Holy smokes, those pictures from last August are such a great snapshot of what your system is capable of. Looks great and we are excited to see what your season brings this year.

I believe there is a mix that will make thinks more drought tolerant and will allow us to raise more nutrient dense crops

First, I'm just proud that you are doing this, I know for fact, you're actions will convert other farmers to these practices. I have to ask what is B4 and B5? Also, given the wind issues you have there, why not plant hedgerows, like we have in England? Also, the picture showing the difference in Corn with a cover crop and without during drought is A1++. The last video I posted is of a sickly plant, I'm trying too rejuvenate via a cover crop and foliar teas....I'm working at home on my Landrace Cannabis breeding projects and just hoping I can influence a few other Cannabis growers to see the light and trust in 500 million years of symbiotic relationships. Living here in Portland, Or, when I leave the city and pass our Farms here, all I see if a petro chemical waste land where food is grown....If you can influence farmers where you are, I'm hoping farmers here will step away from chemicals and become actual farmers again rather than 'agri business chemical applicators'.

Moorland Moss I’ve thought about tree rows around fields or hedge rows. I’ve always backed off on following through because of time, money and being afraid of them dying.

@@youngredangus6041 I totally hear that about time and money..truly wish I could volunteer time to you, and that's not lip service, I've done that when possible before locally.
In Hedgerows, hawthorne is the primary plant usually (for birds), and then a diverse mix of what thrives locally, sometimes interspersed with trees. They're hard to describe, but they're just a powerhouse of beneficial animals and bugs and plants, besides the wind break and soil erosion offsets. I don't mean that as 'I know best' way, because you're an actual Farmer, I mean that as a just person who grew up around Farms in England that had them and what I was told and saw as kid and my impression of them. It's also one of the differences in West Germany and East Germany farming methods...kinda weird how and where it shows up depending on politics. Just as an example of English hedgerows in the South West of England, this is a video of a fella I know down there riding his motorcycle, kinda impossible to not notice the hedgerows everywhere, along with the odd copse of trees. ua-cam.com/video/GNnBJlIVgw4/v-deo.html

I would like to fix nitrogen and establish a biannual cover crop for the next year to rotational graze.
I graze corn through the winter months in Canada. I’ve found that I can greatly reduce my need for applying nitrogen because of the manure the cattle leave. My thinking is if I utilize the paddock fences for the winter grazing months for summer rotational grazing as well I could add more nutrients reducing dependence on synthetic fertilizers I could also reduce the amount of herbicides needed. If I can get enough of a thatch laid on the ground throughout the summer months
Either way I’m subscribed today because I need to see all that you’ve learned

You graze corn you plant in cover crop mixes or you harvest the corn and then graze the corn stalk?

I’ll graze the corn starting middle of November....., ish kind of depends on the year last year we were able to push it back to December because of a mild early winter

Young Red Angus so I’ll take a complete crop of corn not harvested and turn them into small chunks of it and make them clean it up before putting them into another paddock

Either way I still believe cover crops are the way to go and will be trying them myself in the future when I get an opportunity to farm. Nothing works perfectly or is easy from the start or else everyone would be doing it.
