You're doing everything good already. I ride a SmoothStar on a 39" deck. It's agile and can handle more speed. (Heavier and harder to do airs) I recently uploaded an adventure on my channel.

I ride a hamboard and a shorter board with HST trucks I have a smoothstar but I seem to like the HST trucks better

Try to square up (perpendicular to board) the rear foot and move it a little further back. Going downhill, you can use the upper body a lot. Uphill, you need to focus on legs. Watch Shane Lai.

I suggest you watch surfing videos so you visually learn surfing movements, then you can apply those on concrete with your board.
