Tobias's voice is so unique, and I love hearing him talk! Especially after watching his narrated tutorial videos... I love your work, Teenage Engineering. Can't wait to get my hands on one of these!
I gotta say. This kind of interaction is what is needed with every manufacturer of new gear! so Kewl! Because if you make it! You better godamn well play on it!
I got the opz after owning the op1 for a couple months, found that it's more my style, and it literally fits in your pocket And those spin disks instead of knobs 👌 next level, why bother with knobs ever again, they're so awesome
I just want to say that I appreciate your videos. I saw Simon gave you a bunch of grief but I like your videos more so keep doing your thing. There are tons of reviews out there that are super technical and thorough. Although this particular video was not a review a lot of your reviews have a lot of musical playing in them. I appreciate that sometimes more than the tutorial review process. Not all of the people who buy synths just want to make weird noises. Some of us love a good groove. It’s the reason Red Means Recording is so popular, because he brings the funky grooves. Jack keep the funk coming and ignore the haters. Good job fixing the title too, smart move.
From watching tons of OP-Z videos i think you can. You can sequence the steps and layer it so its longer. You can even change individual sequences to different bar lengths (1-4 bars)
Yes - you can 'chain' up to 32 patterns, 16 steps in each. You can save up to 14 different pattern chains (of 32 patterns) per project! There are 10 projects. However what really blows my mind is that each track in a pattern can have it's resolution changed so you can have way more than 16 steps, but you loose the ability to individually edit them at this point. If you set the multiplier to 9, the track is 16 times longer than another 16 step track. However timing resolution is lost. But this means for a slower moving progression eg a bassline it can play it's steps a lot slower than another step. It has crazy 'step components' stuff going on too, so a note can be set to play on every 4th play of the pattern. Using these things together it's wildly more capable than what you'd think from a '16 step sequencer'
For real. The Beat was very dope man. I appreciate that interesting review 👍🏽👍🏽 But still. OP-1 is my fav but the OP-Z is definitely interesting and got nice punchy and much cleaner sound. 👍🏽👍🏽 I've watched a lot of OP-Z videos but these beats are kinda fire 🔥
Hello, Tried for days now, really struggling to use my Samsung S8 to output audio to the OPZ in sample mode. Been to Samsung shop, I have my audio output settings on my phone to OPZ via Samsung Smart Things, have USB configuration in Developer Settings to output Audio via USB and sound doesnt leave phone via the speaker or the headphone port when settings are like this, so audio is leaving phone via the usb c port but OPZ does not seem to think that is the default audio input, it still only listens via built in mic or earphones mic when engaged. Thoughts? Has anyone else successfully used sample mode direct from Samsung S8 into OPZ? My girlfriends Android phone, Huawei P30 works instantly, no settings changed, just the same usb c to usb c and straight away I can sample digital audio into the OPZ, I just need to do the same on my Samsung S8. Do I need a USB OTG cable? Or a seperate app that reroutes the audio leaving my phone or tells the OPZ it is slave to listen not my phone listen to audio FROM OPZ via USB (I dont know if it is doing this however). I am on latest firmware on both OPZ and phone. Help needed pls (mine bought from Andertons) Thanks Myles
How does the TE OPZ measure up against the Novation Circuit? Does it justify the price tag by being twice as good as the Circuit? What are the main pros/cons of the OPZ? Why only IOS/Apple support? How does a PC user swap out the drums and/or the synth patches? To what genres is the OPZ best suited? What are the main pros/cons of the OPZ? Should I be asking Santa for one this Christmas?
I have both, and op-z is clearly deeper. However, Circuit is a lot of fun too. If I have to choose : op-z, definitely. Feel free to watch some video to make your opinion!
Jake Johnson yea, they already said that they won’t be making a successor to the OP-1, which I completely understand as it’s almost a modern classic already
hey Jack, why not just correcting it? We suffer from such videos who titles that it's a review. I'm journalist and have a website for news and reviews. A review must be pro and contra, showing the problems and the strong points. This is a presentation with the developer. So would be good if you change the title. Thanks in advance!
I'll be sure to pass it on to the guys at the web team. They're fully aware how stupid I am so sadly I don't have the access to change it myself bud. Thanks for the constructive comment X
Jack Duxbury worst excuse. Cause dude if you are that stupid for real then how the fuck are we gonna trust you with gear? Hahah. Ill keep track for how long this stands as a review now for the fun of it. I bet you wont change at all but Im comfortable being wrong about stuff. Its only internet so I guess it being legit is way beneath clickbait anyways right?
This i a .......weird approach to synthplaying , well , its hardly meant to be playable i suppose, but i could see it as a great tool on backpacking trips, like Thailand , Cambodia, and backpacking in general, (i never travel without a bass and a batt. operated synth, like my MicroKorg, and a microcube for jamming on the road ) that little machine just grew on me , when that dude, jammed hard, at the end of the show ,- Another fine show from “Jack & The Andertones” ;-)
So its like a supercar but you only drive it using the gps map and you need to learn how to navigate and calculate distances based on scales with regards to your speed and acceleration. I have been waiting for a product that will make making music as hard as possible.
The OP-Z is the most fun synth...or gadget I have ever owned. It's mere seconds before you make something wonderful sounding and almost requires no effort. It's beyond cool.
Sadly, the developer was never allowed to complete a single thought due to the meth’d out ‘interviewer.’ Missed opportunity to let Tobias actually explain the machine
Don't get how this is supposed to be a review?? Presentation with the developer perhaps? You need to sell the gear i get that, you're a shop but why click bait it? I would still watch a presentation for what it's worth, not worth tricking your viewers
No tricking intended I can assure you mate. I agree with you that this isn't probably the "right" title and I'm going to have a word about getting it changed next time I'm in bud, thanks for watching anyways X
Jack looks overexcited and interrupts Tobias after every word. Tobias is super patient. Jack, next time please be cool and learn how to listen, concentrate on features, otherwise it’s not a review, it’s more like hyped introduction. I understand your feelings and excitement, but review should be useful
I here ya, trust me I'm trying but sadly I genuinely get it into these things and find it really hard to put a lid on it :( thanks for giving the video a go anyways. Peace X
Thanks for the mention!

I just got one, it was expensive...I’ve had it for a week. If it broke right now, I’d buy another one. I love it
It's sooooooooooo good!! Love mine 😎

Love how Jack doesn't listen to the guy's sales pitch and just cranks up the grooves :)
Fk da sales pitches!!!

I really luv the vibes in that room! Dats Passion!
I don’t think jack is really cutting Tobias off that much! Just asking important questions for the viewers! Love his excitement, it rubs off on me!
I know this is a 16 step sequencer but, is there a way to chain the patterns to make it a 64 step sequencer?
From watching tons of OP-Z videos i think you can. You can sequence the steps and layer it so its longer. You can even change individual sequences to different bar lengths (1-4 bars)

Ordered it from Andertons cause of this review when Tobias said they are coming in! Still held at customs lol.
0:42 is so funny and dope to me 😁😁
This machine is awesome. Cheaper than the OP-1 and looks like it's more tailored to my personal musical needs! "Dear Santa..."
‘Cheaper’ is still 600 lol.
Still couldn’t resist getting one for myself haha

Your pc can be used to swap out drums and synth patches. But you need Apple to use the visual interface.
I have both, and op-z is clearly deeper. However, Circuit is a lot of fun too. If I have to choose : op-z, definitely. Feel free to watch some video to make your opinion!
I’d like it more if it was 3x bigger and had a small screen like the op-1.
RC ANDERSON They didn’t add a screen to make it a little bit more affordable. You can use your iphone/ipad as a screen if you want to.
and also, theyre trying to create something new. If they made it bigger and add a screen, its going to be too similar to the OP-1
Jake Johnson yea, they already said that they won’t be making a successor to the OP-1, which I completely understand as it’s almost a modern classic already

I think a 1990's remote control manual will cover you.
Like your observation, but the snark leaves me cold.
not exactly a review, but always cool to see Tobias.
