Our sister unit had the last US Army operational Sky Cranes. They were transitioned to Chinooks in ‘92-‘93.

A note on the rotor blades indicators. Sikorsky used them quite a bit. US Army H-60's with legacy narrow chord blades have those. I can't speak for the Tarhee but on a 60, they appear as yellow and white stripes when the spar pressure is acceptable. When the pressure drops below range the yellow switches to red. Wide chord blades still have a nitrogen filled spar but engineers eliminated the indicator.

If all else fails you could motorise it and use it as a ceiling fan!!. Enjoy your build Nigel. All the best. 😉

You definitely win the cream filled donut with sprinkles for being the first to review that I found Nigel. Pop open a beer have a donut and bask in the glow of being first. Absolutely beautiful molding. I do believe there will be one of these in my future. Maybe Red Fox will do a cockpit kit for this one.

Nice to see one gets plenty of building time with all the small details to be added. A very nicely built M113 personal carrier slung under for a load would be fun!

1/35 scale. Man, how many diorama ideas will be fullfilled. Realy want one, but my skill level is not there yet.

Just checked out ICM's own YT video 'build' on this, and their colours are indeed acrylic, as you suspected, Nigel.

I still can't hardy believe it's real. A mass produced kit no less. Well relatively, I'll be fortunate to get one for sure. Looking forward to this build series Cheers

Main rotor blades Bim indicator which you mention about cracking of leading edge. A good blade the indicator is white, failed or cracked blade the indicator turns black.

I'm glad you finally got it. One nice thing about this kit. It sure won't be difficult to find space to display this little guy. 🤠

Great thing about large scale kits is having all that gorgeous detail to show off. Those bazillion raised rivets will certainly add some dimension to the build. Thanks for your efforts in getting the kit so quickly.

Thanks for the review. I remember as a young teen going with my grandfather to watch a sky crane put the top pieces on Toronto’s CN tower.

ICM Paints are Acrylic. They are 12ml flip-top pots, pretty cheap, brushable, but a bit thinner than Vallejo Model Colour Range. I have a couple of sets, but have yet to use them. Rotor leak indicators are generally a glass dome with a little white striped pot inside with a piston with black & White stripes. When the piston moves because of a leak, the white stripes no longer align and the black stripes become visible, making it easily visible from the ground. These were also used on the Westland Wessex, (another Sikorsky of course), and were known as BIM (Blade Inspection Method) Indicators.
