This is still the best song I've ever heard that had anything to do with Mark or Misha from Periphery. When I heard this originally I was absolutely blown away. I had never heard anything like it in the metal genre. Completely changed my perception of how to write metal music as a guitarist. I was stuck in that generic metalcore box and this song is what pulled me out of it.
@JesusWasADerelict Its in Drop C Dude. Go to guitar messenger's website. Mark Halcomb from Haunted shores has posted his tabs (as well as the video) for this song. Go check it out and have a blast! :)
Yessir! He is in: Periphery Bulb (his own project) Djentlemen Of Man Not of Machine Haunted Shores and he recorded the drum tracks for Animals as Leaders :D
@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 a term originally thought up by Fredrik Thordendal but used much more frequently by the band Periphery. It refers to the sharp chugging sound produced by the guitar. Think of a guitar making the sound DJENT DJENT DJENT DJENT.
@LOKOMETASENJADOTOY yeah it's quite easy to define djent. You could describle it as sharp or bouncy guitar sound, different timing signatures are commonly used in djent too. I absolutely love it, above all other metal it just sounds so cool
right! I was wondering which song this sounded so similar to in structure and rhythm... couldn't quite figure it out until I saw your comment tysm! I do like this _slightly_ better than The Gods Must Be Crazy though haha
@JesusWasADerelict Djent is the onomatopoeia for the metallic chugging sound that you get when you palm mute a double octave power chord. And yes, this song is in Drop C.
Don't get me wrong, I love vocals in death metal, but for me, this song should just stay Instrumental. It's so good, such intricate riffs, such a wicked guitar tone.
@calves92 It depends on what key you are playing. I was just saying that it can be called Drop C♭. I wasn't referring to written music. If the song was in the key of C♭-major I would definitely call it drop C♭ in that case. But, that key is a enharmonic of B major lol so it's up to the writer to say what key it's in.
Dude, Matt Halpern does things with the drums that was never known to be possible by man before. C'mon... he is an integral part of the band, but that doesn't make the rest'o them any less AWESCHUM.
@clockwerkkilla420 Yup Meshuggah incorporated the beginning..Alot of people dont kno that Mudvayne were one of the first as well..Listen to the time in their songs..They would throw it in their, but i respect your opinion =)
GOOD LUCK, the popularity of those band depend on only 2 thing...............the lover and the hater. the more you hate it, the more popular they become, thanks for helping making them more popular. they want to provoke and it seem they did it just right with you.
@JesusWasADerelict haha seriously though look up Mark Holcomb Guitar Messenger and he does some explanations on tuning and how to play quite a couple of Haunted Shores songs. There's also a link to the webpage with tabs and tuning.
This is a quote from Elliot Coleman from SEA to Mark about this song "Hey, Spencer and I are hanging out right now and we've decided we want to both do Immaterial together if thats cool with you? A nice little duet." Mark responds with "Mark Holcomb as sure as a sure thing can be! like ray allen coming off a baseline screen at the 3 pt line. Speaking of which, can you guys write a song about NBA 2k11?. so what does this mean? Spencer Sotello and Elliot Coleman Duet on this amazing HS song!
@BadReligion93 hold that thought. this band is going to have more than one vocalist. wait until the LP comes out before you make your final judgement on this band having vocals.
@Theheavymetalscott djent isn't really a tuning dude... although djent tunings fall between normally drop b to g# or lower .. i wanted to know what tuning this song was in
@Ishimira1 .... wrong. While Haunted Shores and Periphery are both REALLY REALLY good, they didn't invent the genre, check out Meshuggah, or Sikth, or any of the shitty 'TOP 10 DJENT BANDS" videos that are rampant all over my suggested videos. You can find some pretty incredible bands.
@Dissimulatex Well I really like Spencer but I think you're right. Actually now that I think of it, Halpern is a monster too, but yeah, Misha is the foundation.
@JMHoughes I'm just recently coming into appreciation for this genre so I don't have a TON of arguing points or status in it's formation or anything, but thankfully I have had the exposure to some other great bands through those stupid videos :D
@UnderDetention But Haunted Shores is far from the Djent sound. The only similarity it has is that Bulb is involved. I've heard Djent referred to once as the nickname for the current movement in progressive metal, I find that that suits it more than anything else.
It seems to me like despite heavy distortion their music has like a really nice sweet taste to it. Pretty weird thing to say but there's no other explanation haha

I know it man! I like to think of it as Final Fantasy meet progressive metal haha.
same..still mind blown that Sentient Glow is gonna be on P4

Yessir!
He is in:
Periphery

Djentlemen

"Djent" a word used to describe a sound the bass note on a guitar makes. "progressive". a word used to describe a style of music you just heard.
Wasn't expecting that much when I clicked on the video. My mind is now blown by the amount of epic Djent-iness!
well, this is my new favorite instrumental of all time
@LOKOMETASENJADOTOY yeah it's quite easy to define djent. You could describle it as sharp or bouncy guitar sound, different timing signatures are commonly used in djent too. I absolutely love it, above all other metal it just sounds so cool
omg!! i'm a big fan of periphery so i definately like this! i really enjoy listening to bands like this!
Please make this a complete song periphery, I beg you!
Haunted Shores released this song with Elliot Coleman as the singer which was an amazing thing to do because the song sounds AMAZING.
It's gonna be on the new Haunted Shores Album this year, but don't tell anyone🤫
Heart stop, and carrying on through the light! Can you tell me what I'm missing?
Ah! The Gods Must Be Crazy!
right! I was wondering which song this sounded so similar to in structure and rhythm... couldn't quite figure it out until I saw your comment
tysm!
I do like this _slightly_ better than The Gods Must Be Crazy though haha
This is just great. Superb riffs, great accents and groove. Big fan of Haunted Shores now
I couldn't stop hitting repeat to save my life.
@JesusWasADerelict Djent is the onomatopoeia for the metallic chugging sound that you get when you palm mute a double octave power chord. And yes, this song is in Drop C.

@marknashland yes he does tons of stuff omnom haunted shores periphery and more...not to mention working as a producer
@LOKOMETASENJADOTOY
the technique comes from meshuggah, the word comes from misha mansoor
@calves92 It depends on what key you are playing. I was just saying that it can be called Drop C♭. I wasn't referring to written music. @PathogenProductions Technically, but there's not really a tuning called "drop C flat".It's just called drop B.
@marknashland basically if you ever hear anything this good, you should probably just assume that it's misha.
@JesusWasADerelict haha seriously though look up Mark Holcomb Guitar Messenger and he does some explanations on tuning and how to play quite a couple of Haunted Shores songs. There's also a link to the webpage with tabs and tuning.
This is a quote from Elliot Coleman from SEA to Mark about this song

so what does this mean? Spencer Sotello and Elliot Coleman Duet on this amazing HS song!
@BadReligion93 hold that thought. this band is going to have more than one vocalist. wait until the LP comes out before you make your final judgement on this band having vocals.
@Theheavymetalscott djent isn't really a tuning dude... although djent tunings fall between normally drop b to g# or lower .. i wanted to know what tuning this song was in
@Umaiketsu i agree. Haunted Shores is Thrash before its Djent, in my opinion. Djent is a palm mute techinque, which ive yet to hear in HS.
It has this djentle feeling at first and slaps you right in the mouth with a hand of awesome. None of that djeneric crap here!
@JesusWasADerelict Djent isn't a genre it's a type of tuning I think? It's like Progressive technical metal with Djent tuning. Hope that helps? :L
Hell yeah, Jake and Mark are great guitar players!
@MrKylederp I just checked that out.That's interesting.
However, it's more commonly referred to as "drop B".
@jadefalcon5 wait this is misha??? like in periphery so he has another project besides bulb?
@saxmodeman88 you know his name is Alex Boise not Tom right....right lol
Not sure on that one. I'll look it up
@Dissimulatex Well I really like Spencer but I think you're right.
@Aborius Misha plays for them.... so that would explain the similarities..
This is awesome.....nothing more to say
This is sick!
@quarentine99 AHAHA same thing happens to me! When I hear a really good song I'll either crack a smile or start laughing! LOL :D
@Dissimulatex Misha is an amazing song writer and guitar player though
@LOKOMETASENJADOTOY thank you!
Great stuff
@UnderDetention But Haunted Shores is far from the Djent sound. The only similarity it has is that Bulb is involved.
I've heard Djent referred to once as the nickname for the current movement in progressive metal, I find that that suits it more than anything else.
@Fluffypopcicle Mrak was actually spelled correctly...
so yeah, Casey Sabols doing vocals for this!!!!!!
@duhhh676 Lol, Ive been listening to djent all along and I never knew what it ment. Yes, it is the shit xD
this music stimulates my djenitals
@ComfyNumb1989

This is like some of the most intense riffing ever.

@LOKOMETASENJADOTOY thanks, thats really helpful
what tuning is this in?
LOVE DJENT.
It seems to me like despite heavy distortion their music has like a really nice sweet taste to it. Pretty weird thing to say but there's no other explanation haha
Sentient Glow is on P4, do maybe this gonna be on P5?
Maciej Niewiński I was hoping to see this or the the riff from the bias demo mark did. Still a good album

This really reminds me of Periphery
@LOKOMETASENJADOTOY Oh, I get it. Kinda like when Beavis and Butthead say "Duh DUN DUN DUN...."
Eliot Coleman added vocals to it!
tabs please!! :D this band is great!
@OhioGPhi1920 Drop C FLAT?Dude, don't You mean Drop B? :P
@JesusWasADerelict its in Drop C :)
If I was a dj, I'd be called dj ent. That way, i would make djent songs about lord of the rings.
@WaffleCaress speaking of beavis and buthead, they are coming back to TV with a new season. true story.
Djent = The best thing since metal
@Cagedand3nRaged then check out their new song Passenger. it's on my channel :D
Learn to spell his name before you criticize, also Mrak is a way better guitar player than Misha. Misha is just the most "progressive".
@SiMMkillsAll: thumbs up for originallity!
@clockwerkkilla420 No im not kidding you..follow the leader
myspace
Whats djent?
@JesusWasADerelict drop awesome
Who cares who coined what term first. UA-cam isn't for arguing. Just listen to the music.
@JesusWasADerelict Sounds like Drop C breh.
yessir, he recorded programmed drums :D
@CMihal6293 Djent isn't a genre, it's a buzzword. This is Prog Metal, not all progmetal has to sound the same.
How do you figure?
even though haunted shores and periphery are one in the same, this is still better than periphery
dellicious ¡¡ like halcyon
The Gods Must Be Crazy, right?
Their should be nomore Djent bands but this and Periphery
Don't forget Nolly ;)
3:24 Phone ring :D
@quarentine99 i do the same thing its amazing!!!!
3:24 - 3:52 Opeth vibes =)
1:04 til 1:16 is like potatoe chips to my ears...
