Much love from your African sister ❤... I'm pregnant with twins and when I play pow wow music they go crazy, like they recognize it. My other 2 children love to dance around the living room to indigenous music, and I love exposing them to it. I live in America where the Native roots run as deep as the ocean. It can be felt 🙌🏿

Not being an Native American my spirit guided me here. So much joy and pain, the drum beat of history. The drum tells the story of trust, betrayal, the willingness to share when the intent of the government was to destroy. I am glad these drums can still tell this story of a great people who still survive after the greatest genocide to occur in the history of humanity.

So friggin' beautiful. I've always wanted to see it live and I've been invited by a good friend and his uncle to attend locally but i always feel weird. Like I'm encroaching on something really spiritual that isn't a spectacle. I'm like "does that make me one of THOSE people?" Lol
My ancestors were Scots (celts) and Vikings as far as genealogy says and they're dead cultures. It makes me sad but at the same time it makes me incredibly sad about my ancestors' history with that of these peoples'.
Anyways, not gonna get all weird. But this is amazing and puts a lump in my throat. Honored to get to see it even on a small screen

It's really not necessary to feel like that, especially you are being invited, and from what I understand everyone at pow wows is so friendly and happy that you are there, just be respectful and enjoy yourself, you won't be treated as though you don't belong, because we're all family and we don't treat family members like outsiders

I feel such a deep and sacred connection to this music. I’m African American and of course my lineage is unknown and have no connection to a progenative culture. But I see and feel so many similarities with how black people would sing gospel or blues during enslaved times, only difference is women can lead the “call and response” style of song as well.
My dad is from backwoods South Carolina (his people are from Sampit/Santee area). He swears up and down we have Blackfoot native in our bloodline, but he has no way of proving it.😅
I wish African Americans and natives could team up and unleash vocal power as one. This type of spiritual connection through song and community is normally shown through a lot of our traditional music.

I haven't been to a powwow in years! Seeing this on video can only give you a small idea of what it feels like to be next to these drummers. You will feel it I'm your bones ans the energy can be felt as soon as you enter the circle!
