🎉Congrats on 200! 🎉I enjoyed the commentary on this walk. It is a nice area and guessing due to the time of your walk quiet. I like seeing the different architecture and colors of the buildings. Tack Daniel for an enjoyable walk and talk. 😊 Take care my friend!
Wonderful to see and remember. Lived in Gamla stan for about a year, and worked at the Opera house everyday since I was. 8 1/2years old in the ballet school.
I have seen Max during my visits to Stockholm but never went inside. During my next trip to your wonderful city, I will definitely try eating lunch at that rest. at least once. Who knows, I may actually switch to it, from my old favourite, McDo.
Congratulations on your 200th walk. Hope you celebrated by getting a new pair of sneakers - you've earned it. Happy travels and thank you for helping us discover your charming city.
September + October are my 2 favourite months of the year for exploring any city by bus. Already cooled down from summer, yet still mild enough weather that you can get around without wearing an overcoat.
Daniel: Just terrific. :) For we "Americans", we see enough.."concrete structures", block after block after block. New York, Chicago, San Francisco, even Miami, etc. And Stockholm and indeed, some of the islands are just "concrete everywhere". But there is just "something" about these films and they way you present the city that makes it just . . so very relaxing and desirable a place to live or visit. Excellent, as always, Sir. :) Best to you. :) Antoine
Yes, excellent! First Enskede, then for comparison Enschede. I hope he checks out Stureby for it's mix of rental flats, condos, "radhus", "småhus" and villas! Now, to capture all that it takes a Long walk... Maybe for His 300th!
2:25 to the left we see the building in which there used to be a bank on the bottom floor, Kreditbanken. In said bank a robbery occured in late August 1973, eventually leading to a hostage situation. The "Stockholm syndrome" was later coined to describe a situation where victims over time gradually take sides with perpetrators who initially were responsible for victimizing them. Which was what happened that time 48 years ago. Simultaneously to the drama the old king Gustav VI Adolf was dying at a hospital. The public service news desks worked 24/7 for a couple of weeks. And the Swedes were glued by their television sets.
@@DikWhiteYeah, me too. She herself claimed that they never actually sided with the robbers, and that the professor of psychology who wrote a book on the events eventually leading to the coining of the phrase, totally misinterpreted what actually went down. But she was critical to how the authorities handled the situation, putting the hostage at great risk. The prime minister Olof Palme spoke to her over the phone during the occurance, and she gave him a good bashing! I have no recollection of how the hostage was affected long term though.
Thank you for mentioning public transportation to get around in Stockholm and not the infamous e-scooter that are laying around everywhere. Nice trip report Daniel. 👍
Great walk as usual. Your descriptions add a lot of value as well. Btw, SUFFRAGE just means right to vote. Among the Nordic countries, Sweden was the last one that allowed women to vote. And this was in 1921. So 2021 is the centennial year. Sweden has come a long way since that time. Probably the most pro feminist country in the world today. The percentage of self identifying feminists are also apparently incredibly high in Sweden.
Stallbron basically means stable bridge (as in stable, barn, house for horses ;P). Steel is "stål", and would have been Stålbron in that case. Love your channel btw! Cures my homesickness once in a while when needed :)
If you pay attention you'll notice that Swedes pretty much avoid eye contact. Among the Scandinavian countries this one has a profile of being aloof, reserved, introverted and so on. Probably the opposite of the Italians. I lived there for 4 years and found the people to be kind, very smart, very rational and compassionate...yet also very cool and distant, but not in a really negative way.

Grats on 200, Daniel! I don't know what you're doing, but you sure seem to know! It seems your stuff is appealing to both Stockholmers and to people from all of the world at the same time. I many times feel like a tourist in my own home town coming along! Maybe it's opting to focus on the experience over highlighting the "me". A counter action to the spirit of our time of which an increasing number of people may feel a tad bit fatigued? Proost broer!

Actually "Clock" burgers was the first Swedish answer and competition to McDonald's long ago, and Max burger chain didn't exist until about 25 years later. But yeah, Swedish versions of everything is better.
Are you sure? Not saying that you are wrong, but I had my first burger at Carrol's on Kungsgatan right next to Hötorget, a chain later aquisited by Clock. I think my premiere was back in 1972. Could be wrong though...
