As Travis Morrison says in an interview, the song is about someone you’ve been dating for 4ish months, then they drown, and die, and the awkward emotions of disbelief and feeling like you should care more after. The story comes from another interview by Michael Jordan, where that exact scenario happened to him.
I can totally see the parallels of the lyrics relating to being ghosted by a person. However, I think they stated in an interview that they wrote this about a relationship Michael Jordan had that ended because the woman passed away.
@@bassgirl_denalia9087 Makes sense... I definite projected a bit of my own life in my interpretation -- which is something we all do with our favorites, right? I am psyched ppl are still coming back to this song. It is a lasting epic, for me at least. Thanks for the reminder!
As kisses go It wasn't anything out of the ordinary The alkaline lips Her fingers hooked around my belt She had to go She took a step back in and then she started to smile I heard a funny sound And everything seemed to shift, yeah A crazy wail A funny shutter of a bad magnetic event A ghost ran through us Moving like a shadow of a cloud And I wasn't sure I thought that something happened but I didn't know what The moment seemed to fade And I turned my eyes back to her That's when I saw I freeze the look of pre-alert and study it still Her smile starts to loosen, her pupils yawn wide And then she's blown From the face of the earth There wasn't any wind, no noise, no nothing just a body jerked skyward, limbs flailing like an unloved marionette At impossible speed Receding away like a faraway dot I can see her still, scream for help but no one answered, she turned end on end, moving like a long-lost astronaut I felt the summer air reclaim me The chirp of a bird, the whisper of leaves And I was frozen To the face of the earth I never really knew the way she lived her life I tried a couple numbers but they never called back I didn't know her family or friends at all With no one to call, summer turned into fall I gave up It's been a couple years and I guess I'm fine about it It's not like we were married, it was three or four months And nothing's really different though it seems like I've spent my life in planes Which is kind of strange But I don't know Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, yeah...
IKR?!! I have been thinking about how to introduce them to folks who are initially resistant about it. They're shouty, some folks think. Pfft. Some folks, y'know?
im not sure that is explicitly part of the song, i would love to know how you arrived at that conclusion though! a lot of songs are loosely about a subject and leave space for one's own interpetation.

Bass refreshing as a cool summer breeze.
How is it possible that this song ONLY HAS 13,621 views AND 138 likes?
Blame UA-cam
We've got to get this band in front of folks. Cover versions? Use it in a TV show or video game? More people deserve to hear them!!
love how weird this one is-- goes from peaceful and tranquil into being really upbeat with just those hints of twanginess in those sharps and flats
I saw them on this tour. AMAZING SHOW
My favourite song
Definitely one of mine, too. The lyrics and the meaning behind them have always struck a chord with me.
Intro Hi-hat: close.
Outro Hi-hat: OOOOOPEEEEN.
Such a great song. I love everything about it.
The best ever song about getting ghosted -- before people used the term "ghosted"
very true
tfw the song is actually about your girlfriend blowing up but not knowing enough about her to care

As kisses go
It wasn't anything out of the ordinary
The alkaline lips
Her fingers hooked around my belt
She had to go
She took a step back in and then she started to smile
I heard a funny sound
And everything seemed to shift, yeah
A crazy wail
A funny shutter of a bad magnetic event
A ghost ran through us
Moving like a shadow of a cloud
And I wasn't sure
I thought that something happened but I didn't know what
The moment seemed to fade
And I turned my eyes back to her
That's when I saw
I freeze the look of pre-alert and study it still
Her smile starts to loosen, her pupils yawn wide
And then she's blown
From the face of the earth
There wasn't any wind, no noise, no nothing just a body jerked skyward, limbs flailing like an unloved marionette
At impossible speed
Receding away like a faraway dot
I can see her still, scream for help but no one answered, she turned end on end, moving like a long-lost astronaut
I felt the summer air reclaim me
The chirp of a bird, the whisper of leaves
And I was frozen
To the face of the earth
I never really knew the way she lived her life
I tried a couple numbers but they never called back
I didn't know her family or friends at all
With no one to call, summer turned into fall
I gave up
It's been a couple years and I guess I'm fine about it
It's not like we were married, it was three or four months
And nothing's really different though it seems like I've spent my life in planes
Which is kind of strange
But I don't know
Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, yeah...
The deepest band that ever existed.

This song live is sick... was sick.
It's actually very powerful and well written
One of my favorite EVER live bands. SO TIGHT. So poignant. So shouty, but about important shit!!
@@tchwiss It is a *brilliant* song about a painful thing, with a little veneer of science fiction. I love it beyond reason. What an incredible song.

It's about a girl who dies suddenly after they go out together for a bit.

Ascendancy Betty oh damn that’s wild. thanks for the explaination
@@anesthetized7053 I find this crazy - I always thought it was metaphorical!
That’s when the party started!
reminds me of Biffy Clyro and Pinback
