We have a saying about the predominant right-wing party in my country. "They think rich people will be better off if they get more money, and that poor people will be better off if they get less money."
It would be nice that the "right to life" folks would have the same ambition to care for these lives once they're born! They continue to remove school lunches and assistance for low income families.
They don't even care about the lives of fetuses. If they did, they would support rather than oppose all the measures that actually lower abortion rates like comprehensive sex-ed and financial assistance to poor mothers. This is something that I have wondered about: how come the media never presses this side of the conversation? When I had a child I expected to be responsible for his care and needs. If the government says a child must be born then one would expect it to shoulder the same responsibility. When you take away a person's choice, you rob them of their basic humanity, and their right to find their own way to God. You can't force someone to be a good person. However you define good.
No one who is pro choice is trying to take away anyone else's choice. They are nor forcing anything on anyone. If you believe abortion is horrible, many pro choice people will even encourage you to share your perspective. BECAUSE IT HELPS MAKE A CHOICE.

Having been raised in a right-wing environment, it took me having a wanted, planned, non-dangerous pregnancy in a supportive, married relationship-a pregnancy that ended in a safe delivery with a healthy child to come to the real understanding that that decision MUST be between a woman and her doctor (and hopefully but not necessarily her partner), and everyone else needs to take several seats.
I had my child in almost as good of conditions as one could hope for, and I STILL came to the realization that, “Wow, this is not for everyone, and to force someone to go through it against her will is essentially life-threatening torture.”
And yes, I am a Christian. Pro-Choice all the way.
I didn't completely understand until I had an ectopic pregnancy. This was when Roe was still in effect, so my life was saved quickly with no lasting damage. If that were to happen now, in some places I would simply die untreated. In other places, I would have to be literally dying from internal ruptures before the doctors could try to save my life. That experience convinced me that politicians must stay out of private medical decisions.
Two different stories, same conclusion, that pregnancy and all decisions related to pregnancy are the province of the woman and their doctor alone. After that, it’s the pregnant person’s choice who is involved and how. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The sadly amusing thing about the whole "right to life" movement was that, for a long time, evangelicals were totally comfortable with abortion being legal. In fact such luminaries as Billy Graham had spoken in favor of it because a fetus wasn't considered a human being until it had taken its first breath. The major change happened when conservative Christians needed a wedge issue to motivate their congregations to the polls. Somebody decided that abortion would be a good issue, if it was packaged right, and they rode it all the way until Row vs. Wade was repealed. Thus I find it amusing when someone like Mike Pence gets his boxers in a knot over the current Republican platform.
Absolutely true. This wasn’t always a “religious” issue. Clearly it’s about control, not religion, hence the quotation marks. But lots of people have been indoctrinated with a bunch of lies about abortion and now they think they can be the judge of someone else’s life and circumstances. Ironically, the Bible tells them not to judge. I’m a Christian, I just have respect for the free agency of humans. It’s not my job to tell other people what to do. I have enough trouble making my own life decisions.
