My great grandmother was born a slave and she used to tell me about how it was illegal for her to learn how to read but her slave master's daughter taught her anyway. When she started having dementia she would tell my grandmother to not let them see me with a book because they could kill me. This has always stuck with me, my great grandma was over 100 when she died in 78. I feel like every book I read is dedicated to her.
Wow! What a beautiful way to think about the access we have to books..We are reading for those who never had the opportunity to read, those who lost their life because they wanted to learn to read.
I believe the reason why there was such a big push against us learning to read is so we wouldn’t read the Bible and learn the freedom we have in Christ!
@@PeaceofthePlans it was definitely to keep us in bondage. My grandma taught me how to read by reading the KJV Bible. She only had a 5th grade education so I believe it was Devine intervention. I have been reading since I was 4 thanks to Clara...lol. She would pop me in the mouth if she was here to hear me call her by her first name. Be blessed

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never done a reading journal but this is so inspiring. This year I am reading books that are related to MY ONE WORD so this is something new for me.

@@PeaceofthePlans yes, I do! My favorite book was probably Klara & the Sun by Kazau Ishiguro in 2023. It really made me think!
