      It is solid! Could have a beefier frame as stated but it works very well for what I need!

    I've had mine for 3 years. Your review is pretty spot on. My SxS is 50" wide so never caught the wheels or bent the frame but I've LOADED it up with fresh-cut red oak and no problems. High flotation tires are also great on turf.

    I have this trailer also and agree with your conclusions. One thing that can happen is that the latch plate can come loose and the trailer then tips back while you are driving. I use a lock pin to hold the front latch in place while driving now. Also I have read somewhere that if you don't distribute the weight evenly and put too much weight in the back, the force can cause the plastic bucket to fail in front where it is bolted to the frame (those small bolts don't have enough surface area to hold the plastic bucket if there's a lot of force on the back). I have never had this issue.
    Nice video.

      Hey Rick, Sorry for the late reply, I changed the washer underneath to very large fender washers for this reason as I could see the writing on the walls that it could fail! I completely bent and snapped the tongue on this... It was my fault i will show in upcoming video so please subscribe and keep an eye out

    I have to 1500hd tandem axle trailer and I love it! I mounted a 4x4 on the front rack extension with 3 carriage bolts and cut three slits with my saws like you did on your bench in the saw shed works great for me! Only problem I have is the tandem axle will flip over (upside down) when I’m flying back out to get another load empty Have to always check them Before I load up again. Love your videos! My son just bought a used 6048 and we will be hooking it up this spring he watches your videos too!

      Hey Bryant! Thanks for the channel support! Im happy you and your son watch the videos! Wood heat is amazing and I love it indeed! I am going to be modifying this trailer to be the ultimate firewood hauler for sure! Im reinforcing the tongue and going to do something similar to hold all the equipment! This trailer holds a ton of wood and I love it! Thanks for the channel support!

      I just bought a used one with tandem axle. It has road rash on one of the beams between the tires, on the left side, where it flipped the tires. I plan to add a limit strap or bungee to the leading axle on each side. It will still articulate but shouldn't flip.

    When u go to dump it open it and pull away slowly it will all come out , as a cdl driver and dumped tons of loads in numerous things this I learned , so just open and pull ahead slowly 👍🏻

    Great review , if it was me , I would replace the buckled tongue and make it alittle bit longer so if you add the milk crate to the tongue , your 4 wheeler tires won’t hit it when you turn !! Just my thoughts . Have a good one .

    Hello Jay, I would also replace the main tube with something beefier, before triangles reinforcement, and do it with the same box type tubing as not only stiffening, but as a deflection device for when you catch the unsuspecting tree!

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Pat! Yes id deff like to beef up the frame and maybe even slide another section inside that fit tight so its "double walled" if you will but the main thing I do need is some type of deflection for the wheels cause they catch everything LOL!

    Good review. Yes, heavy duty but it won't even attempt to empty. material has to be removed by hand. The other problem is that if you are not on level ground and lift the dump, the dump will swivel around on it's own. Wish I knew before I purchased . Thank You

    I really like my 1200 lb trailer, dump like crap, but I got mine for hauling wood. I want to build some saw holder for the trailer, I bet I have hauled almost 30 full cords in that trailer. I would love to get the second axel for it.

  • @Andyrob323
    @Andyrob323 2 роки тому +1

    I’d say if they redesigned it with more length towards the tongue and less on the rear it would dump better. Or a little more height from the wheels. Other than that, I’m impressed with it

    • @Andyrob323
      @Andyrob323 2 роки тому +1

      And as for the frame, you could get away with putting some 1/4 plate over the spot where it buckled

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Andrew! Yes agree! I think if the trailer was taller and the beaver tail was shorter it would dump better but again I didnt buy it to solely dump material lol I do want to re enforce the frame for sure!

  • @dougdodson7498
    @dougdodson7498 2 роки тому +1

    Might look at taller tires. 4"-6" taller tires would make a big difference when dumping

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  2 роки тому

      Thats what I am potentially going to look into! I think that would help. Pros and cons though higher trailer means lifting logs even higher to get into but also makes it "easier" to restack them. Oh the dilemma rages on!

    Cool vid, Jay. I just subbed you. Hey - Quick question, if you happen to see this. I am looking hard at this dump cart right now. The HD 1500. I want it. But I want to make sure, if possible, that before ordering it, that it will be good for my set-up. I do NOT have an ATV. I have a large Lawn Tractor / Mower. I used to have a Husqvarna, and it was solid. Pretty big mower. But now I have a big one. The bigger tires and wheels, and a 24 HP V-Twin motor. The thing is pretty powerful. Still.... it has a automatic / hydrostatic transmission. So I would NOT be loading this trailer to capacity. But I want that cubic footage. I like the size of this, for limbs and such. Moving material. If I don't load it up with too much weight, do you think I'd be good to go with this, behind my Lawn Tractor / Mower? Thanks in advance, if you see this.
    PS - Great idea on the railing, and the bungee tool straps / welding, etc. Customizing it. Sounds super cool.

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Jimmy. I think it would be fine behind a lawn mower of that size. Again its got a huge capacity but doesnt mean you can fill completly with fresh cut oak or 100 bags of cement lol. I think if you use it appropriately it will be fine. Remeber it may dump but its NOT a dump trailer. It will dump about 30 percent of a load. I am trying to figure out a way to "lock" the dump body down so I can pull away and have the load potentially empty out but still in the works with this! There is deff room to customize so I think you cant go wrong. I enjoy it and it serves the purpose!

      @@HomesteadJay Awesome info! Thank you so much, Jay! I appreciate the info, and I am going to pull the trigger on this. Looks like an awesome cart. I am only worried about the hydrostatic tranny on the mower. So I will definitely not be over-loading it. But as I said.... I love the 22 cubic feet. Limbs are not heavy - but get tangled up, and take up space. I'll doing a lot of that. The bigger stuff.... I'll load in reasonable amounts. Thanks again! I'll be looking forward to more good content from you. Merry Christmas to you and your Family!
