I’ve bought and planted a 1 gallon Baja fairy duster 4x and none have survived. Tried both planting them in situ in native soil and in a pot. What could I be doing wrong? Perhaps fifth time will be the charm. Thank you for your informative videos.
These guys tend to like to grow in very harsh conditions. They like clay soils to retain some moisture (so not a lot of extra potting mixes) - they need good draining soils. And they do not like to get watered very much once they are established. They also like full sun (maybe a little shade from a tree). They do best in direct sun and hot weather. Even though they don't look like it, consider them to be a "desert" plant, and treat it like a mesquite and maybe even a cactus. If you are using potting mix, try something else more dry and drainage-friendly. Good Luck.
@@battlefoxx thanks for the quick reply. I've got plenty of clay and direct sun so will try that on the next go. Probably over watered the others. There are a couple of great established fairy dusters at the San Diego Zoo, they are my inspiration.
