for everyone wondering (spoilers) - the movie is about twins (the dark haired guy and the woman) who are really codependent and basically cannot be apart from each other. they live in france, in the 60s. the blonde, is from america and he went to france to study cinema. he meets the twins and they try to bring him into their little circle. they're really hot and cold with him and kind of manipulative and basically treat him like a toy. (that scene where they're out in the rain... it happened right after they ran through the museum and they were testing him. when they open the door and let him in they're chanting "one of us!"... yes i have seen this movie too many times and analyzed it for fun lmao) but he clearly loves the woman (even tho it doesn't take much to see that the two men love each other as well, just in a different way. so although there's a couple of sort-of kisses, don't expect the movie to be about them) and tries to show them how their relationship is unhealthy, and there's a whole revolution thing going on that the twins want to be a part of, and the blonde doesn't, so in the end the twins leave him. there's a bunch of other shit happening, too, and it's all very dreamy and unrealistic but it's supposed to feel like that. it's not a movie for everybody, but it's beautifully shot and it just has a great vibe to it that i don't find many other films to have.
Alee Sant see i was disappointed too, but i think that’s the point of the movie. the twins relationship is too strong, something that an outsider, mathew, obviously isn’t able to understand by the last scene. i find it slightly beautiful, that mathew speaks to theo about standing up, and when he finally does, mathew is afraid of losing him, but expects isa to stay with himself. i don’t know.. maybe i’m just talking.
it's funny bc you can enjoy this fanvid if you've seen the movie before, but people are watching the movie because of this fanvid and they go in thinking these two are a thing. which they ARE, it's just complicated. it's kind of frustrating to read some of these comments haha
I watched this movie, Theo had sex with his sister, and they were in a couple, and in the end the parents of the brother and sister found out about it, and they were actually Siamese twins, well, sister at the beginning of the film, she told Matthew that if her parents found out about this, she would commit suicide, and at the end of the film, when her parents found out about this, they left a note about it, and left, did not wake them. When she woke up and saw a note, she lay back to the guys with a carbon monoxide hose so that they would die in three.Тео говорил Мэтью, что их всегда должно было быть двое, и что они связаны, и типо Мэтью тут не нужен. Смысл в том, что Мэтью лишний, и в конце фильма, они всё таки не умерли, так как она услышала, что Theo told Matthew that there should always be two of them, and that they were connected, and supposedly Matthew was not needed here. The point is that Matthew is superfluous, and at the end of the film, they still did not die, as she heard that a rally against the police was taking place on the street, and she woke up the guys and they ran into the street, so Theo and his sister (forgot her name) wanted to kill the police, and Matthew was a man of different views and tried to dissuade them, but they abandoned him, and ran to give birth to the police, the point is that he is not one of them, but not like them, and that they are Siamese blondes forever, even if for a long time are divided.
Actually is funny because the guy who plays Théo in this movie (Louis Garrel) is the brother of the girl who plays Marzia in "Call me by your name" (Esther Garrel)

This film is so good. Whilst everyone focus on the relationships between the characters. I'm more interested on how the film portray the twins living in their idealistic reality. They act as if they care about the protest and revolution happening outside in the streets yet they are totally oblivious to what's happening outside. They preach (mainly theo ) about how they are against violence and all for peace, yet in the ending scene they're so eagar to join in with the violent protest. The ending scene is when Matthew finally realises the hypocrisy of the twins and how he's not actually accepted into their world. The twins would rather proceed to join this movement than rather hearing out Matthew.
Yes, this is the part that made the movie sad for me. The twins were also so naive and sheltered within this little world they made up for themselves that when it came to dealing with real life problems they went into it thoughtlessly, not knowing its true meaning. Sure the philosophy and technicalities behind protests and politics were topics they were well versed on, but how could it really matter to them, mean something to them if it didn’t effect them? So in the end they threw their lives away(Assuming they died) not truly caring or knowing why.
YEEHHS, I know the movie and I loved it, but..I mean, they should be *Cayetana Polo and Valerio* on 2003, Is it just a coincidence that you saw it again? 😂

@@foniklein4913 the black haired guy and the woman are twins and dependant on each other and then the blonde haired guy wants to be a part of them but at the end the twins leave him
So, I've literally JUST watched this movie due to seeing this video. I'll feel a lot stupid for asking, but can somebody please enlighten me with the actual meaning of this film? What is the central theme? It's really so hard to figure out; the whole story feels like some dreamy unreality. The only possible meaning I can come close to is how Theo and Isabelle stunt each other's growth.
I think it's about this surreal connection the siblings have and how they reel Matthew into their world but never really allow him to become a part of it. They seem to have created a parallel universe that reflects a reality made solely for the two of them and as much as Matthew would like to fit in, he'll never really belong there. The driving force of the movie is how dependent the brother and sister are on each other, acting as a whole and thus impossible to separate. The moment Matthew tries to bring a different order to their dynamic is the moment he stirs up trouble and also the moment he realizes the kind of situation he's gotten into. To love Isabelle, you have to love Theo and vice-versa. Ultimately, I believe it's about the (unconventional) bond these siblings share and how nothing could ever tear them apart.
@@MissKaylie96 That's a surely interesting and enlightening point. And they indeed seem to create this parallel reality inside the apartment, as if they are unfazed by what happens in the outside world. Thank you for answering!
Hey so after reading the comments and watching this clip I'm still wondering if I should watch this movie or not, (what's it called by the way?). So.... Are Theo and Matthew attracted to each other at all? And does it have a good ending? (not necessarily happy, just well executed). Is it worth watching?
@@io_online Its an interesting movie, very well directed and quite thought provoking but its not for everybody. The boys do display chemistry and interest in each other but "the glue" really seems to be the girl, and she is the one Matthew (the blonde) seems to be truly interested in. The ending is well executed (even if I find it a bit rushed) and its neither good nor bad - it ends with the message the film tries to convey since the beginning. Id say it comes around full circle.

Everyone understands this film in their own way and what kind of relationship between the characters as well. Like the author didn't focus on them.
