- Filming your hunts isn't only reserved for people who want to post videos on UA-cam. It's an extremely valuable thing to have to review your shot after the encounter! In this video Trevor gives you his reasoning why he believes EVERY bowhunter needs to have a an action camera; GoPro, DJI Osmo, Insta 360, or any other action camera on their head when they go into the woods. We have been utilizing a head camera all fall and captured some great footage which we show you in this video! Be sure to give it a try on your hunts this year!

Hey guys! One item to note that I didn’t mention in the video, make sure you run the camera in Wide Field of view. If you utilize Super wide the footage will look funny zoomed in and if you use narrow it’s just cropping the footage out of the camera. Wide is my preferred FOV to be able to capture everything and crop in post. Hope the video helped you get an idea of the kind of footage you can capture!
FINALLY, an experienced bowhunter and hunt filmer has taken the time to explain-in truly useful,detail-a simple, relatively low-cost setup that WORKS to capture what the shooter sees. As you point out, this view is important for him/her in analyzing the shot afterward AND for the UA-cam follower who wants to see and "experience" the moment of truth. Keep up the great work, Chris (in Maine)
I appreciate you sharing your expertise. Very helpful for me just getting started with filming hunts. Why not extend and preserve the great times during hunting season. I really see getting the shot on film as a helpful recovery tool as you mentioned. Thanks again friend for the useful thorough information.
Good video. Any updates on what you use now or recommend?
Keep up the good videos
Glad you enjoyed it!
I tried a head mounted tactacam this year. The narrow field of view made it tricky to get it positioned correctly on my head every time I hunted. I agree the head mount is the way to go for self filming especially on spot and stalks. May have to try my GoPro on my head now. I have a 7 black and have battery life issues… is the battery life good on the 10?
I haven’t had very many issues with the GoPro 10. Only time I had a battery quit was on one hunt that was in the low single digit temps. But when it’s that cold none of my batteries behave lol
what SD card should I use, nice job thanks for posting
Awesome tip. Especially for the camera angle. That is exactly what I needed
Any tips for battery life? Cold weather ZAPS my battery.
I haven’t had too many issues with this newer GoPro. I usually will stick it in my pocket with a hand warmer on the walk in if it’s super cold. Only had it quit once this year in low single digit temps.
Great tip on offsetting the headcam to one side!
