- Artist, Alfred Wallis was born in Devonport and later lived in St Ives, both towns in Cornwall, UK. Having no artistic training, he began painting at the age of 70. His pictures tell stories of living by the coast and his memories of working at sea.
In this film we explore the artist's work, his use of everyday materials and his final three sketchbooks, which have been acquired by Tate and Kettle's Yard.

Are there any talents you've discovered later in life?
Yes I’m excellent at procrastinating.
So fascinating to hear about Alfred Wallis’ story. Verity is a fantastic presenter
So so interesting, so well told. Excellent.
Reminds me of the work of Canadian artist, Maude Lewis, in its child-like innocence…
Just to think - he was discovered while painting at his kitchen table! It gives a glimmer of hope to anyone creating art (including myself) of being appreciated and discovered at any point, at any age 🚤🌊🧡
Thank you for this great video
forest Bess never heard of him a legend and freaky dude.

i liked the antiquate images.. paintings? naive art. the obsession for primitivism is, sadly, lauding it over all.
The Tate said no to my work).I drew West Berlin not wanky enough.
