Thanks so much Jason, That's brought back wonderful memories for me. Fishing and prawning at night on the South Coast, Currarong area, nearly 30yrs ago! The footage of yourself fishing at sunset is spectacular! Something really special for you and your family to treasure. Thanks again for taking the time to share. It is greatly appreciated 🙌🏽☺️
Looked like a lovely evening for fishing, interesting to see, it was a nice sized salmon, would have been nice to see the big fish, but I guess it makes a good story now, because it could have been anything….
Nicely observed, Jason, that the reward is there in the effort, whether or not there's anything to show. I'd have preferred the pilchards! Isn't it a rather unfortunate misnomer that the Australian Salmon, or salmon trout, is neither a salmon or a trout, but one of only four species of a family whose name in Latin describes "perch", the grouper is a relative. That the NSW fossil shore is directly related to the west coast of NZ is matched with the salmon there, called kahawai, is the most popular fish for Maori. If we're fishing in company with family, there's usually an expectation of fish to catch and take home, and our experience is like trying to perform intricate surgery over a tackle box, while being whipped by wind and sand, in the cold and dark. Expectations and outcomes clash, while the places are crowded with lone fishers, it's daytime and gentle waves for them, sunlight overload gets them chillaxed! Happy fossicking on your adventures!
Cheers. I tend to release these days as I feel I already caught and kept/wasted my share of fish. I might be tempted to keep introduced species such as redfin and trout. However, that means catching one first. NZ and Aus share many species (e.g. snapper) and a sense of humour. It shows that the ditch is a great belittling term of the space between the countries.
Thanks so much Jason,

I know. Very frustrating. It was in the wash along the sand edge when it bit off. I’m thinking a large Tailor as it just took off.

Hey Jason love that part of Australia. A few fossils down Cudmirrah about when I go fishing there to
It is an area I’d happily retire to. I frequented Culburra for a few years when I was young as well. Good times.
Hope u caught a fish buddy
Cheers. One Australian Salmon seen in the video.
