Right and I found a top 40 list in the attic and it was up there in Sep. 64 .Don't forget , the original started with an intro and the main instrument is a banjo..Now a version with guitar , banjo and keyboards would be great ...
I love how you actually explain the keys and go through it slowly so people can learn better! Most tutorials just have the chords coming down but doesn’t have the explaining and naming of chords.
I’m 3 days into piano and I can honestly say it’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever tried to learn in my life 😂 that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun as hell tho! I love the feeling of getting a tune right after hours of failure. It just goes to show how talented and skilful pianists are. Btw I first heard this song in the soundtrack of mafia 3 🎵
im '07 so im not educated much in this old western culture especially cuz im European but while exploring rock and roll songs on spotify i found this song, i fell in love and now i want to play it along!
I am from Durham in the UK and the Animals are all local lads from Co Durham and Newcastle areas. The song was originaly a country and western song recorded by a USA band in 1963, I remeber seeing the Animals at the Club agogo in Newcastle, just before they released the House of the Rising Sun and the rest is History. The club agogo was frequented by many of the big names trying to make their way , David Bowie, Robert Plant Georgie Fame and hundreds more and most of them went on to become legends
Hi there. I’ve read about the history of the song and how it happened to fall into the hands of The Animals. A great story. But I’ve read that it was actually Bob Dylan’s first album that introduced the song to Newcastle. So it was actually a folk album, but it makes me wonder if folk would have been characterized as C&W up in northern England. Thanks for your very interesting comment.
My introduction to this song was a guitar tutorial vhs cassette. On it also was pretty woman and a third song I can't remember. Now I'm learning house of the rising sun on piano. Thank you for sharing your skill with us.
I know this song because it was the first song my grandfather learnt on the piano. He taught himself. I'm not as dedicated so this realy helps. I appreciate that you went through it cord for cord because some tutorials are too fast and I end up having to pause the video every second.
I don't even know where I heard it first, but I do remember falling in love with it when I heard it in the Mafia 3 trailer when the main character stabs a guy while talking about family and honor and loyalty, it was so cool.
Great work - You belong to a VERY rare breed who can get to the point without a load of BS (Clarity is what most you tube presenters lack) - How you explained the subtle difference between Guitar rendering and slightly modified Piano version touched me (of course the modified Piano version sounds better). I first heard this in early 1990s in radio music program - thanks to you now I have revamped interest to play this. Thank you once again. P.S. I would love to hear your own rendering of Greensleeves
Thank you for teaching this song. I first heard about it when my parents were jamming it while I was in my mother's womb in 1968. I came out singing it! haha
My dad played this song on guitar, it was the first song i learned how to play on guitar...and i always wanted to learn the keyboard too! I have a good ear, and can play a little on almost any instrument, but i lack being able to read sheet music, and being fluent in chords and scales etc. Thanks for the video its very helpful
thank you for this. very easy to follow. i first heard this song when it came out. i was 18 at the time. it made an impression on me that has lasted my whole life. it is my favorite song. it reached my soul.
Some friends of mine and I would take our drums and guitars into an underground auditorium and play the animals and white stripes songs all day. The haunting sound of an electric 12 string playing the melody will not go out from my mind.
You want to know how I came to The House of the Rising Sun? It was in the UK charts when i was a teenager. Alan Price as he developed into a solo performer away from the animals became a favourite of my Dads. We had a connection through music.
Hi thx I'm just getting back into keyboard (from many years ago), picked this to do, was many many years when I first heard this song, yes on the radio!
Thanks! My brother played this in his band (usually at high school dances) back in the mid ‘60’s. They cut one single with Not Fade Away on side A and Smokestack Lightning on side B, recorded at Norman Petty Studio in Clovis, NM. Dick Clark played it on American Bandstand one Saturday morning.
I first heard it when in Geography, we were learning about Hurricane Katrina and my teacher played it as we walked into the lesson. I found it so captivating, moving I asked him what it was. I was familiar with the melody (I think is the musical term) before that though, I just hadn’t heard it before.
I had definitely heard it before. But I really started to know this song when I heard Ashley Johnson's cover of it and I came obsessed with it because she's the voice actress/motion capture actress of Ellie Williams of The Last of Us and I'm just obsessed with that game and that actress and her voice :)
Great tutorial! Id love to have a vocalist accompany you while you explain the parts of the song. I'm a vocalist so let me know if you want me to accompany you 😊
Although I’m in my 20’s. I’m very old school. I’m very familiar with this thing called “AM Radio” and that obscure oldies station that comes on when you’re driving a station wagon from 1972.
When i would sleep in my grandmothers room when i was little wed have the radio on through the night and it always played at like 2 or 3am if i happened to wake up. Then i found it when i was older by googling the lyrics.
i found out about this honestly through the Devil Went Down to Georgia, "devils in the house of the rising sun", wanted to know what that meant and i found the song

I had the single back in 1964!
Super cool!

Okay John
You there ?
Skimming through and I got to 5:10 - 5:22 where you add vocals and got chills. Well done dude. Listened to that like 6 times
Thanks, Austin!

Well done, I like the melody arrangements that I can play without having a band.
Cheers, Brett!
