    Good work Del, looks great.
    One thing to watch for is you should cover your lathe up while not in use, any amount of grinding dust that gets stuck in your ways or slides will chew them up over time. An old towel works well as this tends to stop condensation forming on it too which will prevent rust forming. Enjoy it and stay safe :)

    Why not simply fix the number plate bracket directly to the fibreglass, which you say is enormously thick? You can use brolley anchors or the special Rivnut fibreglass fixings. Adding another bracket just adds weight and provides yet another joint to fail and will be no stronger than fixing the tail tidy direct. Also, bending the bracket to the required angle is hardly a chore.

    As one who has recently (last few months) come to your channel I have been enjoying following you various projects from the early builds (inc the trailer which I thought was fab!!), I have to say although it is quite a small part this is one of my favourites, that is one really tidy & beautiful piece of engineering! Personally I wouldn't cut that 25mm hole since that is where the bend might go if needed & also would cross the point where it meets the tail piece making a breach which would allow water etc into the space beyond! Whatever you do though, keep up the great work and many thanks for sharing this stuff with us all!! :)
    Regards, Dave (of Dave's Project Corner (youtube channel) up here in the sunny Lakes!). ;)

    I learned quite a lot from your links in response to mine on the previous video! Who knew Grobet were such great files. I have a small set on the way from Fleabay. Also, Smithy Industries has a lathe/milling machince/drill press combo in one machine. Who knew such a thing existed! As you probably know, there are several videos on UA-cam on turning a drill press into a milling machine. Among other things, this video taught me that a horizontal band saw can have an attachment to use it as a vertical one. Again, who knew! Keep up the great work!

    The issue with the bracket will be the wind / water loading on the number plate which will stress the fiberglass over time. I guess you'll find out when you ride it.

    I've used gorilla glue before to fix my dogs harness, worked great for ages until I tried to show someone how strong it was and pulled the fix apart lol Nice tail tidy though and I'm sure the epoxy resin is better that their glue :)

    • @Moonfleet41
      @Moonfleet41  6 років тому

      Hi buddy, the glue itself is an epoxy, but every glue has it's limits! I will be fibre glassing the bracket in place, burying it completely under 1/4" of matting and resin, meaning that I will, eventually, have two re-infornced captive threads that I can winch the bike up by, the glue here is just to hold it till I fibre glass it !

    • @HalfdeadRider
      @HalfdeadRider 6 років тому

      The gorilla product you used is different to their glue I used, it looks that way anyway and the one I used is probably fine for most things, not sure why it failed on me. I wet the surface as the glue reacts to it and held it under pressure for 24 hours as the directions suggested too, using G-clamps and cardboard to stop the clamp sticking. I'm sure it will be fine without the fibre glass but don't blame you using it to make sure.

      irrespective of the weight, the big daft plates we have to have still catch a fair bit of wind at speed !
