It was bad enough standing out for positivity amidst the grunge era, and yet they got tons of flak from fans when Transistor came out. "Too processed to be 311" and whatnot... fucking 311 never made music that was studio only. I don't know anyone else that sells live recordings the way 311 does and it's because they fucking bring it HARD to every live performance.
I remember showing up late to the skating rink and instead of spending the money to get inside I walked into the Blockbuster video and they had just started selling music CDs I didn't even know 311 had just released a new CD but I seen transistor sitting on the shelf. from that night forward I fell in love with that CD..... I was about 15 or 16 years old then I'm 39 now...... I still listen to it all the time.
Man this brings me back... Transistor was THE album for me heading into my freshman year of college. I listened to it non-stop for a year straight. To think about how long ago that was, and to hear how they can still absolutely NAIL these songs live is INCREDIBLE. I'll never be able to properly thank 311 for being part of the soundtrack of my life, but I'll always be grateful!
Well said, NovaHands! Yo Transistor was what got me into 311, circa 1998! I was a sophomore in High School. AMAZING that this incredible band is still rocking just as hard, if not harder all these years later, and staying POSITIVE AND LOVING THEIR LIVES.
Ya know...I cant tell you how many times ive listened to these songs, and this album. The solo in USE OF TIME has always moved me in one way or another. But, for the first time this morning...this solo in USE OF TIME brought me to tears; especially in watching Tims emotion during the solo. Just mind blowing!!!
Same!! I just saw 311 in concert a few days ago, and have been revisiting all my old favorites. I forgot this was my favorite song from 20 years ago and now I'm sitting here crying.
So you just right off got the best band ever in their best era... I'm kinda jealous. But hey at least my first concert had Faith No More, that was pretty *epic* too 😎
"Confusing use of time Can you hear the void I describe What could I say vacancy sounds like Confusing use of time" Transistor is a masterpiece. One of my favorite albums for sure. 🎸🤙
5:45 such a fucking sick solo. We are so blessed that this insane group of people has stuck together for us. This never happens. It takes a humble lead guitarist, and lead singer
"Stay Positive & Love Your Life" is a sign I want to have on my office wall. Been listening to 311 since 1998. This live version of Use of Time is so on point, too. Words cannot express how much I love this band. They have gotten me through so much in this life of mine. Chad, S.A., NixHex, P-Nutty Buddy, and Tim. Thank you guys, so much, from the depths of my heart. We love you! Peace and good vibes.
As a guitarist for the majority of my life, I remember reading Guitar World magazine back in the day and being stoked when Tim got an honorable mention in some type of Best Solo of the Year list for one of the solos in the song. . I was like ‘Bout fuckin time!!!!’
So many insane memories from back then and this album was ALWAYS played AT LEAST twice EVERY day... 311 will always have a special place in my heart AND mind...
The Transistor album holds up, always. Basically all up to Evolver do but this one in particular... I know nostalgia has it's part in why i love it so much but then again, i don't love all the same music i did back then. I truly think it's one of the unsung 90s classics, i'm sad if it keeps on being unnoticed by the majority of music fans. But i will keep on singing its praise 🤘
I was 15 in 1996 when I first heard this band 311 that No one had heard much of. Have been infatuated ever since. They keep finding new ways to make different music. So much love
One of my faves of all time still going strong. This band has never left my top 10 in the 27 years I've been listening to them. Love the transition between the two songs too. They fit together so well.
Seeing 311 at Red Rocks is a huge bucket list item for me. I've been rocking to these guys since the Live album came out in 1998. Only seen them live twice but both shows were epic! Tim will always be one of my favourite guitarists. WAY underrated IMHO.
Their underated! I've always loved their sound. They don't sound like no one else, and no one else sounds like them. I'm smoking a bowl and watching this. I tell you the best music came out of the 90s.
I remember waiting for the record store guy to open up the shop for me for me to cop this album. I must have been 12 or 13 years old. Yeah, I said record store. Makes me feel old. Front to back my favorite from them.
I started with the blue album. Went backwards to Music and Grassroots. OMG those were amazing albums, but something about Transistor just feels like the cominging together. Tim Mahoney is just killer on this album. P-Nut has more than ample opportunity on a lot of songs to show his skills. My god Chad Sexton just killing it on every song! Thank you Nick and S.A for bringing in some lyrics to round out the most amazing album I have on vinyl.
311 concerts back when I was a spry 15-16 yr old. Some of the best memories of my youth. Thank you for producing some good tunes in a modern day dysphoria.
Wow, the last time I set eyes on these guys was at their concert at UCF in Orlando in 2001 where they surprised me by pushing Use of Time. They sounded awesome then and now! It's so great to see that young or slightly older, these guys look and SOUND fantastic.
How did I not know about this stream. I'm a die-hard fan and this is one of my favorite songs by 311. I'm actually requesting that it be played at my funeral one day. Beautiful. It would be cool if they threw some reverb on SA's part like it sounded on the album. 311 fo life baby!
That snare hit pattern, i have always hit the left side of my snare around the 10 o clock position. Hit is crushing around the 5 o clock position. I never tried hitting the snare in that spot.
105.9 the Lazer had a launch party on the radio when it was released and they played the whole album start to finish. I was a casual 311 fan until heard Transistor. These tracks stood out to me but the whole album was and is amazing. Still one of my all time favorites. Turned a few friends onto it as well.
Beautiful, LOVE IT, Transistor will always hold a special place in my heart... the essence of my teenage years. Never gets old, still rockin' this shit on the regular. ♥
I had forgotten about these two tracks, been a 311 fan since '92 when I found the Grassroots cassette in my friend car and he let me take it, hooked on them since 🤘🤘
My friend that’s a spot on review. It’s got 21 tracks and I love all 21. A ten track that all tracks are bangin is a feat in itself, this is a classic album among other classics such as we sold our soul for Rock n roll from sabbath
Nicky Hex looking at that camera with wide eyes like it's '96. They like that in their fucking camera. Tim's so buzzed, you can hear it! Tight drumming from Sexton the rhythm-"atic" genius, as always.
If there’s one thing it’s definitely Mahony is meditating spiritual like he is transcending more than I can see and the other guys. I want to transcend like this guy
Possibly my favorite album of all-time: Transistor is a masterpiece.
Same brotha!
It was bad enough standing out for positivity amidst the grunge era, and yet they got tons of flak from fans when Transistor came out. "Too processed to be 311" and whatnot... fucking 311 never made music that was studio only. Could be my all time favorite also, at least in top 3. If anything beats it, one of the Jane's Addiction classics that's it.
@@sdoijhadaoskdjfasokd that’s the truth, they’ve alway stood up for positivity and unity in a sea of negativity and angst.
Correct
I remember listening to this when I was 15... 25 years ago.
Yup, summer 97
was jamming as a 15 year old 15 years ago too
Same!
Yep
Same here! This was what made my younger years tolerable. The reason why I love life....
Man, this performance of Use of Time is absolutely on point. Fucking sick!
HOPE YOURE HAVING A GOOD DAY BUDDY
I remember showing up late to the skating rink and instead of spending the money to get inside I walked into the Blockbuster video and they had just started selling music CDs

It is timeless!
I remember they used to rent out game systems too blockbuster was awesome
That’s fucking epic! I’m 24 right now. On a mission 2 keep this album alive🤣
Sending Love and good Fortune ur way! ❤️🔥

You put it in to words beautifully!! I’m going into my freshman year of college now. So excited that it’s now my turn to experience 311 growing up lol
@@kd9765 we pass the torch in 15 years to you to tell the youngins in college then lol
Couldn’t have said it better brother.
Well said, NovaHands! Yo Transistor was what got me into 311, circa 1998! I was a sophomore in High School. AMAZING that this incredible band is still rocking just as hard, if not harder all these years later, and staying POSITIVE AND LOVING THEIR LIVES.
Best comment here. I'm right there with ya with graduating high school in 1997 :)
Use of Time puts me in a trance.

Beautiful ain't it?
I get goose bumps every time i hear it. Been that way for 20 + years...
Stay positive and love your life ♥️
311's Transistor tour was my 1st rock concert. Epicness
So you just right off got the best band ever in their best era... I'm kinda jealous. But hey at least my first concert had Faith No More, that was pretty *epic* too 😎
Jupiter is a masterpiece
"Confusing use of time

Confusing use of time" Transistor is a masterpiece. One of my favorite albums for sure. 🎸🤙
OMfg man. I just can't with these guys. Its too perfect. it's too emotional. I'm here for it. All of it.
Timeless element they brought to this performance

311 is amazing… however, we must give props to the sound engineer on this stream… superb!!
Transition to my favorite song, I love it 😊
311's best album by far. This is easily my favorite song as well
So many insane memories from back then and this album was ALWAYS played AT LEAST twice EVERY day... 311 will always have a special place in my heart AND mind...
Love this song, Tim was kicking ass on the guitar! 5:45

311 one of those bands that only comes around every 500,000 years. You can't tell me aliens didn't come to hear this
I was 15 in 1996 when I first heard this band 311 that No one had heard much of. Have been infatuated ever since. They keep finding new ways to make different music. So much love
omg this the perfect combo. Use of Time is my favorite 311 song all time! THank you!
Turn the bass up!
Lost my dad in 2017. First song, randomly, on my car radio was Use of Time. Wowsers.
One of my faves of all time still going strong. This band has never left my top 10 in the 27 years I've been listening to them. Love the transition between the two songs too. They fit together so well.
Tim Mahoney is the Truth.
I love both of these songs. Use of Time is pitch perfect.
That riff at the end gives me goosebumps everytime! 🤘
"One thing I've got to say before sales dive; stay positive and love your life."
Fuuuuck

I’m 52 and I’ve loved this album since it dropped esp this song
Ohhh love 311 full energy 🙌🙏Perú los espera ✌️🤘
Amazing. Been a for over 20 years and they sound just as well.

Use of time is just a ridiculously sick song.
You all look hotter than ever! Nick aged like fine wine 🍷 so handsome!
Mmmhmm 😍🔥
I remember korn and 311 at Palo Alto one step beyond club same night. Got to meet both band members.
Lead singer still rocking the looks and so as everyone else
This needs to happen more often
Love the guitar solo in this song - so good.
A prime example of someone taking good care of their voice.🤘✌️
Nobody does it like 311 ❤
Use of Time is the one song I always wanted to see them play live, but they never did (at the 4 shows I attended).
I got see it ... Only seen them twice
5:43 AMAZING
Amazing! Got my transistor face mask and single tube tee from this event.
Love that Cmaj7 Emaj chords in use of time. Also the solos are badass
Favorite band ever! Thank you guys!!
I wore the hell out of this CD.
Nicky Hex looking at that camera with wide eyes like it's '96. They like that in their fucking camera. Tim's so buzzed, you can hear it! Tight drumming from Sexton the rhythm-"atic" genius, as always.
I love you guys.
Mantente positivo y ama tu vida.. !
my favorite album too, it's their sgt pepper (which people didn't like much when it came out either).
I feel like nick is stealing my soul here lol his eyes staring is funny lol
Tim Mahoney, listen to the intro/title screen of robocop 3 on NES. Around 6:15 you had that vibe.
love this song!!
Tonight is the night let's go 311 day is here
Estos tipos son los mejores
Stay positive & love your life.
311 2021 YEAH
311s singers are equivalent to the duo serj tankian and Daron malakian! Just amazing
Mahoney's tone is so raw
If there’s one thing it’s definitely Mahony is meditating spiritual like he is transcending more than I can see and the other guys. I want to transcend like this guy
Use of Time..the best song on their best album 🤘
Running
Hexum is such a god.
Ohhhh yeahhhhhhh....
That was very good!
Nick is just as hot as an older dude! I used to love seeing these boys up close back in the day. Way back in the day lol
de ptm!
Lose the mask
Love Love Love
I fuckin love 311 so much
the deep snare with the mid high ring isn't working, need to bring back the thin sounding piccolo with the amber and champagne ring
This is soooo good 😎
does anyone has the full live concert and from chaos stream too? i couldn't watch because i had to work. 😔
I have all of Transistor and will put out more tracks after the tour starts. I missed From Chaos also unfortunately
Lol I never noticed how on the Tranistor album cover inside the lightbulbs there's little guys meditating.
Still got it
