TL;DW Not all parries are equal. They vary per character and per attack. Parries are usually rated by first hit in a combo. Rover is my golden standard, since I have most experience with Rover, everyone has Rover, and Rover also has very generous hitbox shapes and lifespan. The two concepts today are Pre-Parry and Parry Cancel. Pre-parry relies on a Resonator’s lingering attack hitbox, allowing you to take other actions while waiting for an enemy to collide with your parry hitbox. This allows a much wider Parry Window by setting up Parries far in advance of the normal window. Hitboxes do not disappear until either hitting an enemy, or expiring naturally. By keeping your distance and swinging a lingering hitbox early, you essentially set up a "trap" for the enemy to run into, making certain annoying moves a lot easier to counter. If you directly hit an enemy with your weapon during a Pre-Parry, your hitbox will prematurely expire and the upcoming Parry will fail. Parry Cancel relies on the delay between producing a hitbox and an enemy being successfully parried. There is a delay even on point blank attacks that allows you to take action before the parry completes, but is measured in milliseconds and difficult to take advantage of. Normally, a Pre-Parry has a massive delay between producing the hitbox and an enemy being Parried. Your hitbox remains so long as you do not cast an echo or swap off. Therefore, your options are skill, or Perfect Dodge. Perfect Dodge is the preferred method to generate Resonance Energy and Concerto Energy to speed up or add tolerance to rotations, while still Parrying the enemy. The Dodge must occur before the Parry lands, meaning the enemy needs to be close enough to be considered hitting you at the moment of Dodge. Jiyan cannot Pre-Parry well due to noticeably shorter first hitbox lifespan. Calcharo *can* Pre-Parry, and thus can also Parry Cancel reliably with practice, giving massive damage from his Resonance Liberation’s Dodge Counter, while still destroying shields from the Parry itself. Yes, this elevates Calcharo’s rotation damage even higher, whereas Jiyan cannot take advantage of this. *TIMESTAMPS* I'm on Twitch too now! Amazing video, it confirmed my suspicion of this, as parries are inconsistent between characters, some can be early, some are tighter This applies to Havoc Rover too while in Death Surge form (Forte Circuit activation). Maybe because the Death Surge form changes the animation of the basic attack. Tho the lingering hitbox is still there on normal form's first basic attack, unsure about the second basic attack because it has different animation than Spectro's. It's very nice to have a hard/challenging aspect on this game, as expected from PGR's devs. Not boring like the other xD

Might get even harder in future, but the goal today is to hopefully make parrying in general a bit easier for annoying attacks, hence the Pre-Parrying being quite accessible and front half of the video. You do not need to Parry Cancel whatsoever, and is moreso an extension of Pre-Parrying for DPS optimization.
If I'm understanding this right... I actually think you stumbled upon a potential "Option Select" with this. Dunno how familiar you are with Fighting Games, but an Option Select is when you let the game decide for you. Since Pre-Parry and Dodge are executed at the same time, you get 1 of two outcomes: 1. You Parry, Dodge Cancel the Parry, and go into your DPS or 2. You fail the Parry, which causes a Dodge anyways. The player input is the same. The game decides which of the two results you get based on the timing. In essence...there's no reason not to use this. It's all upside.
Yup, the worst situation is just you fail the check and don't get hit :) Though the window to land a perfect dodge right before the parry connects is quite tight, since the normal dodge window is significantly larger than the perfect dodge window. There is an overlap between the parry window and perfect dodge window, and the perfect dodge window begins only ever so slightly before the parry is allowed to occur successfully.

Great video, figured out the lingering hitboxes myself, but didn't know about pre-parrying + dodge countering tech. Besides from Calcharo, I think Danjin would benefit greatly from the latter, since dodge counters fill her forte quite fast. Also Jiyan has two more amazing parry tools - his CA and I think NA 3 or 4, the one with spear rotating around him.
Thank you! I have since learned I could improve adding a keyboard and mouse tracker for the more technical parts, as I've had some tell me that some parts are harder to follow. Totally missed it, since making footage from my PoV makes me very biased since I already understand what I'm presenting 😂
I just started the game 3 days ago... i didn't realize the parry mechanic even existed, but i remember the tutorial where it told me about the circle thing, i just didn't realize it was a parry, i just evaded everything going forward. :))
As a fighting game player, this felt super intuitive. The idea of moves with "active hitboxes" combined with the idea that hitboxes and hurtboxes are different things was a natural concept, though I understand this is probably really odd for people used to action RPGs.
It’s like having a character with a “plus on block” attack in fighting games. Rover, and some characters, have moves with a statistical frame advantage vs enemies. Crazy. This is going to make the hardcore players delve into the hit box and frame data of character movesets.
Danjin has a high advantage with the perfect dodge parry; she gets a damage bonus to her 2nd E with an unlockable talent when she does her perfect dodge counter.
Everything you’re explaining is valid and already is a pre existing concept in other games. What you’re referring too as the pre parry is something that’s referred to as using active frames. In some situations it could be called a meaty attack. Every attack has startup frames, active frames, and recovery frames. Attacks with more active frames = good for parry.
hmmm I struggled for the whole week with Calcharo since his attack has wider range than most of characters. This also means his attach reach to the target first and cancel the parry. Your vid enlightened me. Many thanks.
Well i'll still have to work on my timings now but after this video atleast I know what to do. Before this, i didnt knew what to do and my parry were hit or miss. Thankyou for that
Well written script, easy to follow, great articulation, wide knowledge of the game's combat system and characters. You, sir, are a top tier content creator in disguise. Now shut up and take my like, comment, and subscribe.
I always feel badass when I parry with Jiyan using his skill. U know one of those scenes in anime where the MC and the villain just dash forward towards each other to deal the final attack? It feels that way to me hahaha like you collide with them as they dash towards u.
Using a controller: I just move forward the same time as I parry, works every time (as long as the boss not too off to either sides). The melee attack auto gravitate toward the boss, moving closer will make sure it reach.
About parry windows, havoc rover darksurge basic attacks are similar to jiyan with parries, spamming it essentially allows for automatic parry. Spec rover's E should do the same. Also if you ever overcommit your parries too early, just use your E, echo, ult, or intro to parry depending on situation. A good example would be danjin's and verina's E. In verina's case only her heavy and E actually parries afaik Storing concerto energy for intro parries are the easiest to time, more forgiving too.
Great vid and explanation. Also i understand why i brought Rover and Jiyan to spotlight with this one, but personally i belive both techs will benefit even more characters, which already rely on parries so much. Gauntles users already have tendency to parry so often, sometins even by accident with fast attack chains and lingering animations. Also so far all three gauntlet users have range extention in their chains beyond character hitbos (Jianxin on all attacks, with a3 hitting even behind, Yuanwu on a2 and a3, and Lingyang durinng his forte HA). This, with many of there attacks being multihits makes prepary feel like natural state of play with them, and dodgeparry on top feels like it allows to bridge gap between them and current top dps. I can imagine, that Jiyan and Calcharo will go even further with this, once you master both techs on them, but just the idea of it makes me excited about future limited gautlet users.
Dodge, parry are just some of the moves that produces i-frames and damage windows another one is using intros/tags/swap that next their intro damage close the target or away with distance. Resosance liberation cast animation is also one.
I honestly have been holding heavy attack whenever I should parry since day 1 and its worked most of the time, probably unknowingly taking advantage of lingering hitboxes
Nice video. I think calcharo has that in his kit because if you do dodge at all during his ult you willlikely not be able to get his third big jumping attack before his ult expires.
There is T-cancel tech that can be used to mitigate this and still land the 3rd Death Messenger. However, that requires more learning as well and responding on the fly. Though the alternative is just getting hit, or dodging, both of which would also make you miss 3rd DM.
Her/his ult is also one of the best stability/shield reducing ults in the game too. And its incredibly easy to use. Also character switching can also parry some hard to parry abilities also. Not all intro/outro are good at hitting parry but most damage dealers even sub dealers have incredible parry potential.
A.M.A.I.Z.I.N.G video dude omg ... I am looking forward to your next videos especially with the very high skill ceilling that this game's combat has ..
Parrying is hard to master but once you get the hang of it, it feels so good. It's literally a F*** YOU to the face to your enemy, and I hecking love that.
Thank you very much for doing this in depth videos, I usually dont find anything useful on every other wuwa video, cant wait to see what other videos you came up with 😁
I dont know if anyone else mentioned this because I didnt check all of the comments, but Jianxins basic attacks past the first one are all multi-hit, so its pretty nice for consistently hitting parry timings especially on the 3rd attack that hits 4x, often if i just constantly basic attack i parry without timing it, but this is very cool, I am going to try to do this more intentionally and also aim for the perfect dodge
I've since been enlightened to her small-ish but solid aoe hitbox, multi-hits, and auto counter. Honestly, she seems like a hilarious option to just basically negate almost everything Mephis does. You just need enough damage, which should be doable with buffs.
danjin e1 is amazing too cuz the "aura" or however you called it last for a long time, so if they rush to you like mephis when you see the circle at like half charge its a guaranted parry or at least y got trying out while watching the video 20 out of 25 parries successfully. Gotta add i play on 200 ping so maybe this is more a me thing or smth like that

Jianxin Hold E into a swap could provide some neat utility. She just stays there as a potential parry bot for a really long time. The sad thing is when a off-field char parries your on field char can still get it. You just get a free parry and a dodge attack.
great video, super concise and easy to follow! i must say, some parries feel pretty unintuitive in wuwa. this cleared some stuff up and makes me wanna test the windows for pre-parries on other characters.

New subscriber. Excellent video. Would appreciate an explanation of how to handle parries in a real team not just using one character when fighting a difficult boss. Only if im swapping into a melee character? Other videos id love to see: Which abilities have s and how should i use these abilities best? Does swapping have s? Danjin has a high advantage with the perfect dodge parry; she gets a damage bonus to her 2nd E with an unlockable talent when she does her perfect dodge counter.
Damn good video. Well spoken, good visuals to help explain the points. Really great job.
Thank you. It was a fair bit of work trying to get the footage for this one haha
That's only if u heavy attack.. if u basic atk it will be melee range ..
Well i'll still have to work on my timings now but after this video atleast I know what to do. Before this, i didnt knew what to do and my parry were hit or miss. Thankyou for that
No worries, I hope the last few days have been fruitful in your journey to parry the world :P
@@AznvasionsII haha yes, i have been learning thundering mephis moves and i can dodge most of them now xD
Well written script, easy to follow, great articulation, wide knowledge of the game's combat system and characters. You, sir, are a top tier content creator in disguise. Now shut up and take my like, comment, and subscribe.
My disguise has failed oh no :O
Thank you for your support!
useful for the crafted gauntlets give 50% dodge counter damage.
dodge countering on danjin is also a dps increase
I always feel badass when I parry with Jiyan using his skill. U know one of those scenes in anime where the MC and the villain just dash forward towards each other to deal the final attack? It feels that way to me hahaha like you collide with them as they dash towards u.
Using a controller:
I just move forward the same time as I parry, works every time (as long as the boss not too off to either sides).
In verina's case only her heavy and E actually parries afaik
Storing concerto energy for intro parries are the easiest to time, more forgiving too.
1:20 Thank you. I was very much guessing what the game wants the timing to be.
No problem, I know that the game wasn't fully clear about it
Damn man , really informative video. Thanks a ton
Cheers! Glad it helped you out :)
I can imagine, that Jiyan and Calcharo will go even further with this, once you master both techs on them, but just the idea of it makes me excited about future limited gautlet users.
such a sick video, coming from fighting games this stuff is super interesting o-o
Yea, Jiyan's heavy parry is really strong, just a little bit awkward on timing since you have to commit. But it's quite forgiving.
Wait so I was doing parry cancel all this time without knowing. NOICE
Really nicely done i need to test this out!
Her/his ult is also one of the best stability/shield reducing ults in the game too. And its incredibly easy to use. Also character switching can also parry some hard to parry abilities also. Not all intro/outro are good at hitting parry but most damage dealers even sub dealers have incredible parry potential.
This video is so damn goated, great job!
A.M.A.I.Z.I.N.G video dude omg ... I am looking forward to your next videos especially with the very high skill ceilling that this game's combat has ..
Thank you! I'm looking forward to future content and updates too. I'm just really enjoying exploring the world and what cool stuff we can do.
Bro i just tried to focus way more on the counters and the boss fights are so much more fun now. thanks
Cheers, I'm glad it helped out!
I watched several videos with tips on parry techniques and the only conclusion I could draw from them was “you need to practice”
Nice video, this changes how I think about parrying
Sooooo interesting and well explained : thx a LOT ! Now on to find those "lingering" hitboxes on other chars ... ;))
Danjin's Skill has it :)
Jiyan's Heavy too.
Jianxin in general
Yangyang's Skill.
Havoc Rover to a somewhat similar extent
@@AznvasionsII Great, thanks for the clues ! s(^.^)-b
Parrying is hard to master but once you get the hang of it, it feels so good. It's literally a F*** YOU to the face to your enemy, and I hecking love that.
Definitely super satisfying animations, and that clang sound is so perfect. Plus the full stagger break animation is amazing too.
Thank you very much for doing this in depth videos, I usually dont find anything useful on every other wuwa video, cant wait to see what other videos you came up with 😁
We've got quite a list of stuff I need to get around to doing, just will take some time since the grind must continue as well o7
you make it sound so easy i will try it. thanks
Gotta add i play on 200 ping so maybe this is more a me thing or smth like that
Ahahahha the parry-dodge happened to me sometimes with calcharo when I tryed to parry and then panic dodge cause I realised it was too early
Very informative for such a low subscriber count, keep it up dude!
you explained it really well, good video
With enough practice, now you have Royal Guard gameplay
I'm looking for a guide like this instead of those repetitive video that I'm seeing 10x per day lol. You deserve a sub sir
Try watch rexlent.. He have guide for parrying mephis and aix
this kinda reminds me of monster hunter. we need to remember not only monster's attacks hitbox but also our own hitbox attacks.
A future unit with zero recast time upon activating some sort of special state would be extremely OP for parry
THIS 4:50 EXPLAINS EVERY SINGLE FAILED PARRY I DO
this is why im always confident to just attack when Jiyan is in his ult, even bosses can't get close
Love this video thank you. It explains why button mashing works so well lol
Cheers and thanks for watching! Some Resonators are just built different 😎
Thank you. Very clear explanation!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching
teach this to the channel "On Game" I watched his 6hr gameplay walkthrough video, and his parry and dodging are bad, video is 8 days ago as of making this comment. you can even see my rant on the comment section, I usually don't comment too much, but that's a 6hr video, and there's parts I am not satisfied with.
edit: knowing it's 8 days, I think he's already mastered the art of parry and dodge.
We all learn at different paces, and not all of us are as inclined to immediately learn the mechanics to master fights earlier. I imagine they've probably gotten better in some capacity, but that to remember we're only playing for our own enjoyment at the end of the day. We might mald, but we're still having fun, otherwise we would stop playing :)
@@AznvasionsII I agree, and checking on his channel, he did Improve drastically, although I know his channel is mainly focus on guides, I was just irritated at that part of his 6hr video. but yes, we all have our definition of fun, I did not take that into account.
Jianxin Hold E into a swap could provide some neat utility. She just stays there as a potential parry bot for a really long time. The sad thing is when a off-field char parries your on field char can still get it. You just get a free parry and a dodge attack.
Incredible info, TY!
I accidentally did this without knowing, gonna practice it later.
great video, super concise and easy to follow! i must say, some parries feel pretty unintuitive in wuwa. this cleared some stuff up and makes me wanna test the windows for pre-parries on other characters.
Thank you. I felt the same. I'm still wondering what people can do with Encore if needed for parries, since I know she can be very...awkward for them.
watching this just for fun since im already used to parry boss while having skills issue doing tactical hologram 4 bosses with 2 dps char only no support and healer
If youre someone thats having a hard time parrying i suggest utilizing violet Herons echo skill if ever you main a electro unit, secondly if youre just lazy to learn all of those just use taoqi for easy parrying :D
Violet Heron is actually really fun. I've tried it a fair bit myself, especially earlier on when I didn't have good Mephis pieces yet. Still very strong and incredibly satisfying.
Yooo sick from warframe to wuthering waves ur really the goat youtuber
Welcome to the other side, I've been waiting a long time for this game to release :D
Holy shit someone who says "concerto" correctly.
Hahaha, I used to perform a lot of music many years back
as someone who plays fighting games I understood quickly on what is happening lol
Very well made video. Concise and easy to understand. 👍
Thank you very much!
That parry + perfect dodge will be perfect for my Danjin ❤
The damage boost from the dodge counter
Great Info! That explains why I had such an easier time parrying with Calcharo.
Thanks! Glad it helped out
wow I did NOT expect seeing a minmax warframe tuber covering this, this is good, I love the tech in this shit too, might want to watch more
o7 Thanks for stopping by on the other side
My warframe GOAT coming in clutch with gameplay tips in this game as well, great video
@@AznvasionsII i came from your community posts but yeah i am also surprised how many wf peeps are in here as well
My go to is just using Calchiro to dodge then hit, because he blinks to the enemies.
hopefully someone makes a detailed parry hitbox per character soon.
Preparing for pre parrying
I already had a feeling that it was easier to parrie with rover than with others. Now it’s confirmed…
When the main character is actually a good unit.
New subscriber. Excellent video. Would appreciate an explanation of how to handle parries in a real team not just using one character when fighting a difficult boss. Ex: if im using jiyan mortefi verina only jiyan can parry….
What do i do when a parryable attack comes up and im not using jiyan at the moment?
Can character swaps parry? Only if im swapping into a melee character?
Other videos id love to see:
Which abilities have s and how should i use these abilities best? Does swapping have s?
Would love to see holo boss guides from you also in addition to showcases. Thanks
This dude made some of the crazy builds on WF and now he’s breaking Wuwa. Nice.
From one game to another :>
Love to learn the nerdy stuff!
I'm thankful that I played PGR for years XD the fact that Parry system there is quite hard and faster than WuWa.
Being a fellow parry god with Calcharo just know it takes a bit of practice but my god with the right build u can end bosses in seconds
Calcharo parrying everything is my head canon, it just fits perfectly with how he plays already.
Thank you for the info!
Cheers!
This explains why i beat the 3 monkeys from far away so much easier from up close.. at that point i gave up and just was parrying/dodging left and right, but when i got closer or ran up to fight, i got destroyed lol
Yea absolutely. Those buggers also completely destroyed me early on in the roguelite when they showed up on some stages LOL
fyi you can also parry by swapping characters
when intro skill is ready, the damage to the white bar is doubled
