Ditto. I'm a L3/L4 incomplete walking paraplegic, 39 years post. I have a collection of canes & crutches I use depending on what I am wearing. Canes in different colors, head colors & types (brass, gold, silver, steel, etc.), and materials. My daily crutches are black for a neutral look, with bendable cuffs to adjust for different styles of coats and outerwear. Also fairly substantial collection of shoes & socks. Different shoe sizes for whether I'm wearing AFOs (braces) that day or not. And when dressing up, using socks over the AFOs to hide them. If you roll part time like I do, clothes fit differently when you are sitting in a wheelchair. Having sitting & standing clothes will keep you looking good either way.

Yeah, i'm 21 and just starting to incorporate this kind of business casual vibe. Even if this is considered rather casual than business, in my country this is a pretty dressed-up look compared to most business outfits.
I worked for a corporation led by a famous billionaire. He wasn't real hands on but his partners and their mangers were on site monthly for several days. These guys were all uber successful and when I observed them, they all fit a certain mold in their dress. They were all in their 40's+, all in great shape (the majority retired military officers) and well groomed. They all wore expensive tailored slacks with dark business socks in high dollar import slip on shoes that were well polished. A matching expensive belt and dress shirts in window pane or checked light blues that were tailor made. No ties. I started wearing what they wore and got plenty of those positive glances from them. My advice....wear what your bosses wear.
To be completely honest, I think jeans with a dress shirt, loafers and a sports jacket/sport coat is a great business casual outfit. Often worn by Antonio Ceteno as well.
Well done, Raphael! Thank you, sir, for this elegantly succinct yet comprehensive guide. This advice was exactly what I needed currently, as I am downsizing my wardrobe to just the best-fitting and most up-to-date interchangeable garments in my business casual and smart casual subsets. Your guide could not have been more timely. Best regards, Chris
Where I used to work, these outfits would have been considered full business dress. In the mid-late 90s when business casual/dress down Fridays came on the scene, my boss at the time pulled me aside and told me to "tone it down" because I was making him look bad. He wasn't a slob, but he preferred the Larry David, relaxed type look. Apparently, his boss asked why people in his division dressed better than him. Ouch! Needless to say, that was a long time ago and I've moved on, but always chuckle when I hear business casual attire mentioned. Nice video, guys!

don't go wax. go with a cream or paste. no gel. you need a hair product which lets you restyle and won't let your hair stick. or you go super sleek like sven.
B M Okay that’s great help, thank you! May I ask if there is any particular brand or product you know of or would recommend? Thanks for the help again!
Stephen H no worries! Depends on the length of your hair. I have short hair on the side but a lil longer on top. I use Kevin Murphy Rough Rider. It‘s a styling clay and needs some fixing with a spray with flexible hold if you wear a hat. It‘s pricy but you don‘t have to use that much product in your hair for styling. Mr Schneider a question: I am an administrative assistant for a utility company; that is to say, I do not have to wear jeans and work boots and work jackets. I sit at a desk and see to our department's needs mostly by way of emails and processing orders. I also sit at the very front of our entrance so I am the first thing one sees if someone enters the building so I dress more formally by default, jackets and odd trousers maybe a vest and a tie instead on occasion but I am surrounded by individuals in work boots jeans and utility jackets. I have no uniform restrictions or requirements within my company to base my dress code off of, however the individuals that I work with are not in the same job as me I just work in very close proximity to them. I have not had any complaints that my more formal wear is in anyway distracting or disruptive but it has been commented on on occasion. How do I reconcile the overall casual utilitarian nature of my office space with my own more formal oriented nature?
When I they uploaded this video I found these outfits “Way up in the formality” (those with jackets) now I am able to perceive why they’re called casual
West coast admittedly, but I work at a major law firm, and a jacket of any kind is a little too formal for "business casual" in experience. Nice shoes, chinos, and a button up are pretty much my "standard"
can you make a video where you discuss/show the best brands for each item? For example the best leather bag brand or for an overcoat. Maybe in different price categories.
We can think about it. Of course, it requires a lot of capital as we would have to spend thousands of dollars on props for each video and then test them thoroughly on top of it, which is not so quick if you do it right... We will discuss it internally though
Can I ask you why you chose the name Fort Belvedere? When I was in the north of Ireland a couple of years ago, I'm sure I saw a sign for a Fort Belvedere there. Do you have a story behind it? I'm from New Zealand where sadly there's about 5 well-dressed people per 1000sq km 😥
D J L Smith I think it references the house of that name on the Windsor estate in England. Fort Belvedere was, for a time, the home of Edward, Prince of Wales (later the Duke of Windsor), whose dress style Sven greatly admires.
Hey guys, long time follower! Can you please make a video on how to dress nice at a casual BBQ or if friends invite you over. Sometimes it isn't appropriate for jeans or chino's and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to look dapper in shorts!
Question - is it not necessary to match the fabric of the pants (i.e. cotton chinos) with that of the blazer/sports coat (i.e. wool) when dressing in business casual?
I love these suggestions but as someone who lives in Southern California, the heat rarely gives me a comfortable opportunity to wear a sport coat of any fashion.
capsule is interesting word choice. the term ive seen in other videos is "minimalist" . or perhaps the concepts aren't the same? *edit* after watching the vid...it seems to be different. for example, recommending 10 shirts is probably a bit more than minimalist,
@Will Adams. I agree with your comment. Watch how Sherlock Holmes dresses in the most modern style in the TV series Elementary, where the members of the Police Force dress in a conventional style. He looks good. Phil.

Who is this new editor, that spins and shuttles out of every frame and cut's like it is a car chasing scene ? In my opinion it confuses me, it is not the gazette experience i am used too, but others might dig it.
Dear Gentlemen, today I was confrontated with a question that I could not answer and my research on Gentlemans Gazette was not successful: If your suit jacket has a "side vents gap" and the fabric is not lying flat on your bump, can a tailor fix this by letting out sides (or by any other method?)
I sell menswear. If the gap is prominent, letting out the center seam and modestly opening up the side seams can maintain the coats structure. I do mostly custom work and if side vents are a problem because of the prominence of the derriere I recommend a single vent or no vent. I still cut a tailored fit or slim fit jacket if that silhouette is appropriate for the frame, but the vent placement can solve the problem. In most RTW collections, a center vent is only available on a traditional fit coat, which is dated and not generally flattering.
Please provide us that are big and overweight with guidance how to look good in a suit. Im 6'5 300+ with a gut that ant going nowhere We look like a huge round ball in a suit haha
Overall good video but I will say this I disagree with you about jeans. They are acceptable for sure a business casual wardrobe, especially if they are darker in color I think sports jackets are old-school for your grandpa look same with some of the sweater, patterns, and blazers I got rid of mine. I only wear suits when I dress up, my dressy casual look is usually a nice sweater dark jeans, dress, shoes, or boots. In the summertime, I wear a short sleeve polo with jeans and dress shoes I think khakis and chinos especially are wanna be dress pants. If you’re gonna wear dress pants, wear dress pants, preferably a full suit.
One problem with the double-breasted jacket is that you're stuck with wearing it all buttoned up. In Texas, if you're buttoned up...you're cooking up like a well dressed baked potato.
I hope its okay to post this here. But me and a couple of other people have started r/SartorialClothing on reddit! Anyone is free to join and discuss about our passion and post pictures of your outfits, ask for advice!

Can you please educate me on a, "Button down?" I think they're repugnant and something my grandfather would ware (not in a good way). I don't believe a button down collar looks good on anyone. Willing to have my mind changed.
The main thing is the collar roll. This roll, along with the oxford cloth softness, and the overall softness, forms the not so stiff, rigid and dressy, yet smart and comfortable look. To form a beautifully slouchy and soft roll which makes the impression of the complete opposite of a formal, stiff look, the button down collar has to be incredibly soft, ideally unlined-oh, and cut in a right way, of course (we don't talk here about numerous mall shirts with their poor, short collars). Try to find some pics of the vintage Brooks Brothers OCBDs (oxford cloth button downs) to see what I mean. P.S. Why would your grandfather be against button down shirts?..

What. About formal business wear, may I ask?
10:28 I agree, the derby shoes are very warm looking and easy in movement with.
Plz make a same video for 25-30 yr men for daily wear...... Capsule wardrobe........ Lots of luv frm 🇮🇳india🇮🇳
Make a video about indoor garments pls
I wear a uniform to work. I wish I had more occasions to dress up.
Hi Sven! Great video as always, thanks! Quick question: would you perhaps have any advice on what to do with my hair so it doesn’t get messed up when I wear a hat? As I find the usual hair wax often doesn’t hold when I take the hat off. Thanks!!
don't go wax. go with a cream or paste. no gel. you need a hair product which lets you restyle and won't let your hair stick. or you go super sleek like sven.
I think there was a YT channel „man for himself“, Robin is his name, he has nice advice and shows a lot of products for hair and grooming in general. ;)
B M That’s great help. Thanks once again, and best of luck!
Hello my name is Franklin I'd like to know how much cost me a casual combination that included everything, Jacket, Pants, Shirt, Belt, Shoes, Socks and assesories. thank you
Mr Schneider a question: I am an administrative assistant for a utility company; that is to say, I do not have to wear jeans and work boots and work jackets.
Been a subscriber for a long time, love your videos...but pink pleated chinos? I cannot think of a time I would consider wearing those.
Shirts with or without a pocket?
do you think you should always wear a dress shirt under crew neck sweaters as well?
Not realky its up to you, but wearing a tie and then a crew neck looks good.
When I they uploaded this video I found these outfits “Way up in the formality” (those with jackets) now I am able to perceive why they’re called casual
Seems Rafael wants Winter here sooner than later? ;p
I concur. I watch several videos and then go where do I get this? How do I know which brands are going to be good?
How do you get that wide cuff style?
But what about if have to go froim my work to my gym?
Can I ask you why you chose the name Fort Belvedere? When I was in the north of Ireland a couple of years ago, I'm sure I saw a sign for a Fort Belvedere there. Do you have a story behind it? I'm from New Zealand where sadly there's about 5 well-dressed people per 1000sq km 😥
D J L Smith I think it references the house of that name on the Windsor estate in England. Fort Belvedere was, for a time, the home of Edward, Prince of Wales (later the Duke of Windsor), whose dress style Sven greatly admires.
@@gerardacronin334 That would make sense. There must be more than one Fort Belvedere I guess. Thanks for the info Gerarda.
Can you make a video on how to dress with a company shirt?
My birthday is next month. I will be 21 and I'm watching this channel for a year now. I don't know if I'm ready to invest on a capsule wardrobe.
You could start small and only get one or a few pieces at a time.
@@coreyfink6783 thanks, I'm already starting. I recently graduated.
Hey guys, long time follower! Can you please make a video on how to dress nice at a casual BBQ or if friends invite you over. Sometimes it isn't appropriate for jeans or chino's and I'm having a hard time figuring out how to look dapper in shorts!
Hey Raphael, can you please do a video on your tie collection?
We've been thinking about it, because it will be a long one
Question - is it not necessary to match the fabric of the pants (i.e. cotton chinos) with that of the blazer/sports coat (i.e. wool) when dressing in business casual?
indeed it is. permanent style has great blog posts about this.
Excellent video 👏👏👏 keep up the good work
This is a really good video!
This video is amazing! Thank you!!!
I wear King Gee shirts and FXD trousers to work :P
I love these suggestions but as someone who lives in Southern California, the heat rarely gives me a comfortable opportunity to wear a sport coat of any fashion.
capsule is interesting word choice. the term ive seen in other videos is "minimalist" . or perhaps the concepts aren't the same?
*edit* after watching the vid...it seems to be different. for example, recommending 10 shirts is probably a bit more than minimalist,
can you made a brand of D'r martens brand shoes for out fit please please
Great video. Thank you,
Great video thanks
There's nothing wrong with buttoning a shirt all the way to the top without neckwear. You see that look a lot in the 40s.
Let's agree to disagree😜
@Will Adams. I agree with your comment. Watch how Sherlock Holmes dresses in the most modern style in the TV series Elementary, where the members of the Police Force dress in a conventional style. He looks good. Phil.
Where do you get your jacket hangers?
You should check the "10 clothing and wardrobe essentials" video; I reckon Raphael explains in details what kind of hanger is best and where you can find those in it.
I started new work few days ago. They said business casual. However, when I came to the office dressed like some guys from this video they said I was overdressed. It’s more like street-bum dress code in my office.
Button-down collar with a tie?
I knew someone who wore the same orange shirt three days in a row. If one cannot be bothered wearing a clean shirt everyday, at least make it one which doesn't give away what one is doing. M.
You never know. May be he had several shirts of same color ;).
He didn’t.
@@rovercoupe7104 I was only kidding. Didn't think he was Steve Jobs reborn.
Sorry, I should have realised. M.
@@rovercoupe7104 no worries.
can you make a video about teenagers please?
Can you be more specific please?
@@gentlemansgazette ı am 20 years old and ı dont know how to look like a gentleman in his 20's. I watched your video called how to dres your age but that video was too short for me.
Unfortunately, orange is dominant in my smart casual wardrobe. It is the color of my home province, with shades of green second as I once represented our region in a national event as a high school student. Other than that blue in its varying comvinations and shades dominate the rest...
Who is this new editor, that spins and shuttles out of every frame and cut's like it is a car chasing scene ? In my opinion it confuses me, it is not the gazette experience i am used too, but others might dig it.
feels very aimed at my recent comment on school uniform, glad to see the feedback
You mean bizzasual!
A lot of the outfits early on in the video scream 80s used car salesman
Make a video for those of us who only wear black.
Hey, a dude here. I've seen that women love to watch this, and I'm wondering if you can get y'all's wives or mothers to do a lady's gazette
Dear Gentlemen, today I was confrontated with a question that I could not answer and my research on Gentlemans Gazette was not successful:
If your suit jacket has a "side vents gap" and the fabric is not lying flat on your bump, can a tailor fix this by letting out sides (or by any other method?)
Could you review the style of Albert Camus? He was known as the handsome philosopher and quite the gentleman :)
Please provide us that are big and overweight with guidance how to look good in a suit.
Im 6'5 300+ with a gut that ant going nowhere
We look like a huge round ball in a suit haha
I find it’s not worth me using bow ties in my outfits because of my beard you can’t really see them.
Years ago I worked at a bank and they would not let us dress really "down" on Fridays.
One problem with the double-breasted jacket is that you're stuck with wearing it all buttoned up. In Texas, if you're buttoned up...you're cooking up like a well dressed baked potato.
🤣🤣🤣 Not only in Texas.
You can wear one made of fresco or linen
I hope its okay to post this here. But me and a couple of other people have started r/SartorialClothing on reddit! Anyone is free to join and discuss about our passion and post pictures of your outfits, ask for advice!
All nice, but highly dependent on the culture of one’s workplace.
The more I watch these Videos, the less I believe in a capsule Wardrobe. Right now I may hace a small warddrobe, but thats mostly because I am in university.
