Procedure worked beautifully to recover a 32year old vhs-c tape that slipped off the reel. I too am using elgato video capture to digitize these memories. My TDK TC-20 tapes have all plastic rollers and all the screws are small. The plastic stop piece was black. But all else was the same. Thank you for your clear step-by-step instructions.

Super helpful video!! Thanks so much, was able to fix my tape & recover the footage :)
Thank you and great job!
I just bought an Elgato Video Capture today and the first tape I was going to digitize snapped. The innards of my tape didn't look identical, but this video was still of great help (I thought it would be harder). Thanks Media Nerd!

This is very helpful. my case is slightly different as the Tape ripped in the middle rather than slipped off. I assume I can use the plastic tape to fix this, but which side would i apply the tape to, the top or bottom? thanks!
Both sides. I have a video showing how to splice.
hi! thanks for all the great content! Am having an issue where the tape is misaligned (pushed to one side when i open the top door), and I cannot rewind the tape in camera - everytime i do this, little "teeth mark" are visible on the "text side" of the tape (not the side with the cogs visible). Any idea on how to fix this? I have been manually rewinding the tape but am wary of it causing more issues once i play it back. Thank you !
Did you put the tape in upside down? Try putting the tape in a new housing.
Any tips on how to loosen the screws? Was thinking a few drops of wd-40 but not sure what would happen if it got on the tape
Those screws can be tough! I have a little screwdriver with matching plyers (besides my electric screwdriver) I can grip the screwdriver with the plyers which helps a lot. Good luck and thanks for watching. Hit that subscribe button!
Thanks. I accidentally hit record on a Christmas 1999 VHS-C lost it permanently but still have the tape. July 4th 1997 tape hitthe ground and it wont rewind the white spool is stuck so im going to put one tape in the other case, do you think that will work? Thank you
Yes, it should work. But be careful, the VHS-C has a few moving parts and springs. Make sure that if anything comes out, you put it back together in the exact same way or it won't work. Maybe take a picture or two of the inside once you open it. Also, once you take the screws out, flip it over before you take the case apart so nothing falls out.
Thank you so much! Fixed 4th of July 1997! Took a while cause I had to find a screwdriver that would open those little screws. Got a electronics screw driver at home depot woo
Why not put the tape in a regular sized vhs case while you're at it?
You could if you have one maybe. Not sure. Never tried it.
