Hi Del & Penny, Enjoyable video! Move any mountain bracket! Should have been on that white board at your place, gonna get me coat and check the lathe video I've not seen it yet! Love and respect Warren
Cheers buddy, I like that, I spend most of the time when I'm filming in the garage doing manual stuff like filing and drilling trying to think of a song lyric, didn't think of that one lol !
Good work Del, looks great. One thing to watch for is you should cover your lathe up while not in use, any amount of grinding dust that gets stuck in your ways or slides will chew them up over time. An old towel works well as this tends to stop condensation forming on it too which will prevent rust forming. Enjoy it and stay safe :)
Why not simply fix the number plate bracket directly to the fibreglass, which you say is enormously thick? You can use brolley anchors or the special Rivnut fibreglass fixings. Adding another bracket just adds weight and provides yet another joint to fail and will be no stronger than fixing the tail tidy direct. Also, bending the bracket to the required angle is hardly a chore.
As one who has recently (last few months) come to your channel I have been enjoying following you various projects from the early builds (inc the trailer which I thought was fab!!), I have to say although it is quite a small part this is one of my favourites, that is one really tidy & beautiful piece of engineering! Personally I wouldn't cut that 25mm hole since that is where the bend might go if needed & also would cross the point where it meets the tail piece making a breach which would allow water etc into the space beyond! Whatever you do though, keep up the great work and many thanks for sharing this stuff with us all!! :) Regards, Dave (of Dave's Project Corner (youtube channel) up here in the sunny Lakes!). ;)
Hi Dave, good to hear from you, and thanks so much for your kind words mate, it's really cool to inspire a new subscriber and thanks so much for your kind feedback, glad you enjoy the videos, will check out channel too! Stay in touch, all the best, Del
Del, when I first saw 'fighter build' tittle I thought not my thing, then way back I watched one. Now I love the vlogs, rivetted infact!! Your approach to problems and your solutions are very good. I'm loving this series.
Thanks Nicholas, that's very kind, I myself follow car builds and even a guy who makes clocks, I don't see that then genre is that important if the quality of the videos is good and it's also interesting to watch... appreciate your support, welcome aboard!
Thanks buddy, ill hope to have it in paint by next weekend, but for this coming Saturday im gonna make my first ever Lathe project.. just a little single video job to ge used to the machine.. then back to the build.. i want to see that all black walk round myself too..
I learned quite a lot from your links in response to mine on the previous video! Who knew Grobet were such great files. I have a small set on the way from Fleabay. Also, Smithy Industries has a lathe/milling machince/drill press combo in one machine. Who knew such a thing existed! As you probably know, there are several videos on UA-cam on turning a drill press into a milling machine. Among other things, this video taught me that a horizontal band saw can have an attachment to use it as a vertical one. Again, who knew! Keep up the great work!
I love that we all can see all the fabrication that you do on this Beast and your skill level went so hi Delboy can't wait for next video ride safe my friend
One thing to set things in place before fiberglass work is filler as in easy sand body filler, obviously plenty of harderner so it's a bit punky, then hold it for about 2mins and done. Solid enough to start chucking your strand matt over
Lovely looking bracket and a good idea of how to mount it. You are doing a fantastic job Del, you sound a little uncertain about this. Have a bit more faith in yourself, the idea is sound and so are the materials you are using. Nice piece of craftsmanship making that bracket.
Thank you Andy, just making sure im getting the best result i can, there is always a better way to do a job if you have enough time and materials.. I love making the metal parts, its such a great feeling to create things from raw materials aye... Thanks for your kind words mate..
Thanks Mike, well you know where it all started sat here helping me out with it... i guess practice makes you better aye..! Thanks for your kind words and support brother... We hope you and Melly are both well and enjoying life.. Miss you both lots and lets catch up soon aye... Say hi to Chris from us too... D&Px
Oo, careful with the rotary 'ghetto' file, those things snap like carrots & you don't want to fall across a razor sharp pointy spinny thing that's just shed it's tail in a fit of torque & gone all random. (If you must, used a short piece from 'one you broke earlier' : ) x
@@Nitroturbohead No problem! come via the Pacific and across South America, that way the world's turning the other way so you'll arrive the same time you left lol
Apparently not any more Mack , obviously if it's there it has to work, but like indicators, on a pre-1985 bike if they're not fitted at all, then that's fine...
The issue with the bracket will be the wind / water loading on the number plate which will stress the fiberglass over time. I guess you'll find out when you ride it.

Nice tail tidy del interested to see what you use for number plate light too 👍 loved the butter fingers moment 😂😂😂 keep on making this bike awsome 🏍️👍🏍️
Thanks buddy, close moment there, hard edged steel item, dropped close to fresh paint work.. makes you giggle with nerves..lol No number plate light needed now either, so it'll go on as it is..!
I've used gorilla glue before to fix my dogs harness, worked great for ages until I tried to show someone how strong it was and pulled the fix apart lol Nice tail tidy though and I'm sure the epoxy resin is better that their glue :)
Hi buddy, the glue itself is an epoxy, but every glue has it's limits! I will be fibre glassing the bracket in place, burying it completely under 1/4" of matting and resin, meaning that I will, eventually, have two re-infornced captive threads that I can winch the bike up by, the glue here is just to hold it till I fibre glass it !
The gorilla product you used is different to their glue I used, it looks that way anyway and the one I used is probably fine for most things, not sure why it failed on me. I wet the surface as the glue reacts to it and held it under pressure for 24 hours as the directions suggested too, using G-clamps and cardboard to stop the clamp sticking. I'm sure it will be fine without the fibre glass but don't blame you using it to make sure.

Not sure on the precise chapter and verse buddy, but believe currently it needs to be in an upright position in the centre of the bike and clearly visible from the rear !
Sweet work, Del! Does the MOT there allow number plates attached sideways attached to the swing arm area? I see that a lot here in the states on custom bikes. Reason I ask is I wonder whether you future exhaust routing will still fit under the seat now? 🏍👍🏍
Hi Gary.. no, sadly not any more.. in recent time the rules have been clamped down on.. a lot of "side mount' plates started appearing on 'Bobbers' and custom brat style bikes.. but it was never really correct.. the plate must be on the rear of the bike in an upright position.. you know how it is, a lot of what you see is people pushing their luck.
