At long last! The first video in this new series is LIVE! I really hope that you enjoy following along on this journey. It was an incredible experience, and I'm gonna do my best to convey the magic through this series. Videos will be released every Wednesday and Sunday, stay tuned for more and THANK YOU for all your support.
Here we gooooo ! Hope you didn't need that bear spray ! Thanks for taking us along on your ride .... watched that first video during a little lunchtime break on a tour through southern Germany .... shout out to all the pedalists out there ! Kai
Wow! GDMBR is at the very top of my bucket list. Inspiring to see you take this on maybe one day I'll get there ..? I start Lands End to John o Groat's (1000 miles) next week.
Ryan, I just wanted to thank you for helping me take the leap and start my tour. I am a high school dropout, 17, and am searching for direction and purpose. I thought that it would be awfully interesting to ride a bicycle across the U.S., as I have always wanted to the western half of this strange land. Then, while researching, I came across your unbearably beautiful, gorgeous soul that has done this sort of thing in the past. You have been incredibly encouraging. So, I decided to cycle from Midland, Michigan to L.A. Via Route 66. I terminated my apartment lease, gave away most of my possessions, and am currently resting in Grand Haven state park along the coast of Lake Michigan. Thank you so much for being apart of my journey and allowing us to be a part of yours. In these past 5 days on the road, I have learned and grown so much.
Never give up kid. I was just like you when I was 18 . Nothing but desire for adventures. I manage to have a beautiful life, and you will to. Learn to respect yourself and nature. The rest will come.
I am 60 and was stopped in March on a around the world bike trip that I was just starting. Well 5 months in. Everyday you learn new stuff on the road. Your senses become sharp. A mixture of adrenaline when a German shepherd dart at you around a corner, or screaming at the top of your lungs flying down a mountain pass. and the endorphin after hours of cycling in a trance. Remember to keep good intentions. Happy trails Carter.
And thanks Ryan for the video. Seriously, I think that by Monday I will get back on my bike......because of this video.Even if it is a short trip. Thanks man.
Thank you for sharing your story, I commend you for taking the leap, you'll learn a lot out there on the road, and who knows, maybe you'll find your calling. At the very least, you get to experience the beauty of this country on two weeks and that's a gift. Happy trails my friend, and no flatties, whammies or crashies!
Duzer thanks for the latest adventure. I am living vicariously through your adventures as i've had to take a break from the bike, due to a major whammy i took back in June. I wont be able to get back on the mt bike for almost another 8mths (broken neck, over the bars :( )...I vow to heed your call to adventure when i am fully healed..until then I will walk w reckless abandon...Keep up the good work...your inspiring a nation...
Walk with reckless abandon, ha! Love it. Sorry to heart about your accident, sounds rough, but at least you still have your sense of humor ;) I wish you all the best on your recovery.
Wow, Chris. A friend and a colleague of mine took the exact same trip (over the bars) with exact same consequences around the same time as you did. Luckily, he's making a good recovery - which I wish to you too!
Good to see the epic great divide y times like this. I'm from Argentina and here I cannot go outside my city... My legs are asking for mud and dust. Thanks for sharing your experience in so incredible route. Abrazos! 🙌
I was also smiling this whole time watching the start of this adventure, and oh boy!! I can't wait for more! Thank you for sharing this with all of us Ryan! I sure am looking into this awesome bike, I am hesitating between this, a Kona Sutra or a Surly midnight special. Three wonderful bikes, but only one I,ll admit has that pinion gearbox, I'm so TORN!
You're gonna see a whole lot more beauty coming soon! And the bike, well it performed flawlessly, the Pinion and Gates setup is so nice. I'll be making a full review video soon, stay tuned
Honestly, Kona Sutra is probably the best value touring bike on the market right now. But all 3 of the bikes you list are all pretty different things. I like Surly bikes. I have an Ogre and would like a MS. But I wouldn't take a Sutra or MS where this Priority mountain bike would go. A mountain bike with a near indestructible drive train is just difficult to compete with.
Re watching these videos again for preparation for a future ride of the GDMBR for myself. I consider watching one episode a day over my breakfast like my morning adult cartoons. 😂Thank you again for making these and sharing your journey both on and off the bike. Ride on Ryan, ride on
The most anticipated video series of the year, is finally here!!!! Thank you Ryan for taking us with you on this adventure. One can tell how important this is for you, through your emotions in the hotel room... It's a great thing to be brought along with you. We are all so excited to see what your adventure was like!! Thanks.
Just getting into cycling. Been riding my bike a Specialized Rockhopper Sport 29 about 5 times a week for about a month in a half. I never imagined I would enjoy it so much. Can’t get enough of your videos. I feel I can relate. Anyways thanks for the videos and keep them coming.
Fabulous!!!! Lots of horrible, ugly things that many people are dealing with in our country. The beauty in this first video has powerful healing in it. I hope it gets millions of views and settles some souls as it did for me tonight. Thank you, sir.
You are great, man! I mean... Really! You deserve to reach many more subscribers. I'm a light-rider who rides for 30-40 KM daily, and you are really inspiring people to do it more to experience more.
You're a wonderful inspiration. I've been a bike commuter (no car, no license) for nearly two decades. As a young man (i'm 56 now) I used to do organized century rides when I lived in California. But I never did any bike tours. I am about to turn 57 and on my birthday I am heading out for my first week long bike camping tour. Thanks for your part in my motivation. Your videos are a wonderful gift to all of us out here. Peace to you Ryan. Looking forward to watching this series.
So weird: I’m Canadian, from Montreal. My last summer bicycle tour plan was to ride The Great Divide, from Banff to Mexico border. Already have my maps from Aventure cycling Ass. But... but. The plan changed, isn’t it...? I’m glad to watch your tour and have more informations for this bicycle trip I have to postplan. Thank you, Ryan! 🚲🚲🚲
Great! I'll certainly watch the other episodes. I similarly started touring around the same time - in 2006 - & have now completed three extended tours (Which have included your Route 66 & The Lincoln Highway. I've had the GDMBR map set for many years & now looking at doing it, having previously past through them crossing through Rawlins & Flagstaff will be special. Time to rebuild my dis-assembled bike & hit the route! Mark, England.
Been waiting for a while for this adventure to start! Looking forward to seeing more. It’s a great way to motivate me to get on my bike a few times a week👍
Have a great ride! I have a good friend who is on the trail now. She’s 8 days ahead of you. She’s tall, blonde, and 60. Fulfilling a dream. Hope you guys meet. You’ll be doing bigger miles a day than she is so you may catch up with her.
I'm pretty new to bikepacking but have been a backpacker for over 30 years and I know that nervous feeling before a really long hike very well! It is amazing how quickly it goes away as soon as you actually start.
Another great Duzer production!! Not sure where the 2 👎 came from! Some people cannot be pleased! Keep up the good work! And for anyone who isn’t a Patreon of Duzer, get after it! A couple bucks a month can make a big difference! And for content like this, it’s well worth it! Ride on!
I once heard a professional hockey player say "the day I stop getting butterflies in my stomach before stepping on the ice is the day Ill know I need to retire." Embrace those butterflies! Keep on riding Ryan! Good luck!
Thumbs up for this, I am getting addicted to your bikepacking adventures that is made into series and uploaded here in UA-cam 😊.. I'm really enjoying your videos..
I'm literally texting a few buddies about doing Banff to Whitefish next summer (fingers crossed that the Mounties let us across the border by then). Awesome! Looking forward to this series!

Nice start to the BIG adventure, Ryan! I'm looking forward to sharing the journey with you - online, that is. As for what you packed, I remember when I worked at a shop that sold bikes, an English bloke came in one day. He had ridden from Sydney and wanted something fixed on his bike. He said that he was heading to Perth, on the other side of our country AND he was carrying all his kit in a bag on his back! The 'kit' included a transistor radio - and not a small one! - that sat at the top of the back-pack, so he could listen to it, as he rode along. I have no idea whether he made it to Perth.

I remember the moment before I left for a cross-country tour. I shipped my bicycle down to a hotel outside Ft. Lauderdale and flew down. I put the bike all together in the hotel room, took it for a test spin, bought some provisions, and settled in for the night. In the morning, I geared up, packed up, and took one last look over my rig. That feeling of anxiety, concern, uncertainty, I have never felt that much all at once. 3 months later and 4000mi down the road and I made it from South Beach Miami to Mission Beach, San Diego.

My heart broke when John and Mera had to go on their own. I felt the saddness for the next few scenes. This is such a beautiful film. Thank you for sharing this journey. Trully inspiring.

I rode through Montana earlier this month from North Idaho...when I left home I had the same jitters....it was awesome after so many months at home. Cant wait to do the divide with my sister when the Canadian border opens (she lives in Canada)
Lookin good Ryan! Can't wait for more episodes of the Divide! Sidenote, no need to filter water here in Iceland, just drink it straight from the stream... :)
Hi Ryan! Love your videos. I’ve been following you for a couple of years and I think this might be your greatest adventure yet! FYI, please note that the border closure between the USA and Canada is a bilateral agreement between our countries and that Canadians aren’t allowed to go to the USA at this time either. Hopefully it helps in preventing the spread of the virus. Have a wonderful trip!
AWESOMENESS!!! I just spent my lunch break enjoying a bean burrito and watching the first amazing episode of the Great Divide journey. I can hardly wait till Sunday for another episode!! #teamduzer
VERY happy you stuck with the helmet cam for this series! After watching the Tahoe Twirl series I was a bit worried you converted to chest cam but very pleased you went back to helmet cam. Much better views of the beautiful landscape!!!
Ryan, I really enjoyed this. Beautiful scenery. May sound odd, but this video actually kinda soothed me. It was relaxing watching this. 🙂👍. Thank you sir 🙂.
This has to be the most attractive paved, gravel and (likely) dirt ride EVER! So far it appears my recumbent would be awesome for this adventure. So far anyways...More please...and thanks for taking us along Ryan.
Yay! This was worth the wait, with all those lovely dreamy trails and not another soul in sight 😁 Also good to hear it’s not just me who’s a bit nervous before an adventure.
In such an intense time for many of us collectively, your joyful spirit and all the ways you express it is like healing balm! Thank you for shining your light. After watching any one of your videos, I always feel like I not only learn something about cool places to discover, but I feel like I learn something about the finer points of joy, too... like the practice of joy. I used to live on the John Wayne Trail near Cle Elum, WA with the big tunnels there and I always yodeled when I rode or ran through them-- not some lame yodel, but a three-verse yodel song. I sing it when I kayak near amphitheater cliffs too. Hey, if you use your bear spray, be sure to get a new one so that you don't run out mid-way through your second encounter with a bear, okay? I'm sure you'll be fine. I also like to carry a small air horn for boats so I can scare away wildlife if I need to. Yeah, for awhile when there was a cougar in my neighborhood, I packed heat when I ran, but I realized a) I didn't want to live like that; and b) I probably wouldn't see it coming; and c) I probably would be too scared to be a good shot if I needed it in that moment; and d) I really didn't want to kill anything in nature if I could avoid that, so that's when I switched to the mini air horn. I've also scared away a bear in Alaska by singing "Staying Alive" by the BeeGees. Bears hate the BeeGees. Remember that.
Ha! Love it! In the next episode you’ll see me singing to scare away potential bears. Thanks for you kind words, good to know that I have a fellow tunnel noise maker out there!

Sidenote, no need to filter water here in Iceland, just drink it straight from the stream... :)
Oh that sounds nice! There aren't many places in the world where you can drink water from the streams
Thank you for keeping us inspired and for spreading positive vibes through your videos! I cant wait to see them all!
You are so welcome!
Really looking forward to this series Ryan. You do a great job telling the story and capturing the video in a way that takes us along for the ride.
Thanks a ton!
We've been waiting for this and it didn't disappoint for sure. What a beautiful area of the our country. Love the bike. Take care and stay safe, Al
The videos are so well done, loved the scenes, the music, your thoughts, people along the way... So inspiring. Thank you.
Thanks for joining the adventure, I loved sharing it
#teamduzer
That's the perfect way to do it!
VERY happy you stuck with the helmet cam for this series! After watching the Tahoe Twirl series I was a bit worried you converted to chest cam but very pleased you went back to helmet cam. Much better views of the beautiful landscape!!!
Looking forward to the next videos, awesome man, inspiring as always. You make me want to drop everything and just go... 🤘🏼
You should! At least for a few days ;)
We are very glad you are back posting content! My wife and I watch you all time and we really enjoyed part 1 in the series. Look forward to the rest.
Awesome! Thank you! Many more vids to come
Great video. I am following the trip with Google maps. And learning about all the gems of North America.
Good to see new content. Hope your having fun with editing. TV is really dry right now for me. Rode 575 mile in the past 30 days.
That’s a lot of miles, way to go!
Saludos Ryan, excelente video, los paisajes, WOW! Can’t wait for the next one. Take care.
Great episode Ryan. That scenery is truly amazing and we are lucky as Americans to have it available to us to enjoy!
Couldn't agree more!
Nice start . Day one in the books . I hope this series will cover every day of the tour . Thank you Ryan !
It will!
This is my dream too. To be able to ride my bike off road for thousand of miles. Really a great content
Thanks, I'm very fortunate to have done so many big adventures on bike, and I hope to get to experience it too
Ryan, I really enjoyed this. Beautiful scenery. May sound odd, but this video actually kinda soothed me. It was relaxing watching this. 🙂👍. Thank you sir 🙂.
Glad to hear it! More relaxing beauty to come
Beautiful start to the tour Ryan!! DD
Thanks buddy!!
This has to be the most attractive paved, gravel and (likely) dirt ride EVER! So far it appears my recumbent would be awesome for this adventure. So far anyways...More please...and thanks for taking us along Ryan.
Yeah, you could probably ride 80% of this route with no problems, but the other 20 would be rough
What a beautiful start to the journey! Thanks for bringing us along, Ryan.
Need to have a trip across Montana or do a visitors guide. This is some beautiful scenery.
OOOOOOOOOHHhhh BOY!! Here we go, this does look like an epic ride!!
Pleasure watching as always Ryan hello from Scotland 🏴👋
I really need to get to Scotland!! Hopefully next summer

I am following you in this trip all the way to Mexico. I am looking forward to your videos. Enjoy the trip.
Awesome! Thank you!
What a gorgeous route!
It really is!
Very inspiring video! I am looking forward to challenge my self on a bike packing tour😊
You are a treasure and are saving me from going batshit crazy from isolation due to California wildfire smoke and Covid. Gracias!
We've gotten a lot of smoke here too, been nuts the last 10 days. Hope things get better over there
