  • A long time ago, people used rituals to connect with the forces of nature, in order to learn from them and be healed.
By visiting mountain peaks and offering gifts to the mountain spirits, the spirits of nature and other noble creatures invisible to the eye, I invite them to renew their alliance with us and urge their assistance in restoring our spiritual bond with nature.
Standing on the mountain peaks, I use drums to call people to the uprising - an awakening of the higher consciousness and love. By restoring our spiritual alliance with nature, we invoke and reinvigorate our own power.
“The UPRISING” is a concept I use to “usher the holy space” into the gallery space in order to bring back the memory of and renew our ancient alliance with the forces of nature.
Bilyana Cincarevic is a Serbian painter, a conceptual artist and an activist in the fields of human rights, with wide experience in different civil society organizations.
She received her MA degree in mural painting techniques from the Faculty of Applied Arts, University of Arts in Belgrade, in 2014.
Her artistic expression is close to modern realism, which she uses to explore the nature of women, from the erotic to the spiritual, giving her own contribution to the feminist art. Her outstanding exhibitions were held in a variety of venues, including the galleries of, the Sabanci University of Istanbul, the University of Massachusetts Boston or the privately-owned Museums.
She uses conceptual and performance arts to take a critical look at the ecclesiastical administration and the patriarchal religious order, finding a link between feminism and religion.
In her performance, Bilyana resorts to rituals and the elements of ritual in order to elevate human awareness and re-establish connection with the forces of nature.
In Art Conversations, a series of mini-panels, she looks into the relations between women, religion and spirituality.
Her broad education, which next to the MA degree also includes years of studying Christianity and other spiritual philosophies, rituals and ceremonies, as well as civil society and humanities, with a focus on protecting women's rights, places her among the intellectuals on the contemporary Serbian art scene.
Her activities are always covered by the local and international media, and she uses her popularity exclusively in order to promote healthy lifestyles, arts and further development of the human consciousness.
