They went the local PD that night and the supervisor told them the ticket would be dismissed. But later his license got suspended due to an unpaid fine from this ticket. Now his lawyer had paid for it because otherwise, it had to go through a trial to get his license active again, the cops were really asshole.
The thing that always blew my mind about Pena is that he was sure you couldn't drive without a California license so he let you drive away and threatened you if you drove.

Per California law you can operate a vehicle as long as you have a valid license, especially from Canada. Wow, that was absolutely mind-boggling!

Well of course. In the US law enforcement is run just like a business with the end goal of making profits. If cops see a homeless guy committing a minor infraction they'll just pass him by because they know they won't be able to get any money from him, but guaranteed if they see someone who looks well off doing the same thing it's ticket writing time. It's well documented that especially in the southeast US the highway patrol specifically targets exotic and expensive vehicles in the hopes that they'll find some excuse to confiscate the vehicle. Even if the driver is later found innocent on all charges, getting the vehicle, cash, or property back is an arduous legal process that can take years to accomplish.

Well of course. In the US law enforcement is run just like a business with the end goal of making profits. If cops see a homeless guy committing a minor infraction they'll just pass him by because they know they won't be able to get any money from him, but guaranteed if they see someone who looks well off doing the same thing it's ticket writing time.
It's well documented that especially in the southeast US the highway patrol specifically targets exotic and expensive vehicles in the hopes that they'll find some excuse to confiscate the vehicle. Even if the driver is later found innocent on all charges, getting the vehicle, cash, or property back is an arduous legal process that can take years to accomplish.

Got arrested for his attitude. Any misdemeanor can end you up in jail. Cops just usually don't unless you have warrants or are a public safety hazard....or if you're a wannabe lawyer giving attitude on a busy Vegas freeway. Take the ticket and fight it later. Getting in a dick comparison contest with a cop over a minor traffic ticket is a lose-lose situation. They don't care to hear you tell them how to do their job. If they're wrong fight it in court. Patrolman was not wrong in this case.

@skank hunt because he took a plea instead of fighting it. Cops will fight hard af to keep themselves looking clean so if you try fighting it you end up paying thousands in court costs....most of the time its just cheaper to plea if you have the money for it anyways.
