@ felix121984 Great point! However, I have to add a correction. There was another black sitcom in the '70's called "That's My Mama". It started Clifton Davis as "Mama's" son (was Rev. Gregory "Amen"), Theresa Merritt as mama (also Aunt Em in "The Wiz), Teddy Wilson as the postman (also played Sweet Daddy Williams on "Good Times") and Ted Lange as Junior (played Issac on the "Love Boat"). Like most black actors in that era, they were all seasoned Broadway stars. Clifton Davis was especially popular then as a singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, and game show guest. As a songwriter, his biggest hit was "Never Can Say Goodbye". In season 1 the opening credits showed a barber's pole and the theme song was instrumental. Season 2, the closing credits had the best view of a Washington, DC neighborhood ever on a sitcom. I don't know for sure but it looked real to me and not a movie backdrop. I lived in DC as a young child and moved back in my twenties even though I am not a native. The theme song had vocals. The TV series was not very popular in the mainstream even though it was on ABC. I don't remember the competition on those nights. It only lasted about 2 years. As a teenager then, I watched most of the black sitcoms. Plus I had a crush on Clifton Davis 😊😊. The fact that he was in a high profile romance with Melba Moore at the time, made me love him more. She was and still to this day, a favorite entertainer of mine. Other actors who appeared on the show were Jester Hairston, Lynne Moody, Helen Martin, and Joan Pringle (who was married in real life to Teddy Wilson). Lamont Dozier, the great songwriter wrote the theme song for the show. Ironically, the singer who sung the lyrics was not Clifton but I don't remember who he was. The show was not as strong as some of the other shows back then but I liked it. You can catch it on cable on the weekends, the channel I am not sure. Happy hunting!
@@diva70smusic Great call.... I too remember that show and another show called Baby I'm Back on CBS starring Kim Fields, Damon Wilson, Denise Nichols from Room 222. Speaking of Room 222, it was the Black principal who was the star of the series, however, actress Karen Valentine and Denise Nichols overshadowed him.. Also, during this time another Black sitcom premiered that showcased a young Black couple (can't recall the name but it too was on ABC). The 1970s was a good time for Black Hollywood after the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, not nearly as good as Black Hollywood is now, but good enough.. ABC also cast a Black actress (Brenda Skyes) as a regular on Ozzie and Harriet in the 1970s. Actress Lynne Moody appeared on many ABC programs. I remember a lot of Black talent from back in the day.
The role won Sandra an Emmy (only cast mbr too win one) so if anything she shld be grateful...Urkel saved Family Matters n give him n the cast 9 yrs of solid pay + residuals.... Yeah, the MAJOR difference between Jackee Harry and Jaleel White, is that Jackee went on to have another solid, steady and memorable role on "Sister Sister" for six seasons.... And this was after her five seasons on "227"... And Jackee also did several movies.... Jaleel didn't get any major roles after "Family Matters"..

I'm still confused bcuz at first when I seen this was uploaded a month ago and never heard of this show I thought it was new...then at the beginning Al said the show ended 20 years ago and I was like wrong..30 years ago and then the cast laughed when he said that...after the clips of the show, Al said he was wrong and the cast said longer than that.....then all of the sudden I'm seeing 2010 at the corner of the screen...now I'm really confused.....then of course I gotta go to the comments to see what people are saying And to add to this Al asked why don't they make shows like that anymore so I'm thinking again this gotta be recently bcuz they don't make sitcoms like 227 anymore...then again there were no sitcoms in 2010 (all reality bull-issh).... and if this show was recently...yeah I'm sure they would have their mask on and distance themselves...or probably Zoom
I’m tearing up because my mom and my siblings and I use to watch this show and some of them have passed always. I miss them so much. So many great memories with my mom and hearing her laugh. I miss her laugh and smile.

I JUST found this show one night and I LOVE it! Watching it in 2023 as if it just came out!!! 💐💐💐
I love that show rest in peace rose ❤️🙏❤️⛸️🙏
This was one of my faaaavvvooorrrrite shows growing up. It was amazing to see the cast all together again. Al did a wonderful job of making sure that each person was had their moment to shine/be acknowledged 😱🥰 I love that.
Man I love that show. I love all them like my own family 🥰💙
I am still watching. So much humor and family values.
Spectacular Interview...good to see them all...and now we celebrate Regina King on Golden Globes Oscar nominated for her recent works...so they all should be proud of themselves 👏🏾and very proud of her. 💕to them all as i recap shows on youtube lol
This was a joy to watch and see that the cast has so much respect for each other after all these years.
Me and my wife and her parents loved this show. My wife would say the word 'husband' the way Jackée was say it and we'd all crack up. They're all gone now. Father in law 2006, Mother in law 2008, and wife 2019. God bless them all and the cast as well.
Curtis baldwin is one of my good friends i watched this show before i knew him ..congrats. im connected to this show cause my other friend his grandmother was weezy on the Jeffersons and my other friend amil martha gibbs is his grandmother crazyvright ..and how dr dre and deathrow used to be at marthas memory lane on king blv. Real talk martha gibbs is a icon and legend ... btw this is the recording artist phalos mode!!!!
wait this video is old. Im like rose been dead for 10yrs and its been 30yrs since 227 last aired.
Yeah, none of them look like that today... including Al Roker.
Yeah, there's a small card in the left margin saying 2010.
Same
Thanks for clearing that up.
I'm still confused bcuz at first when I seen this was uploaded a month ago and never heard of this show I thought it was new...then at the beginning Al said the show ended 20 years ago and I was like wrong..30 years ago and then the cast laughed when he said that...after the clips of the show, Al said he was wrong and the cast said longer than that.....then all of the sudden I'm seeing 2010 at the corner of the screen...now I'm really confused.....then of course I gotta go to the comments to see what people are saying
And to add to this Al asked why don't they make shows like that anymore so I'm thinking again this gotta be recently bcuz they don't make sitcoms like 227 anymore...then again there were no sitcoms in 2010 (all reality bull-issh).... and if this show was recently...yeah I'm sure they would have their mask on and distance themselves...or probably Zoom
One of my top five sitcoms.
Soon to be 58, I LOVED 227! ❤️Watched it weekly like clockwork... AND the reruns too!!👍🏾🥰👍🏾
They all look beautiful!!
R . I. P. to the other cast members who are no longer w/ us !!!!!
I’m tearing up because my mom and my siblings and I use to watch this show and some of them have passed always. I miss them so much. So many great memories with my mom and hearing her laugh. I miss her laugh and smile.
We need to treasure our sweet Marla Gibbs before something happens
AGREED
I couldn't agree more! I absolutely LOVE her!!! She reminds me soooo much of my mother! Just a dynamic woman!!!! ✊🏾
They still have chemistry!
Greetings from Canada. I still reminisce on this show to this day. I and I hope to see you all in another film again.
God blessings to the 227 family.
I can't stop laughing at Jackee threatening to cut Al. LOLOLOL
Used to love me some Jackee. She and Peg Bundy were my go to fantasies as a teenage kid
