- Do you fancy riding the UK leg of the Trans Euro Trail (TET) this summer? Well, you’ve come to right place because Episode Two of the ABR Garage, the podcast from Adventure Bike Rider magazine, is out now and it’s dedicated to exploring the TET in Britain.
Overall, the Trans Euro Trail stretches for more than 30,000 miles across the length and breadth of Europe, including a 2,619-mile section that travels along trails and quieter roads through England Wales.
ABR Bike Tester Julian Challis has explored most of this UK leg so James caught up with him to find out what it takes to ride this sensational route, including what bikes and tyres are suitable to for the TET, what gear to take, where to stay, and which section you should tackle first if you’re new to riding off road.
You can listen to the audio version of the this episode wherever you get your podcasts, including on Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Apple Podcasts.

Great to hear Julian having read his words many times. Full of genuinely useful straightforward advice.
Thanks. We aim to get him back in ABR Garage soon!
I'm pleased you're enjoying the TET. Two new loops have recently ben added - the Tetty Trail in South-West Wales and the Borderlands Trail north from Newcastle.
That''s our first couple of post-lockdown rides sorted then :)
I really enjoyed the discussion but hey guys it's not "off-road" It's "off tarmac" These are all legal roads and require a fully road legal bike and rider, and you can legally ride all these roads.
Good shout John G. We'll give it a mention in the next episode.
@@ABRmagazine Thanks for this ABR. It's a TRF thing which is why we now refer to them as Green Roads We used to call them green lanes and some people thought they could be ridden on unlicenced vehicles or by children on PTWs
Inspirational... I have a set of mates with road bikes and another set with enduro bikes. I’m fortunate to have a Versys 1000 and a Husqvana FE450. The road boys are making noises about doing the NC500 - if we’re ever released - I’ve had in the back of my mind going Kendall to Newcastle or vice versa over a few days.
I’m going to put that out there for my enduro mates now, see if they fancy it.
Great work 👍
Both would be great trips. Let's hope we can get out and explore by bike soon.
Nice vid chaps. Great listen. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Billy, glad you enjoyed it.
Hi guys.
Nice chat about the TET and all of the various sections that can be tackled. I liked the idea of the Bristol to Dover section, being that I'm Berkshire area. I love real long day challenges.... I wonder how much of that is possible in one big hit. 🙂 I better up my fitness. 😄👍
Hi Steve - Julian rode the Bristol to Dover section in four days, although that was with plenty of stops for photos and cakes. If you end up doing it in one day Nick Sanders-style, make sure you let us know how you got on.
@@ABRmagazine Hi guys.... nice to hear from you. If I do ever attempt this I would certainly let you know. 👍
It would be quite an achievement. 🙂👍👋
An excellent guest and subject. Well done.
Thanks for watching.
Nice one J , never seen your garage so tidy mate ! 😂😂😂😂
We're sure it was a different story behind the camera!
Enjoyed this and as euro trips look increasingly hard to access I think this will be this years option
Sounds like a good plan Richard.
did NL/Belgium/France/Italy .. going to ride UK tet may 2022!!!
Great information guys, I’m just starting out, in fact have got the right bike yet !! Would anyone recommend the RE Himalayan, or too heavy ??
Interesting video! Good magazine, too.
Thanks for the good vibes Jonathan.
Can you add timestamps please?
Lack of respect for locals and walkers, tearing up the byways, noise, speeding etc. No redress for this idiotic idea for local people is there?
What a fun guy you are @awkwardprawn9059. 99% of us do respect other green road users. If you don't like to see people having fun doing a legal hobby, don't use the few roads that we can actually use. There is thousands of miles of footpaths for you to enjoy your hobby without having to be near others enjoying their hobby. Please have a lovely day next time you are out enjoying your hobby 😊
