Thanks for the kind words! For this concession, the government essentially issues permits based on a very strict quota in 10 lb. increments starting at 25 lbs. and going up to 55 lbs. for the weight of each tusk. So each year they'll issue x-number of permits for each 10 lb. category based on the number of elephants in the area. The area is over 7,500 square miles! They are extremely strict on the weight and the bulls must be over 30 years old before they are able to be hunted. You cannot shoot a bull over 60 lbs. I believe because the government wants those genetics in the area and the bigger tusked bulls draw the tourists. We looked over hundreds of elephants and dozens of bulls before we found on that was at 35 lbs and over 30 years old. There is a big fine if the hunters shoots a bull above his permit weight so we didn't want to mess up. You can roughly judge the weight of an elephant's tusk by taking the circumference at the lip (in inches) and multiply it by the length from the lip to the end of the tusk (in feet). So a bull that measures 14" at the lip and is 3 feet long will weigh approximately 38 - 42 lbs.

Thank you for the constructive criticism. We actually did get several photos but I honestly didn't think you'd want to look at an elephant's a$$ since I'm sure you have plenty of mirrors in your house already. It seemed to be redundant.
Who's going to put up the money to transplant the elephants? You need dozens of people, veterinarians, vehicles, helicopters, shipping containers, storage facilities, land with enough food to support the elephants, etc. etc. And you can't just move a couple of the elephants, you have to move the whole herd. So do you want to step up with the first donation? Do you prefer paying cash or check? It will be a minimum of $250,000 US to get started.

Let's get the human population down as well😉👍🏾.

It is a dream of mine to hunt in that part of the world. White tails will have to do for now.
I’d have to eat a bite of that elephant just to show my respect.
Don’t stop dreaming. You’ll eventually get everything you want in life if you’re patient and want it bad enough.
This should not be allowed killing for fun uumm
What caliber of rifle was used? Great video!!!
Rigby .470 double built in 1908.
Thought it’s Illegal to hunt elephant
That’s a common misconception. It is illegal in some countries, but not in countries that practice sustainable use conservation.

This was incredible and well worth the wait! What did he mean that your permit only allowed you take a bull "over 30lbs"?
30 pounds in terms of Ivory? Indicating age? Dunno. Guessing.
@@richmondh3570 that sounds promising!
@@camswildlife5577 you couldn't answer my question more thoroughly if you tried lol
Ivory heavier then 30#
That Rigby .470 is a GEM 🥇
What was the other double rifle your friend (shorter in height) was using and what type of bullets were used ti down it ?
I had a .470 N E by William Evans 28” barell with ejectors in India. Dad bought it when I was in mid teens but very strong and muscular. I had shot many wild boars, some even charging and many deers with it. I will take those memories to my grave…That good !
He was using a Merkle .470. Hornady DGS 500 gr.
470 is too much for a 🦌
This is not cool brothers. And also you could get arrested for this man..
I’m not your brother and no I won’t be arrested for legally hunting an elephant with a permit issued to us from the South African government.
Horrible!!This is hunting?!
Best and most organized group of men I have ever seen. Two men shooting and other three on stand by to act fast incase that monster charges. More please!
It's not a monster, it's a beautiful sentient being that deserved to live, you're the animals
@@martingrimsted5017 you obviously know nothing about hunting and conservation
@@dakrt82 I know their were over 100,000 wild tigers, now 4,000, and can you explain why we need conservation
@martingrimsted5017 100k tigers didnt have 100k worth of tiger food to sustain their numbers. Old bull elephants like hippos will kill young males and the herd will suffer. Taking a bull actually increases population of the herd plus the local economy frkm the hunting costs.
@@Mr_Zimm all rubbish
Why are you killing? Very bad..
After all that and they couldn't get a picture of the entire animal?
Thank you for the constructive criticism. We actually did get several photos but I honestly didn't think you'd want to look at an elephant's a$$ since I'm sure you have plenty of mirrors in your house already. It seemed to be redundant.
So what you get offer .You killed this big animal not fair

Good piece! Ellies need to be managed. Clean hunting.
Absolutely. It’s amazing how folks are ignorant to this fact.
👌👌👌👍👍
Why they don't sell them to other countries for keeping in zoo
Who's going to put up the money to transplant the elephants? You need dozens of people, veterinarians, vehicles, helicopters, shipping containers, storage facilities, land with enough food to support the elephants, etc. etc. And you can't just move a couple of the elephants, you have to move the whole herd. So do you want to step up with the first donation? Do you prefer paying cash or check? It will be a minimum of $250,000 US to get started.
Before you put the poor things in a zoo/ jail it’s much better to shoot them.
Super denger area a full of wild animals.
Please😢😢😢no
I've had a gutful of elephants. They cause a lot of damage and pose a very real risk to human life and economic prosperoty. People seem to want to give them a special pass, apparently because they're big. Not this time, brother. This one didn't get away. 😂
We should start hunting humans, you know to help out and save the world from the irreversible effects of us. Let's go to the poorest areas of earth and start depopulation, to save the earth of course.

Killing animals in the name of Sports?
@@matts6894 it’s what you call person who participates in outdoor activities
Stop killing elephants 🐘
Stop telling what to do. "In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsmen. The excellent people who protest against all hunting and consider sportsmen as enemies of wildlife are ignorant of the fact that in reality the genuine sportsman is, by all odds, the most important factor in keeping the larger more valuable wild creatures from total extermination." - President Theodore Roosevelt
@@camswildlife5577 i don’t think I got your point. Do you mean that by killing them you have the best method of the wild preservation?
@@joelzimco5778 it sounds counterintuitive, but sustainable use hunting practices saves wildlife. Examples: South Africa promotes legal, regulated hunting and the wildlife populations are thriving. Kenya banned hunting in the 1970s and other than the national parks, the wildlife has been totally decimated. This isn’t my opinion. These are facts.
@@camswildlife5577 I think the case of Kenya 🇰🇪 was as result of drought. The theory of killing in the wild for increase in population sounds unbelievable.
@@joelzimco5778 If it was because of a drought, why are the animals within the boundaries of the parks doing fine but the wildlife outside of the park is decimated due to poaching? I guess droughts don’t affect National parks. Legal hunting pumps money into the economy. Money that creates jobs, money that can be used for habitat enhancement, money that goes to ANTI POACHING! Only when something has value will it be protected. That’s the irony and fallacy in your beliefs. You think if hunting gets banned in Africa the wildlife will be safe. WRONG! When hunting is banned the animals are poached by locals who don’t obey laws and need food and sell ivory and rhino horn and skins for pennies. You’re totally oblivious to this reality and don’t want to admit how ignorant to wildlife conservation you are. It’s pathetic that you think you’re some kind of hero activist when in reality you and people like you contribute absolutely ZERO to wildlife and do so from the comfort of your home. Go spend a few months in Africa and the wilderness like me and then come talk to me and apologize for being so selfish and ignorant.
