അന്യഗ്രഹ ജീവികളിലൂടെയും ആഗോളതാപനത്തിലൂടെയും ലോകവസാനത്തിന്റെ കഥകൾ പറഞ്ഞ റോളണ്ട് ഇത്തവണ മായൻ ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങളെ കൂട്ടുപിടിച്ചാണ് ലോകത്തിന്റെ അന്ത്യം നടത്തുന്നത്. പുരാതന മായലൻ കലണ്ടറിലെ അവസാന വർഷമാണ് 2012. കൃത്യമായി പറഞ്ഞാൽ 2012, ഡിസംബർ 21 എന്ന തീയതി മായൻ കലണ്ടറിൽ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നത് 13.0.0.0.0 എന്നാണ്. തൊട്ടടുത്ത ദിവസമായ 22 രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയത് 0.0.0.0.1 എന്നും. ഇത് ചൂണ്ടിക്കാട്ടി ചില പ്രവാചകർ പറയുന്നത് ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള മാനവിക സംസ്‌ക്കാരങ്ങളെല്ലാം 21ന് നശിക്കുമെന്നും 22 തൊട്ട് പുതിയൊരു യുഗം തുടങ്ങുമെന്നുമാണ്. ഇതിനെ പിൻപിറ്റിയാണ് സംവിധായകൻ 2012 എന്ന ബ്രഹ്മാണ്ഡ ചിത്രം ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
