to harvest too.
The dry weathers allowed us to start with our potato planters the Midema belt planter and Grimme cup planter both planting English salad varieties.
Covering of the polythene continues and we look back to see how well the Italian rye grass cover crop has done sown back in August.

Great video, thank you for posting, one of my jobs as a fifteen years old was knocking down the ridges with a mounted curved three row potato harrow, and ridging up again all with a Ferguson TEF 20 usually once a week, it saved using a gang with hoes for weed control. If frost looked likely we would ridge up again!

I’ve worked with potatoes planting harvesting and all in between
I can’t get over how little soil you cover them with compared too here .
I had a week in jersey last august and toured a few farms .
Would have been interesting to meet you ..

Very interesting video. Do you add organic fertilisers during the crop cycle? eg bonemeal; seaweed; comfrey leaf mould. What potato seed varieties are you developing for the future and how?

At what point do you take the plastic off the potatoes, it will stop them growing as the plants get bigger.
