I don't worry about oil reaching the smoke point as I eat oil in the form of nuts such as walnuts, seeds such as squash-pumpkin seeds, sesame, edamame, and peanuts. I also eat avocados, including using it as a spread of flatbreads or tortillas, rather than using butter or margarine. I also sometimes add small amounts of oil to cooked foods. In all cases of cooking, the nuts, seeds, or oil, they are heated either in water, or in the water used to steam vegetables. So surrounded by water, they should never reach a temperature that is much higher that the boiling point of water. I have peripheral neuropathy anyway.
Perhaps your peripheral neuropathy has a mechanical cause, like a muscular nerve entrapment. The body is full of those. Thoracic outlet syndrome, Pronator Teres syndrome entrap the same nerve and produce the same symptoms as carpal tunnel syndrome for example.
Excellent job with acquiring good healthy oils. There are many different causes of PN. When you have a chance, you may want to watch our videos: What is Peripheral Neuropathy and Conquering Peripheral Neuropathy. These 2 videos will review quite a few different causes.
@@NerveDoctors It started before I began being so careful with my oils but it has slowly gotten worse anyway. I do have a diagnosis of moderate atherosclerosis, which is the main reason I drastically cut down on how much oil i eat about 3 years ago. I also have a diagnosis of some kind of vascular disorder whose name I know but can't pull up from the gel-state drive in my cranium at the moment. The name of the disorder It's in one of the folder there, somewhere. I may have to look in the hard drive on my computer to pull up the name. Since investing an a microcomputer 40 years ago I've become increasingly unsure which is the primary drive and which is the backup drive.
Have you ever had micronutrient testing? Maybe you are low in your B6 or B12? Are you diabetic? Do you smoke? There are many different reasons someone has peripheral neuropathy.

My suggestions: 1) Do a video on peptides for neuropathy and mito repair. Ara 290 and nvg 291 are some to look at. 2) Would also have an idea that researching Chinese, Russian, and Cuban medicine, which is closed to the world, might give results. Most of the medicine is NHS or WHO-controlled, in other words, big pharma controlled, but there are countries that are still not under their influence and might have better treatments to offer. 3) Research into ancient cultures and their herbs that are not ordinary to western cultures. Keep a good work!

Sometimes it sounds magical, the way some of these videos are touting things like olive oils, etc. Costing 30 dollars or more for a small bottle, I decided I don't Really need it. It may be great for some, but you can also get allergies also from it! The same goes for flaxseed oil. I've heard that flaxseed powder could be better than the oil. Your body actually does need good omega 6 oil also. Thanks.
Thanks a million for educating us on the oils i really appreciate it i learnt a lot. Will definitely give the oils a try. This is way better than taking medication
Great question! This can be very difficult and can also be very subjective. You're best bet is to go by the harvest date on the bottle. If the bottle doesn't have a harvest date, put it back on the shelf and look for another brand.
You raise a good point, however since smell is very subjective many times, it’s very difficult, in my humble opinion, to describe what rancidity smell like. I can’t think of any thing to compare it to. I would not keep any oil longer than 3-4 months on the shelf. Refrigerating the oil will buy you about an additional month of freshness.
What if you dont cook with them? I use olive oil, coconut oil and butter. Olive oil I do cook mushrooms and onions in. Coconut oil I mix with olive oil to quickly cook greens. Butter I use for toast or baked potatoes only.

Hi Elisha Shalom, Coconut oil is great, as it has many properties that can help peripheral nerves, however, as many know too much of anything can be a bad thing! Having too much can cause LPS waste products. To offset this if you love coconut oil, we recommend taking vitamin D and glutamine in order to help mitigate the excess LPS waste. Also, don't forget to make sure it is virgin! If you'd like to switch EVOO is a great choice. I hope this helps!
I bought a seemingly wonderful evoo at Whole Foods. Touted as "USDA Organic Extra Virgin, First cold pressed". I took a spoonful of it right after opening it and it was rancid and disgusting. The brand is Carapelli.
You need to have somebody else taste your oil. Someone who is familiar with the real olive oil, like native Italians or other native Europeans. Most Americans have no idea how the real stuff is supposed to smell and taste. Good quality olive oil is scratchy in your throat and it tastes bitter. We hated it as kids. We hated black olives as well. We liked sunflower seed oil only because it tastes like nothing at all. Our family got a big can of the real olio vergine from an olive farmer. They were so proud to have this connection. The real stuff, they said and they made us try very often. Finally we kids got used to olive oil and the taste of black olives. Now I love it very much. Just eat it with bread or put it on pizza. Eat olive oil and fresh garlic with spaghetti. Delicious. There is such a big difference in olive oils, some are mild, some are strong. Depends on the olives. Different kinds. It is like good quality wine, you need to know about it.

Same thing happened to me many years ago. It did finally go away. Hope you start feeling better soon!
In south India till 80's coconut oil and ground nut oil was used before refined oils comes to market, 90 starts heart and diabetic problems
They used to be called Western or "Rich country" diseases. Of course they are not diseases at all. Just conditions caused by toxic metabolites of modern oils damaging mitochondria and oxidizing cholestetol.
What is ground nut?
@@doroparker1702 peanuts (Ground nut) as it grows under the ground. The oil that is extracted in delicious. I don't know why it got a bad rap. Generations of people used it for cooking here in South India till the 80s.
Peanut oil is poly unsaturated oil and turns rancid with age. So we did not use it for frying snacks, instead used coconut oil, a saturated HEALTHY oil.@@felixroyan6615
Thanks po Dr. John Coppola🙏🙏 ( po in the Philippine is a respectful word given to someone)
Thanks for your reply I have learnt from you. Nerves in my legs bothersome
Have you ever had micronutrient testing? Maybe you are low in your B6 or B12? Are you diabetic? Do you smoke? There are many different reasons someone has peripheral neuropathy.
This was a fabulous video I am so happy that I tuned into it. Thank you so much for all the information that you gave to us. I have never heard this information anywhere and I feel so thankful since I have just had hip replacement surgery and have a lot of neuropathy along the outside edge of my thigh. That's the only reason I would have found your Channel. I have learned so much and I'm going to pass it on to so many people thank you so much and may God bless you for giving that to us it is so important
My suggestions:
1) Do a video on peptides for neuropathy and mito repair.

Excellent suggestion. Thank you. We most certainly will add this to our list of videos to film.
What about bpc 157?
Thank you so much dr. For your true advice I will use the avocado oil and try some of the others thanks for true advice have a great day 👍🙏
Thank you so much for this info. We've been using extra virgin olive oil but been getting the cheaper brand which is yellow. Good to know it should be green and in a dark bottle. Will be watching more carefully. We've been buying grass fed butter but don't know if Ghee is better than that?
Ghee is better!
I use avocado, ghee, lard, walnut for cooking. I use coconut, hemp, flax, black seed added to smoothies, broths, sauces and mixed in uncooked dishes. That's all I use.
I really appreciate your professional presentation with studies and stats. The only problem is being very interested in the best health products but knowing they are not affordable for me or a whole host of others.
Thank you for saying this! The Good supplements usually are a little more expensive, but since there is so much competition now, you can also find a lot of good buys once in a while. This is heart-renching for me also because I have a lot of medical problems, and low income. You can also use natural foods that are healthy to get nutrients you need with out buying the expensive and sometimes not so good supplements in stores, as I've found out! 😉
@@nca1952 Thanks for these reminders. Good to keep alert and keep positive and I agree about using foods too. The best to you.

HI Dr. We cook with macadamia oil. What is your experience on this?
Very informative and helps us to choose carefully because so many cooking oil in the shops lack information to choose thank you Doctor.
Try drinking 50ml of pawpaw leaf tea or 1tablesp of the blended juice
You can also decide to use chanca piedra tea, a sip twice a day instead
You can consider drinking bitter leaf tea and or eating the stew.l know these extracts and teas are very good though you mustn't forget seeing a doctor
Cut down down on wheat products e g bread
U didn't mention grapeseed oil, which I have been using for over 20 years. The best organic, cold pressed is produced in Chico, Ca. I'm glad u did mention the problem with oil and insulin resistance. I saw a new endocrinologist yesterday and he told me "no more oils", of course he also said no more meat, eggs, or butter. Ugh.
We never recommend grapeseed oil as it is primarily omega six and pro-inflammatory. I would recommend you watch our video on Can These oils kill you.
@@NerveDoctors I use nothing but Organic cold pressed, first pressed olive oil from California. I cringe when I see people using Canola oil.
And many feeding tube foods have canola oil
@@goldenmare2594 poison oil
The only seed oil i use is cold pressed organic linseed oil from a trusted local manufactor here in Denmark. It cost 40 usd a liter but i would never use any cheap seed oil, if i can avoid it.

Spot on - this corroborates my understanding from various sources
Great info & thank you for your expert guidance in choosing oil we use in daily use.Thank you God bless!
Doc, is there any strong health benefit to macadamia nut oil?
This is new 4 me. Ive been suffering with nerve pain go ing on 2 months now. Cant see a neurologist until Nov. Ive leaned so much from you thus far. I've been to a podiatrist and had tests on my veins. All to no avail. The only solution so far is a script for gabapentin. I see i need to edicate myself as i embark on this unwanted journey. Im 66 years old and am not enjoying my life as i suffer daily. For myself i know that this was self inflicted. Im sober from alcohol 1 and a half years now. Im hoping to be free from this hell I'm in thru the knowledge and tools you've imparted on this channel. Keep helping people like myself because you're greatly appreciated.

A farmer in Spain once said, they don't blend their oil with other countries or add different oils to cut the real olive oil, but they do sell their olive oil to other countries where it gets blended, but they also export to the US in their own bottles unblended.

Vested interests towards olive oil can be sensed in this video. Ghee from A2 sources is the best followed by coconut oil and olive oil.

EXCELLENT!!
Thanks.

You could mention how we can tell if an oil is too old to use. Off smell? Off color? A year on the shelf? Which good for you oil can I store?
These are great questions I also like to know- which are best for storing?
Great question! This can be very difficult and can also be very subjective. You're best bet is to go by the harvest date on the bottle. If the bottle doesn't have a harvest date, put it back on the shelf and look for another brand.
You raise a good point, however since smell is very subjective many times, it’s very difficult, in my humble opinion, to describe what rancidity smell like. I can’t think of any thing to compare it to. I would not keep any oil longer than 3-4 months on the shelf. Refrigerating the oil will buy you about an additional month of freshness.
I’m on board. I use olive, sesame and coconut oil for cooking, only
Thanks Doctor, appreciate the information, so happy to know this 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thanks so much for this vid. So, are the 4 oils listed here ( olive, ghee, coconut, & avocado ) better for PN in my hands than the saturated fats in fatty meats, bacon, lard, tallow etc ?? I've been eating a mostly meat (carnivore) diet for over a year now but still have the neuropathy problem in my hands. I'm also trying ALA, B1, B6, zinc, etc but no real major help from them it seems. I'm a 65 yo male. What would you recommend?

Here we go again. Great advice IF you have access to any of these fancy oils, and IF you are able to afford them. I've never seen cultured oil, ghee or avocado oil in any shop near me, coconut oil is expensive, and even the ordinary olive oil I use is an exorbitant price these days.

What about Coconut oil..the best?
Hi Elisha Shalom,
Coconut oil is great, as it has many properties that can help peripheral nerves, however, as many know too much of anything can be a bad thing!

Ohh wow I hope it wasn't expired!
Yeah, that's an Aldi brand. I don't even touch Carapelli. From what he described, it doesn't even look the way its supposed to.
