I couldn't believe Jim Ede never took any opportunity to actually meet Alfred Wallis in St Ives, even though he had known of him for a good 10 years through Ben Nicholson and was accumulating his paintings for shirt buttons. Its a somewhat puzzling and troubling aspect of his relationship with an artist who was clearly valued and proudly displayed everywhere in his house.
