- Well, the title sums it up, Noel doing Slide Away during an acoustic set in Chicago in 1998. I'm not sure where exactly in Chicago...sorry. But it's still amazing and Noel needs to bring his acoustic set back!
Also thought I should mention that I did not take this video and I hope it is ok with whomever did, this is NOT my work and I'm not trying to claim it is mine. I just thought it was lovely and it should be shared with other Oasis fans.
This audience had no idea they were experiencing arguably Noel Gallagher’s best live performance of Slide Away. Absolutely epic, a literal masterpiece

This version of a track has shaped me as a man
I was there 25 years ago, in the rafters. I was just singing along with him at 16 years old at the time. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd laid witness to one of the most epic moments in the history of that band & Noel. When I read the comments here, I get goosebumps knowing I was able to see and listening to something so special.
You have no idea how special it is that this whole concert was recorded and I can watch it back with that soundboard recording. I miss those days so much. Even for an American, Oasis was so special.

TAKE ME THERE.... I got tickets to this show for my 16th birthday. I remember praying every night and up to the minute they walked out on stage that they wouldn’t cancel. My prayers were answered and precious Noel sang this song just for me ( or at least it felt that way 🤷🏼♀️). One of THE best nights of my 16 years on earth ❤️

There's something about this one. And there's something about this performance too. I've heard this song at least 500 times, maybe a lot more. I've listened to it locked up in my room all through my adolescence, smoking cigarretes on winter nights with an open window, no lights but the one on the computer screen. I've cried while listening to it so many times I cannot even guess a number.
I used to listen to it and think about this girl that I couldn't have. I was in deep pain, unable to hold her, kiss her, touch her.
After many, many rejections over the years, I sang this song, and this version, to her at a sweet 15 party. A buddy of mine played guitar. I was 13 years old, she was 13 years old. I know we were young, but it all felt very real. She was with someone else at the time (not at the party), but I got through her that night, just as Noel got through every layer of my body and grabbed my soul so many times.
Three years passed and we finally got together. Sadly, there was no happy ending. I guess as Jack Johnson says, waiting on love ain't so easy to do.
However, this song takes me back and so deep very easily. I'm 28 now, and I still cry some times when I hear Noel bite that ''Take me there'' and then release into that sustained note. You know why? Because he really left something there that night. It is almost tangible. It is so sadly hopeful and so clear, so honest, so sensitively strong, the feeling he injected to this one. I cannot fathom such a crappy video (so thankful though) and so many visits without an essence as rich as the one it has.
I love this song, I will always do, and I'm sure that at the end of the road this one will be my deepest cut.
Something similar happens with Don't Go Away's version at this concert, but it's not quite as clear.
The crappiness of the video only serves to enhance the true beauty of this version of the song.

'Slide Away' written by Noel about his stormy relationship with girlfriend Louise Jones, who he described as his soulmate. When they split up in June 1994 Noel said 'I don't think I'll ever get over it'.
Definitely Maybe album was released in August 1994, track 10 is Slide Away.

The lyrics to the song Married with Children were inspired by Noel's girlfriend at the time, Louise Jones. Fed up of hearing her boyfriend playing the guitar day after day, Jones reportedly told Noel that "your music's shite, it keeps me up all night". The line is quoted verbatim in the song. Noel also confessed to taking inspiration from the American sitcom, Married... with Children. "I looked at them two in the show, and looked at us two, and I thought, that's us, that is!

Liam can shake a room and draw attention with his aggressive and growly voice like nobody else can and I thinks he’s great but Noel has a way of bringing out the true meaning of oasis songs and making them into something beautiful

This has to be the best live version of a song performed by it's composer. To me it seems that Noel is not even "at the concert". Seems like he went deep into his memories and just let it flow. I almost feel like a voyeur when listening to it, since this version seems so personal and emotional.

I’m pretty sure that the sound was just paired with someone’s video of the performance. The sound engineer probably recorded the audio.

Ahah, well I can say life is good. While I don't listen to Oasis/Noel nearly as much (probably cause I overplayed the hell out of them) I still absolutely come back to these videos and I am still amazed.

I had this on a burnt CD with all his other great acoustic performances for so many years. It actually got stuck in the cd player of a work truck we drove all over the country for a few years. Whenever we couldn’t pick up any good radio stations, the old adage was, “f*ck it, put on some Noel.” Great memories.

I often think about this, slide away might be the best song Noel wrote. It's impossible to have a conclusive answer but its Maccas favourite , written on a Johnny Marr guitar, provided the tune that holds liams best ever vocal and then this version is just haunting. The last part of it on the glasto 95 version is so euphoric , where noel starts singing slide away and liams on the 'i dont know , i dont care' part and it builds then they unionise with the 'what for' , all of these moments from individual performances originate from one song , surely its the best , surely
