I'm entering into a love/hate relationship with you guys. Love the content, love the tips & love the way you put everything across. Hate that you're always giving me more things to think about & practice. Thanks Overthrow, keep up the amazing work & never change. Cheers and all the best to you :)
Gannon Buhr had a really good video on angle control that goes through that second method. I'm glad you showed both, I remember an original video that only had the first method and Gannon's was so different. Excellent content
The harder I try to throw the disc flat, the more nose up it is and it goes so high into the sky. Any video that could help with the nose up release? It could also be the fact that my elbow doesn’t drive through flat, so a video relating to that would be helpful too. Thank youu!
What do you think about right shoulder being pushed forward for longer space between torso and disc? Sketches for humanity -channel takes an interesting more scientific angle for this is his road to 400ft with programmed simulations and disc pathing.
I can't tell from the video, but does that Sail flip up to mostly flat during the understable test? The understable test isn't to have your super US discs stay on hyzer for the full flight, right?
@@OverthrowDiscGolf man your videos are great and have helped me so much. I played disc golf 10-12 years ago, then went back to traditional golf which I’ve played since age 4. I’m 37 now. I got back into it about 6-7 weeks ago basically from seeing yours and some Foundation/Brodie and Robbie C/Trash Panda videos and now I’m hooked. I’m constantly thinking about it and all I want to do is play disc golf. The form videos and the drills are so freaking good. I’m going to quit being a bum soon and jump on the Patreon. Thanks for the great content!
Curious if you think about footwork impacting the swing plane? Your focus here was on tilting at the waist and pronating the forearm which I definitely agree with. But I noticed in Gannon Buhrs slowmo video from seekr disc golf the position of his brace leg/foot is noticeably different depending on the release angle he’s going for. I can also see it in the video of Simon you guys did but with drew it seems less pronounced.
For me I have smplified everthing into 1 high, low or medium height flight = adjust the height of my starting position. So high flight means low starting point and vice versa 2 hyzer, flat or anhyzer = I set the angle with my forearm and then let the body naturally adjust in the hip joint to create the same swing. This presetting the starting point has improved the success rate of the throws so much it is mind boggling. Before all anhyzers would go sky high which as annoying as hell since just couldnt figure out why. Also one thing I always remind myself with anhyzer throws is that it is far better to loose a bit of power and distance but hit the height and general shape you envision. Stalling out early is usually very costly but 20ft short can still maybe be a chance for birdie, stalling usually mean maybe 50% or less of desired distance which can often be a hard par.
Really helpful. Went out to field to work on today. Concentrating on swing plane helps me keep my arm loose. It feels really natural and surprisingly it doesn't just put me into a big hyzer. And feels like easy distance. Thank you.
Aye man! I’ve been playing for about two years and recently I’ve been experiencing palm pain on my driving hand. It’s like the tendons or bones from my middle and right side ring finger. I don’t know if it’s the release or not or life in general from carrying things. But it’s been painful. Idk if you’d be down, to do a video on hand release. Like which fingers are the last fingers to release the disc.
Watching while folding laundry. Another good one. Your videos dive into things viewers/players like me are working on while also contributing to the vocabulary of technique
Overthrow is awesome! I find it useful to think of the swing plane as extending all the way to the target. I kind of work backwards and visualize the disc path I want, make that into a plane that includes the target, and then shape my body posture to move on that swing plane, as a starting point. Then some adjustments to allow for the disc flight pattern, if that makes sense.
Nice vid, keep up the great work! I'm sending all my buds who want to improve to your channel. This vid brings back memories of an "ah ha" moment when practicing spike hyzers. That idea of working on the swing plane for hyzer shots is a GREAT way to get the feeling of keeping that disc out there. There's something about an extreme hyzer swing plane that helps people put it together, and it's probably because a big spike hyzer doesn't even work if the swing plane isn't right. Seems like it's easier for people to feel that swing plane on a spike hyzer angle and get flight feedback without the confusion of the disc turning and stuff. After getting the big hyzer swing plane down it's much easier to decrease the angle until you have the feeling for all swing plane angles.
The pronation explanation mystifies me. At first, I think that gives ***me*** more hyzer angle, yet it seems to work! Part of the mental confusion, it seems to me, is that the arm is never going to come through at the same level as the shoulder, so it creates a mental illusion as to what's happening. It feels like I'm hyzering when I pull straight through. Then there is the fact that the disc reverses its position through the shot. What was hyzer, becomes anhyzer at some point. Also, wrist action affects the angle. Drew Gibson appears to lose his forearm rotation by the time he gets to the hit. This could be a natural result of the needed wrist action. My first speculations about what was wrong with the explanation was that the real purpose was to help keep the nose down and reduce rounding or overturning an understable disc that i normally too heavy or too fast for us regular people to throw!
I learn so much from these videos, great job guys, and love the pro vids to back up what you preach! I have watched these videos and practice what you are talking about in my living room like practicing yoga, then follow it up with fieldwork practicing with discs, people have given me many compliments on my form due to your content, I can't wait to get back out to do more practice when I'm ready.
any videos on how to follow through and not fall off to the left of the tee as a RHBH shot? i feel like a spinning top that is tilted to the left and i can’t figure out how to get back vertical so my body follows through forward. thanks! keep up the good work.
@overthrowddiscgolf In the high hyzer position my arm feel loose and with great whip and snap but as I stand up straighter I loose that feeling and muscle the disc and loose distance.... do you have any suggestions ?
When I figured out this mental image of the swing plane it helped me with spin, power, and nose angle. This is one of those fundamental concepts I feel like every beginner disc golfer should have explained to them and it would set them up with an amazing foundation to build their form on.
So the last exam example you trew with the body pretty straight and not so much hyzer style. I'm a bit confused about the message here. Also: I'm currently working in the hyzer swing-plane, it's going great, good hyzer flips most of the time, smashing huzer bombs. But throwing on a LOW line is so much harder than before. A cideo or comment on this could be useful. And as always thanks for the really good content!
I married the two concepts: less bend at the waist to bring the swing plane a bit higher and pronation of the wrist to make the anhyzer more accessible. It’s important to still swing the lead shoulder up (although lightly).
I have a question. I feel a lot of the course i play the T pads are short for my walk up and i don't feel like i am taking huge steps, but i feel like i reach the end of the T pad quickly and don't get my full throwing form in. How can i shorten my steps and get my full throwing from in?
But I thought the reason I keep turning and burning stable to over stable discs was because of how powerful I am. Just burned a destroyer? I need more stability!
9:26 Seems to me like Drew pronates his wrist even on flat shots and the on hyzer he has it flat with a very slight tilt and I've been thinking about this on my own form. It's alot easier to keep the forearm lose and keep the elbow up when doing that, so I wonder if that could be a reason to do so aswell?
@@OverthrowDiscGolf I've only tried it a couple of times, but i think i'll try to work on that more. After all hitting the disc on the right angle should be easier when the body is not working against itself (by being too tense and breaking the kinetic chain) perhaps .
7:47 it’s definitely me, I do throw slow and I should have stopped the video but I’m just making sure to give you those sweet UA-cam analytics ;)
This is the only acceptable reason to continue

Yep. Saw that video. It seems to me that the shoulder push causes the stretch across the back helping him feel lag.
Can you make a video showing how to get varying levels of height on different shots? Struggling to throw high for distance without nose going up
Thanks a lot.
So you don't throw flat shots with this swing planes? Or you throw flat like in birds drills, just standing tall and straight?
I can't tell from the video, but does that Sail flip up to mostly flat during the understable test? The understable test isn't to have your super US discs stay on hyzer for the full flight, right?
That would be the best. If you have enough arm speed though there comes a point where it can’t stay on hyzer the whole time.

Hahahahahaha
Is it correct to say that poor swing plane integrity causes off axis torque?
Admittedly I’m not read up on off axis torque but I believe that would be correct.

So you’ve mentioned in the past to “always have pronation” during the stack and back swing. Is that only for annhyzers?
That overstable anhyzer, it still looked like you brought your torso up/back into the hit, or was that just camera angle?
