In Hindu verbatim, the phrase ‘Shri Ganesh’ signifies the start of something, especially the start of something good and positive. Many Hindu rituals start first with worshipping Lord Ganesha.
To know this, we need to get a brief on the story of Lord Ganesha.
In Shiv Purana, there is a description of an incident where Lord Shiva got angered by Lord Ganesha who was restricting Him to enter the premises as per the orders of Maa Parvati. In anger, He slashed Ganesha’s head.
This got Maa Parvati furious, and she threatened to destroy the whole creation. Lord Shiva then replaced the head of an elephant to reive Lord Ganesha and ranked him the foremost of all Gods.
In Hindu verbatim, the phrase ‘Shri Ganesh’ signifies the start of something, especially the start of something good and positive.
The elephant head on Ganesha’s body was that of Gajasura, an elephant who wished for Lord Shiva to adorn his head after his death. Lord Shiva gave his son a new life with Gajasura’s head. Seeing the love and devotion that His son Ganesha has towards Him and Parvati, Lord Shiva blessed Ganesha and told devotees to worship Ganesha before starting any auspicious activity.
The Hindu line of thought therefore worships Lord Ganesha before every katha or puja. Many associates the elephant head of lord Ganesha with his wisdom. They thus start with a Ganesh aarti or Ganesha Mantra.
